woke up with ringing in my left ear

I feel like I have a bubble in my ear; hot shower did not help and the doctors\' voices sound muffled in my left ear (the voices in my head are loud and clear though - lol, just kidding). I am hoping this is only a temporary thing. Had no such problem yesterday.

I get this every spring and fall. It's not an infection and mine is due to the allergy season. Really no need for antibiotics, just have to wait it out. Here's my trick for relieving the pressure and fluid buildup that I found last year. Do this several times a day. Tap your forehead above your eyebrows for 45-60 seconds. Then starting at bridge of nose stroke sides of nose (top to bottom) 8-10 times. Then firmly stroke area right in front of ear canal 8-10 times. Then stroke behind ear lobe 8-10 times. Stroking and tapping must be done with a firm touch. The tapping loosens any congestion in frontal sinsues and the stroking relieves pressure. This has really helped me. At times I have a really hard time hearing dictation when my ears are stopped up. Hope this helps. PS The tapping also helps a sinus headache.

That happened to me twice last year when I had a sinus/middle ear infection. My hearing was muffled in both ears for several days and then I had a lot of painful popping when it started to clear up. You should get it checked out.

if it is painful, see a doctor as probably an ear infection but if not pain, probably fluid behind the ear. You can try a decongestant, as that will dry up the fluid. My son had this recently and they also gave him a nasal spray and this really helped, but he had Flonase (a prescription) but if you have any prescription nasal spray for allergies, you can use this. It will probably clear up in a couple of days. If it does not, then definitely see a doctor.

I have had constant ringing in my ears for over two years now and it is really annoying. Sometimes it gets louder and is painful but never lasts long enough at the painful level to cause me much problems, but I do sympathise with you!

if you do do you have any information on this you will share with me. For the past year or 2 I have had this terrible constant ringing. It is most aggravating because it never goes away and it makes it hard to go to sleep. I have been a transcriptionist for 40 years and thinking it must the abuse my ears have gone through over this time. If there is OTC medication, herbs, anything that might help. TIA:) ...

As I see it, one problem on this board is citing acurate sources. It's really not our fault as informed voters. It's the fault of the media - radio, TV, internet, newspapers, etc. For example, if a poster here wants to discuss "Fast and Furious," the only sources are going to be right-leaning sources (RLS), since the left-leaning sources (LLS) are not covering the story.
