back pain

Posted: Jun 25, 2011

My low back pain has become more and more limiting over the past couple of years. I sit with a heating pad on my back all day. Ibuprofen helps once in a while, but I don't want to take meds on a routine basis. What do you do to relieve your back pain?

back pain - what I do

I see a chiropractor the moment it starts. I had acupuncture years ago and now just a quick move by the chiropractor will fix me right up. I would also put your foot not used for the foot pedal up on something to take the pressure off. Make sure you get up and move every couple of hours. Lay on your back and bend your knees one at a time and bring as close to your chest as you can and hold. Do you have a good chair with lumbar support if you are sitting as long as we do? The chair made all the difference for me.

do not use the heating pad continuously - sweetgirlsmom

Constant use of a heating pad results in congestion which causes inflammation which causes pain. Use a heating pad for only 15 minutes at a time and not more than once every 2 hours. That increases the blood flow which relieves pain and by the end of the day the pain relief is greater than if you use the heating pad continuously.

This is from a chiropractor who spoke at an AAMT meeting years ago.

I took your advice about not using the heating pad constantly. In fact, I haven't used it at all in 5 days. My pain is still there but not nearly as bad. I wanted to THANK YOU for posting because I'd still be suffering quite a bit were it not for your suggestion.

my experience with back pain, chiropractor - mt

Felt something 'slip' when reaching up and pulling down the hatch of my Pathfinder with 3 grocery bags hanging from each arm - smart, huh? Whatever slipped sent a horrible pain from my lumbar area down the front of my left leg with a little surface skin numbness.

I could not move, felt like when a stiff neck blocks your head from turning. I got out the heating pad and gave that some time, to no avail. Finally calling a chiropractor, I was advised to treat with alternating hot/cold every 15 - 20 minutes until I could get to his office - luckily - later that afternoon and right up the street.

I have to admit, getting up and around to get to his office helped. I was able to walk in...not crawl.

I underwent a series of accupuncture treatments over the next couple of weeks, and, not sure what it is called, but he wired the needles at key points to an electrostimulator running current through the 'pins' right to the source.

It felt better with the hot/cold packs, and resolved completely with the treatments. No drugs, no surgery, no pain blocks.

You can always try the Foot Pedal Stand that allows you to transcribe while reclined in your recliner. It will take the pressure off of your back. Here is the link www.ddlassistivedevices.com.

It's around my left shoulder blade and goes into my chest.  I've done the heat and ice, hot bath, Advil, Flexeril, and sleeping in different beds in the house.  Nothing is working and it is literally killing me. Unfortunately I work for a company with very little work so I can't just up and go to the doctor.  Sitting here and working is just too hard when all I want to do is lay down and try to sleep. ...

Hey, m'lovely MT sisters, I suspect I have bursitis in my right shoulder.  It started as pain in my right arm biceps area and I had an odd rash in the area, so to be honest I was afraid it might have been shingles (never had them, but heard they're very painful). Ladies, it's been about 6 weeks and it's still freakling painful, but I believe I was wrong on precisely where the pain was originating.  I believe it's emanating at my right shoulder joint.  I&# ...

Old MT/QA With PainMay 13, 2010
I have been an MT/QA for 24 years.  I have fibromyalgia, arthritis, have had bilateral carpal tunnel release, and I have cervical impingement.  I tried a new product called Evolv enhanced water beverage which has a formula called Archaea Active.  It claims to "promote a healthy inflammatory response."  Honestly, I was skeptical about it, but I am here to testify that this is truly a Godsend!!  It was explained to me that it increases oxygen at the cellular level and ...

Do you ever wonder why the gas prices are up and down?  There is still about the same amount of gas out there (although it is a finite resouce that is going away) and we are still using about the same, more or less, with our more efficient vehicles. The price fluctuates because the Wall Street traders can make it fluctuate.  They do this so they can make money.  In 2008, (Bush Administration, by the way) the prices were over $4.00 a gallon.  The Obama administratio ...

Pain In ShinsJun 02, 2011
Hi.  I actually have a health question related to transcribing!  I've transcribed for over 25 years and have had no problems other than tight neck and shoulders; no hand, wrist or arm pain.  Recently my company changed from cassettes to digital, so I'm using a sllightly different type of food pedal.  I can't believe this would make a difference, but I don't know what else could cause this problem ... shin pain.  Firs ...

Inner Ankle PainJun 13, 2013
Hi all, For the last 2 years or so I have been suffering from right inner ankle pain.  It has progressively gotten more and more painful.  I have had x-rays and it shows nothing is wrong.  I am pretty sure it's has to be posterior tibialis tendinitis, but now it's starting on the left ankle.  When I rotate my right ankle in a circle, I can feel a popping sensation that doesn't really feel like it's bone, but it is so terribly sore.  I wondered if may ...
