This morning I woke up suddenly with severe dizziness

Posted: Jan 6, 2010

like the room was spinning out of control and I could not stop it.  That lasted about 1 minute I think followed by terrible nausea.  I thought I would throw up but didn't.  Then it kind of subsided over the next couple hours, and now at the end of day I feel okay but still a little nauseous.  Wow - what was THAT????  I've never had that experience before and I hope to never again!  I started looking online but there are so many things that could cause this....one thing that did catch my eye is that it was a symptom of periomenopause.  I am 45 so I guess that could make sense.  Great!!!  I could stand night sweats and crankiness or whatever, but if THIS is what I have to deal with, I'll never survive....it was truly horrible.  I'm afraid to go to sleep thinking I'll wake suddenly again with that horrible dizziness and nausea.  I was really scared when it was happening, too.  I was actually thinking I was going to have to ask my teenage son to drive me to the ER....but then the worst of it was over ......Has anyone experienced this?  Is this really a symptom of periomenopause?  TIA

DIAGNOSES - ALICE

I'm sorry you experienced all that. Obviously, if it continues, get it checked out. It could be something as simple as an inner ear problem or transient low blood sugar, low blood pressure, a sinus condition, dehydration, side effect of a medication.

I had a similar experience the morning after taking my first and last dose of metoprolol.

Take care of yourself.

Thanks for your reply..... - Kiki

It didn't happen again the next morning, thankfully. Thanks for your kind words. :)

it could be sleep apnea - ggmt

I had the very same thing happen to me one night. Eventually was diagnosed with PCOS (and associated glucose & hormonal issues) and sleep apnea. Ask your doctor, good luck

Taking amitriptyline can cause drops in blood pressure which can also cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Also, if you are on a high blood pressure medication, the amitriptyline combines with the BP medication can cause blood pressure to drop real low. Since I can't come off the amitriptyline, my doctor is reducing my BP medicine slowly. He would prefer to leave me on it, however, I can't function with a BP of 95/63.

Sounds like you're too young for them but had a hard time convincing how dizzy they made me. Dizzy in bed, horrible feeling. You may need an otorhinolaryngologist to rule out middle ear problems. Terrible way to feel.

Interesting........I'm not on BP meds, in fact, my - Kiki

BP usually runs pretty low, normally in the 100/60 range. I consider myself fairly healthy, so I was thinking it was a periomenopausal thing going on.

Thanks for your reply, and take care of yourself......

dizziness - - vertigo

I once had a couple episodes of extreme room spinning - very uncharacteristic for me - and was treated with prn doses of meclizine for vertigo.

It was extremely helpful. Good luck to you!

to the point of vomiting. We did actually take him to the ER the first time it happened, it was such a sudden onset, just like yours. I would certainly talk to your doctor about it to be certain anything more serious is ruled out, but it sounds a lot like hubby's vertigo problem. Just comes on every once in a blue moon. They gave him meclizine for his, but does not really help him a whole lot...it just has to kind of wear off really. Hopefully it is something simple and you will feel better quickly!!

The Country Woke Up, All Of ItNov 07, 2009
Call them liberals, call them progressives. Many fell asleep at the switch and the result was G. W. Bush. That caused us to wake back up, though, and take the country back. The radical conservatives slept through the Bush years and only woke up when Obama was elected. But in their sleep, they heard things. And when they awoke, they parrotted those things that they had heard. Not correctly, but what do parrots know? The left objected to loss of our civil rights through the wiretapping and data ...

OK, Something That My DH Does Is SuddenlyNov 23, 2010
I don't know how to put this delicately, so I'm just gonna throw it out there...lately, it seems that my DH only touches me in 3 places...YES, those 3 places; 2 boobs and the v-jayjay! It's really REALLY getting on my nerves but I don't know how to say nicely, "Hey, quit groping me all the time!" I did mention that I feel like he only touches me "there" but he naturally said that wasn't true. It irritates me when we are on the couch together watching TV and he has his ha ...

Any suggestions for severe higher back pain? It's around my left shoulder blade and goes into my chest.  I've done the heat and ice, hot bath, Advil, Flexeril, and sleeping in different beds in the house.  Nothing is working and it is literally killing me. Unfortunately I work for a company with very little work so I can't just up and go to the doctor.  Sitting here and working is just too hard when all I want to do is lay down and try to sleep. ...

This past week she said was sick, visited her doctor with chest tightness. I asked if she had ever had asthma. CTS And Severe Hand Pain On Awakening (sm)Dec 10, 2013
I've had severe CTS, mostly in the right hand for 20+ years.  In recent weeks I have been waking up with severe hand pain, mostly in the middle, ring and little finger so bad I can barely make a fist.  After getting up and moving around the pain subsides.   I haven't had the pain before and wonder if this is the CTS or something else.  I do mostly editing but it seems to bother me after doing a bunch of transcriptions the day before.  ...

Jobs Report Suddenly AccurateMar 11, 2017
All during his campaign Donald Trump denied the truth of job reports and unemployment statistics.  Now that there is one that is favorable to him, he says it is accurate.  It would be funny if it weren't so sad.  I must say he is taking lying to an entirely new level.  How can Trump supporters believe anything he says? ...

What's Your Morning MO?Feb 23, 2010
I'm just curious about how many of us working at home have the same routine. I get up in the morning and immediately heat up bottled water for coffee (I use a French press which makes a really perfect cup of coffee), then hop in the shower.  After that, I make my coffee and drink it while taking about 10 minutes to put on my mineral makeup (so much faster than the other kind of makeup), eyeliner, lip liner and lip gloss.  I then blow dry my hair, get dressed, make a second cup of ...

that union members in WI are passing around a flyer with names of businesses who supposedly contributed to Walker and calling for a boycott of those businesses.  My problem with this is that employers are the ones who hire employees who pay taxes who fund unions.  Isn't that kinda like shooting themselves in the foot?  Plus, do teachers not realize that some of the businesses they want to boycott may employ a parent of one of their students...but they are doing all this for t ...

My Son Is Nauseous Every Morning.Aug 23, 2011
My son is almost 18 and is a senior in high school.  This started back in June.  He just started back to school yesterday and it is breaking my heart seeing him ill every morning especially since now he is in school again.  No matter what time he gets up, he feels sick to his stomach.  He usually starts to feel better around noon. I drove him to school yesterday and he was gagging in the car.  I expected him to call me during the day, but he didn't.  When he g ...

Obama didn't get his way since the important sequester meeting was only about 1 HOUR LONG.  Yes, he really is looking out for the people -- NOT-- or else they'd still be meeting and negotiating.  Sequester stands. He's not "wasting any more time" (my words, not his) since the sequester was "just dumb and arbitrary" (his words, not mine).  So, Mr. President, if it's so dumb, why did you suggest it in the first place?????
