What can I do for severe knee pain and I cannot walk?

If it's arthritis, maybe a cortisone injection would help, or lots of aspirin. Did you injure it? What kind of pain -- burning? sharp? achy? etc. What does your doctor say?

No injury. Doctor says it is arthritis. He has not recommended injections yet, but maybe an MRI. No cause, it came on suddenly and is severe. I am taking Vicidin and Tramadol.

I need to have total knee replacement as I have osteoarthritis of the joint and bone on bone through an MRI that was performed
How about hotpacks? - sm

I heat up one of those flax-filled or rice-filled bags in the microwave and place it on my knees when sitting. Seems to help. All the best to you.
What causes pain? (sm) - Lena

Flexion? Extension? Flexion with weight on the joint? I had a doc tell me I had arthritis of the knee for what I knew was not arthritis. Extremely sharp shooting pains when standing that were incapacitating. Never did get a good diagnosis but it went away. What activity causes the pain?

I suddenly had an onset of knee pain and could barely walk. I walk a lot, at least a mile every day, and had never experienced any sort of knee pain so this was puzzling to me. I thought maybe with my job it was just too much sitting and keeping my knees in a flexed position. I changed my work station to where I now stand (I have a chair to sit if I get too tired) and all my knee pain went away. It took awhile to adjust but now I will never "sit and type" again. This could be your problem.

I had knee pain that came on suddenly without having had an injury. I had worn a new pair of shoes that changed my gait slightly. Turns out my patella did not track properly because the muscles were unbalanced by 8 years of figure skating. I had the tendons trimmed (lateral release). Lack of pain was within a week, but it took 18 months to get full strength and stability back. Probably would have been faster with physio.
Prior to that surgery, I had also been treated for arthritis, general inflammation, and given orthotics to adjust my gait. None of those things worked for me. A cortisone shot made it worse for three days with no benefit.
What I discovered is that the diagnosis will depend on the specialist. A rheumatologist will say arthritis; a podiatrist will say pronation; and an orthopedic surgeon will give cortisone or surgery. I had to keep pushing for a new diagnosis until I got relief.

Back Pain......severeFeb 13, 2012Any suggestions for severe higher back pain? It's around my left shoulder blade and goes into my chest. Unfortunately I work for a company with very little work so I can't just up and go to the doctor. Sitting here and working is just too hard when all I want to do is lay down and try to sleep. ...

CTS And Severe Hand Pain On Awakening (sm)Dec 10, 2013I've had severe CTS, mostly in the right hand for 20+ years. In recent weeks I have been waking up with severe hand pain, mostly in the middle, ring and little finger so bad I can barely make a fist. After getting up and moving around the pain subsides. Knee PainJun 20, 2013Have been told by orthopod that I have bone-on-bone in my right knee. He suggested surgery and gave me Tramadol for the pain. Surgery is not an option financially at this time. I have been losing weight in order to take some of the pressure off. I cannot take the Tramadol and work because it makes me sleepy. Cannot take NSAIDs because of the GI side effects.
Any suggestions on how to deal?

Knee InjectionsOct 21, 2009Have you ever had Synvisc, Euflexxa, Hyalgan, or Supartz injections? Did they help? I've Googled it and have read yays and nays. My doctor suggested I try a series of Euflexxa. I've had many cortisone shots, but my doctor said cortisone actually makes the cartilage weaker (and I have thinning cartilage), so he doesn't want to do anymore of those, which I hate because they are like a miracle cure! (at least for a few weeks to a couple of months). Thank ...

Knee ProblemsDec 11, 2012First let me start by saying that I have had two arthroscopies on my right knee and one on my left for basically worn out cartilage and some "fraying" around the edges of the knee cartilage, but never an outright tear (according to MRI studies all three times). My knee problems have always started out first with pain, achy-type feeling, stiffness, and a tight band-like feeling around my knee, sometimes hurting on the outer back of my knee (I know I have a Baker's cyst in both knees, b ...
Knee ArthroscopyFeb 12, 2013I had a knee arthroscopy February 1. I've had arthroscopic surgery before, but these incisions look different this time. There are two incisions about mid-knee, right and left sides of knee, that look like typical sutures tied with a knot, but below these two are smaller incisions with what appears to be a strand of suture running lengthwise across the incisions. Has anyone ever seen or heard about an arthroscopic surgery with sutures like this?

Please Pray For My KneeNov 30, 2016Two years ago, I tore my medial meniscus and was thankfully able to heal in a few months by using crutches and participating in physical therapy. On Thanksgiving, I hurt my knee again. There was no precipitating factor other than just walking inside the house. What is concerning is that I am now having pain even when not putting any pressure on my leg. Please pray that this heals. My insurance does not pay for specialists (like an orthopedist) or any imaging studies ...
Total Knee ReplacementJan 10, 2013I had a total knee replacement thinking I would be better by now and I think I made matters worse. I never sleep through the night. Knee Swollen, Tight, PainfulOct 18, 2009Have been having trouble with my knee since about spring of this year. I had a knee scope ten years ago for some torn cartilage, and the knee did great for the ten years following, but flared up this past spring. It gets a very tight and full feeling with a big bulge in the back of the knee, and I keep telling the doctor I believe it is a Baker's cyst, but he doesn't suggest anything for it.
