Pain at the pump

Posted: Mar 1, 2012

Do you ever wonder why the gas prices are up and down?  There is still about the same amount of gas out there (although it is a finite resouce that is going away) and we are still using about the same, more or less, with our more efficient vehicles.

The price fluctuates because the Wall Street traders can make it fluctuate.  They do this so they can make money.  In 2008, (Bush Administration, by the way) the prices were over $4.00 a gallon.  The Obama administration and the Congress passed a law called the Dodd-Frank Law that would have PUT AN END TO THE SPECULATION.  So why is it still happening?

The reason we are still having the same problems as in 2008 is because the Wall Streeters like it that way.  It is still happening because the Wall Street traders and Big Banks, have hired super lawyers and lobbyists that are doing everything they can to stop the implementation of the Obama administration's Dodd-Frank legislation.  The Republicans have blocked Obama's appointments and pulled every shennanigan they can to hold this up.  In the meantime, you are paying more at the pump so people like the Koch brothers and banks like JP Morgan can get even richer.

I am extremely angry this morning becasue I just received an advertisement from a Wall Street firm saying how everything that is holding up Wall Street can be blamed on Obama.  Well, in my view, if Wall Street wants to blame Obama, I am FOR Obama and all the legislators who will support him by putting some teeth into the Dodd-Frank regulations.   Just saying.

Adjusted for inflation - gas prices

[ In Reply To ..]
In 1981, a gallon of gas that cost $1.35 would be the equivalent of $3.37 in inflation adjusted terms for January 2012 dollars.

Another big problem is that the wages have not gone up. We need to restore the rights of the working people, not just the rich who manipulate us.

I wonder what a house cost in 1981 versus at the height of the housing bubble? No wonder we feel like we are sinking into an abyss. Hopefully with Obama's policies and trying to bring back the jobs from overseas and put a stop to the Wall Street skimming, we will once again become the America we were prior to Reagan.

Paying taxes - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
This post is especially to the people who complain about paying taxes, any taxes.

Do you support the subsidies to the oil companies that are paid with the taxes we pay?

President Obama’s fiscal year 2013 budget plan AGAIN calls for ending roughly $40 billion in tax incentives over a decade.

Will the Republicans support it in an election year? Or will they just continue their war on contraception?

Repubs and gas prices - Repubs plan

[ In Reply To ..]
For those so uninformed on here: Repubs presented a plan by which taxes on oil companies were redistributed DIRECTLY TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC since the oil comes from land Americans own, maintain and pay taxes on. Dems shot it down, refused to consider any funds going directly to any Americans. A similar plan worked in Alaska and taxpayers get a check sent directly to them. Good idea, but Dems wanted no money going to any Americans...only wanted money sent to Washington. Dems have no interest in the common man.

I sure don't agree with these subsidies. - sm

It looks like the Pubs have taken contraception as their "issue" and if Santorum were to win, just imagine all the laws that would be generated AGAINST women's health.

I've personally had experience with the Catholic Church, a bad one, where they interfered with MY personal life when I'm not even Catholic. I have the right to my freedom of religion, as well, but if Santorum wins, that freedom may disappear when he pushes his religion down our throats.

For the first time since 1949, we are actually EXPORTING oil due to the enormous amount of oil that America is just sitting on. Thanks, President Obama.

Gas prices UP to get Obama OUT - wheres_my_job

[ In Reply To ..]
They totally completely want Obama (who in my opinion is WAY too Wall Street friendly!!!!! He is totally pro-Wall Street in my opinion!!!!) out of office. So manipulate gas prices, so the ordinary American (I'll try not to cast aspersions and swear) will get mad at Obama, blame him for higher gas prices, and vote Republican ('cause they WUVS little unborn babies!!!)

PART OF IT may be what's going on in Syria and with Iran - but only PART. The rest of it is, they want Obama, who is only mildly liberal in my opinion!, OUT of the Oval Office. Cause he's not conservative enough (in their minds - have any of them gone to jail, besides Madoff, and maybe a few others? No, I didn't think so) (I'd put Cheney, Bush and Karl Rove in jail, if I was prez).

High gas prices - Is what OBAMA WANTS

[ In Reply To ..]
People need to get up from the altar of Obama and actually pay attention to what OBAMA HIMSELF HAS SAID HE WANTED for energy. Try watching his Sect. of Energy Steven Chu (02/28/2012), who is enacting Obama policy at Obama's direction, and handpicked by Obama. They want gas prices to go higher (their words) and Obama admin. will not do anything to lower them (their words). I guess even when it comes directly out of their own mouths, libs, with their blind devotion, will still not believe Obama; they hang onto their idea of Obama the god...how sad.

gas prices going up while Bush was in office? Did Wall Street like the dems then? I think you're forgetting, too, that Wall Street has given Obama more campaign money than any other candidate, republican or democrat.

The truth is painful to - the Libs

[ In Reply To ..]
Obama bought and paid for by many groups, special interest, lobbyists. Libs cannot stand any truth, especially when it comes to Obama. Just want to blame Bush for everything; no one buying it.

Have no fear, I can explain - wheres_my_job

[ In Reply To ..]
gas prices went up because everyone got some kind of check - I think it was 300 or 400 dollars...from your income tax...from Bush and Co. - I found it very interesting, how THAT summer, boom! gas prices went up, and soaked up every #$!^&* penny of that check we got from the Bushies.

There, I explained the price going up. Next question.
I'm not getting the connection. - Zville MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Are you talking about the extra check that went to those on SS? I don't see how that would make prices go up.

Please, let's not be snarky - I'm really trying to understand where you're coming from.
to Zville - Conservative
[ In Reply To ..]
You are right. That check had nothing to do with gas prices. It was a spin on trying to put the blame of 2012 gas prices under Obama on something that occurred more than 4 years ago and had nothing to do with gas. As we all know, gas went up under Bush and it went down. Not so with Obama; just keeps going up and is expected to hit $ 5.00 by end of March. In my area, we are already at $ 4.25 at many stations.
Yours is a completely senseless post - How about the following
[ In Reply To ..]
Obama cuts back all off shore drilling, but allows China and Cuba access.
Obama says he is going to allow drilling, but refuses to allow permits.
Obama cancels permits approved by Bush, thereby driving up the price.
Obama cancels 97% of the areas where drilling was already allowed.
Obama gives Brazilian oil drilling company several mill while screwing Americans.
Obama sends Sect of Energy out to promote "increase" in gas prices.
Obama lies about increase in oil production coming from Obama. Increase came directly from permits issued under Bush and Clinton.

So much for those suffering from "Bush Derangment Syndrome". Try reading something besides a comic book.

Next question?

I smell conspiracy theory - or is it the litter box - what if

[ In Reply To ..]
So you think someone is manipulating the gas prices just because they want Obama out of office? Really? I can hear the Major Tom song playing in the background...earth below us, drifting, falling... LOL

Seriously I do have to say that is the funniest thing I've read here today. That conspiracy also with he's only mildly liberal. Always good to start the weekend with a smile.

Wall Street right AGAIN - It is Obama

[ In Reply To ..]
Secretary Chu (Obama's appointed energy guy) testified at Congressional hearings on 02/28/2012) that adminsitration does NOT want gas prices to drop. They want to keep them high and will do nothing to decrease them. Watch the whole hearing; it is Obama's policy Chu is enacting.

BTW, udner Bush, gas hit $ 4.00 and dopped. Gas was approximately $1.86 when Obama took office. Under Obama, gas keeps RISING, and well over $4.00 in many places.

For Dodd-Frank, if you understood what that bill actually was (read it, I did), you would want it repealed immediately. This bill has nothing to do with regulation and control other than controlling Americans. They can "sweep" your bank account any time they want, without your knowledge or permission to see how you spend your money - what business is it of theirs? Dodd-Frank, if fully enacted, will make it almost impossible to get a mortgage; some banks will be forced to require significant down payments, with a substantial increase in interest on the mortgage.

Dodd-Frank never addressed the real problems, Barney Frank (D), Chris Dodd(D) who both should be jailed for what they did. They got a pass under Pelosi (D) and Reid (D). It also gives complete, total freedom to Fannie and Freddie WITH NO REGULATIONS AND WITH ENDLESS TAXPAYER MONEY. Just saying.

energy savings - goldie

[ In Reply To ..]
But if we just keep our tires properly inflated and our cars tuned up, we would be much better off don't cha know.

"There are things that you can do individually though to save energy,"
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, said. "Making sure your tires are properly inflated, simple thing, but we could save all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling, if everybody was just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups. You could actually save just as much."
