Indiana Michigan Power has requested permission from the state to raise overall electric rates 14 percent due to the environmental mandates placed by the EPA.
"All electric utility providers, including I&M, are facing “a multitude of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations” that include rules to cut emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides as well as rules to control coal ash handling and disposal, and to regulate water usage and discharge from power plants."
Wouldn't be surprised if more companies start raising their prices too. Just another example of how over regulation hurts all of us because it puts strains on companies who then pass that extra cost to consumers. Not the most brilliant idea especially since most Americans are hurting right now with job loss, grocery prices going up, gas prices up, and the economy sucking in general. So much for looking out for the middle class and the lower class. Higher electric bills certainly won't help us.
