Looking for opinons, I have had left-sided low back pain SM

Posted: Oct 19, 2009

I've had it off and on for the last three or four months.  He it is a deep ache on the left side.  It will last for a few days and then go away.  Then will return in a few weeks.  The pain is getting worse with each episode.  I've wondered about kidney stones, but no one in my family has every had kidney stones which may or may not mean anything.  I've always wondered about ovarian issues such as a cyst or something.  But then I worry about ovarian cancer.  I've made an doctor's appointment for this Friday because I get paid and can pay my co-pay then, but the pain is extreme enough to make me consider going to the ER which I NEVER do for myself.  My kids, yeah, but me, I have to be at deaths door before I consider even going to an ER.  So obviously the pain is getting to me.  Motrin takes the edge off, but I still have pain.  I won't take anything stronger because I'm not a fan of feeling dopey unless I'm headed to bed for 12 hours.

Anyway, thanks for listening to me whine!  I just want someone to feel sorry for me.  ;)

I'm happy you are going to see your doctor. It could be any of the things you mentioned, or maybe even a UTI-type issue, although you didn't mention any symptoms of that. Anyway, I'm no doctor, and I'm sure you have as much, or more, knowledge than me. I hope you feel better soon :).

muscular in nature? I have found it very difficult to tell when low back pain is internal or muscular.

Palpate your muscles all around that area (as the pain is often referred from a spot a little ways away) to see if it is in your muscles. Often slight variations in sitting postions (and such) will cause trigger points in the muscles.

If you find tender spots, keep massaging or pressing the areas several times a day for a few days and see if you can see a difference. If it goes away, keep doing it to see if it keeps it away.

Obviously, also go to the doc if you feel you should but, hopefully, it is just your muscles. : )

I get that once in a while. Is it the foot/leg you hit the pedal with? Switch legs. You may be so p.o.'d about your job you're hitting too hard, pulls the back muscles.

GO TO THE DOCTOR! sm - MT TOO LONG

You are not a doctor and neither is anyone here. You have said it yourself, go to the doctor or go to the ER. Good grief.

Extreme Fatigue, Tingling In Back, Back Pain Mar 05, 2013
I know it is the most common complaint doctors hear - and for years I have had the stressed-tired-overworked fatigue - I know how that one feels.  But this has been going on a couple of months.  I am bone tired even after I sleep a lot.  My blood work showed I am hypothyroid so I started on medicine and also some supplements for that.  But nothing seems to be helping.  I have pain/fatigue across the area of my back right at the braline.  My arms and neck feel heavy. ...

Back Pain......severeFeb 13, 2012
Any suggestions for severe higher back pain? It's around my left shoulder blade and goes into my chest.  I've done the heat and ice, hot bath, Advil, Flexeril, and sleeping in different beds in the house.  Nothing is working and it is literally killing me. Unfortunately I work for a company with very little work so I can't just up and go to the doctor.  Sitting here and working is just too hard when all I want to do is lay down and try to sleep. ...

Severe Left Shoulder/upper Arm PainNov 13, 2012
anyone else has heard of or perhaps had, needing some input. I know we are not doctors but we hear and type so much that someone might have heard of similar. This past weekend I went to the ER with left shoulder/left upper arm pain. This pain has now been here 2 weeks. No arthritis, nothing else diagnosed except have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the past although this is 1 spot. I had EKGs, x-rays, have been given Flexeril, anti-inflammatories, Medrol Dose-Pak, pain pills, have been to P ...

OMG!  I am so glad to find you guys.  I have been doing this for 7 years now, started at Spheris then jumped just before the sale (out of the frying pan, as it were) and am now at MM.  No work, have wondered about the rest of the accounts.  Whatever I have said about this company has probably already been said..... Even though I'm not working much, it is killing my back.  I bought a $300 chair (ouch) to be able to tolerate it, but I am in screaming pain whenever I ...

One-sided RelationshipsOct 30, 2011
My sister does not return my texts often times, does not initiate texting, acknowledge cards, gifts nor do her kids. Here is a brief backstory: My mom gave my sister up for adoption, and kept me. I'm 39, my sister is 40, she is about a year and a half older than me. She contacted my (our) mother out of the blue about 8 years ago via letter. A year after receiving that letter we went to meet her and her kids (my neice and nephew). We have a lot of differences, however, I have alway ...

Hey, m'lovely MT sisters, I suspect I have bursitis in my right shoulder.  It started as pain in my right arm biceps area and I had an odd rash in the area, so to be honest I was afraid it might have been shingles (never had them, but heard they're very painful). Ladies, it's been about 6 weeks and it's still freakling painful, but I believe I was wrong on precisely where the pain was originating.  I believe it's emanating at my right shoulder joint.  I&# ...

Old MT/QA With PainMay 13, 2010
I have been an MT/QA for 24 years.  I have fibromyalgia, arthritis, have had bilateral carpal tunnel release, and I have cervical impingement.  I tried a new product called Evolv enhanced water beverage which has a formula called Archaea Active.  It claims to "promote a healthy inflammatory response."  Honestly, I was skeptical about it, but I am here to testify that this is truly a Godsend!!  It was explained to me that it increases oxygen at the cellular level and ...

Leg PainDec 05, 2013

Do you ever wonder why the gas prices are up and down?  There is still about the same amount of gas out there (although it is a finite resouce that is going away) and we are still using about the same, more or less, with our more efficient vehicles. The price fluctuates because the Wall Street traders can make it fluctuate.  They do this so they can make money.  In 2008, (Bush Administration, by the way) the prices were over $4.00 a gallon.  The Obama administratio ...

Pain In ShinsJun 02, 2011
Hi.  I actually have a health question related to transcribing!  I've transcribed for over 25 years and have had no problems other than tight neck and shoulders; no hand, wrist or arm pain.  Recently my company changed from cassettes to digital, so I'm using a sllightly different type of food pedal.  I can't believe this would make a difference, but I don't know what else could cause this problem ... shin pain.  Firs ...
