I would not have opened the post. Good morning. Thanks.

What's horrific? Bush 7 minutes, Chris Stevens - being brought to hospital after 7 hours.

Yes, someone waiting for help that long and then being - taken to hospital is bad, I agree.(sm)

It's best that we keep our eyes open to this sort of thing, however. It helps us to see the hypocrisy.

I believe the point here....sm - Old Woman

was that Obama took 7 hours to respond to the Benghazi situation. Had he deployed the forces that were within about 2 hours flying time, this situation might not have escalated to the point that it did. He made a decision to do nothing when he could have done something. While news now states this is a picture of Mr. Stevens being taken to a hospital, had Obama acted within 7 minutes of hearing of this, Chris Stevens and the others might still be alive.
Thanks, OW. That was what I meant. Maybe I was not clear. - OP

what I think about is when he was told no help was coming. He originally thought there was. Then to be told no. I think how he must have felt being abandoned by the country he was serving, and on top of that the sheer terror he must have felt. It makes me feel sick to my stomach.
It was logistically impossible, probably because of lack - of funds

It costs money to make these kind of things possible. Congress withheld much needed money to protect embassies overseas, and it was money already appropriated, they just wouldn't let go of it. That should be kept in mind.

Your statement is correct if you're speaking of congress in that abandonment.

"FACT: Additional Forces Would Not Have Been Able To Get To Benghazi Before The Second Attack Was Concluded

Additional Reinforcements Would Not Have Been Able To Get To Benghazi Before The Second Attack Was Concluded. Transcripts of an interview Gregory Hicks gave to congressional investigators show that he while he said that a team of Special Forces had been told not to travel from Tripoli to aid U.S. personnel in Benghazi, the flight these Special Forces were scheduled to take, but did not, was scheduled to take off after 6:00 a.m., local time -- approximately 45 minutes after the attack at the CIA annex that killed two people. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), a member of the House Oversight Committee who has actively pursued investigations into the Benghazi attacks, also told The Washington Post that the Special Forces team that Hicks was referring to "would have arrived after the attack." [Media Matters, 5/7/13; The Washington Post, 5/6/13]

Decision To Not Send Second Force Was Made By The Head Of The Military's Africa Command, Who Was Concerned About Embassy Security In Tripoli. Diplomats on the ground the night of the attacks were concerned about threats to the Tripoli embassy complex, and a Pentagon spokesperson confirmed that the assessment of Special Operations Command Africa leadership at the time was that "it was more important for those guys to be in Tripoli" for embassy security. [Media Matters, 5/09/13]

Pentagon: Fighters Would Not Have Been Able To Get To Benghazi Due To Lack Of Fuel Tanker Support. Top military officials have said that fighter planes in the area could not have reached Benghazi because they lacked necessary refueling tankers. From Wired.com:

Dempsey and other top Pentagon officials have previously testified that they could not get commandos or fighter planes into Benghazi in time to save the lives of Amb. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. There was an unarmed surveillance drone over Benghazi, but Air Force fighters in Italy's Aviano air base lacked refueling tankers to allow them to get to the scene. Special-operations teams in the U.S. and Croatia were initially told to prepare for Benghazi, for a possible hostage-rescue mission, but they ultimately didn't get closer than a staging base in Europe before the attacks ended. [Wired.com, 5/8/13, via Media Matters]"

[ In Reply To ..]

Look up whole articles and see the difference between what is being said and what media matters say in their BOLD print. Quite a difference if you read the full articles.

For example: The heading for media matters bold headline was:

FACT: Additional Forces Would Not Have Been Able To Get To Benghazi Before The Second Attack Was Concluded

IOW: Media matters took ONE sentence from the full article for their “FACT” headline.

The article they allude to showed the headline for that one article was: Special Ops halted from responding to Benghazi attacks, U.S. diplomat says

…Defense Department officials have said they had no units that could have responded in time to counter the attack in Benghazi, but Republicans on Capitol Hill have questioned whether the Obama administration could have saved lives with a nimbler, more assertive response. They say that the reluctance to send the Special Operations troops may have, at the very least, deprived wounded Americans in Benghazi of first aid….

…After the attacks ended without planes being scrambled or special forces dispatched, the lieutenant colonel in Tripoli who commanded the Special Operations team told Hicks he was sorry that his men had been held back….

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/special-ops-halted-from-responding-to-benghazi-attacks-us-diplomat-says/2013/05/06/c3f311d4-b677-11e2-aa9e-a02b765ff0ea_story.html

Again, media matters is a liberal progressive, not neutral, NONPROFIT, and a shining example of support ONLY to the Obama administration.

Exactly, TH. That's why I said Media Matters doesn't matter. - They skew truth.
[ In Reply To ..]
if they even have it to begin with, many times they do not.
Your article says the same thing. Thank you. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Except the Post article includes Hick's testimony, which was mainly his opinion.

"“If we had been able to scramble a fighter or aircraft or two over Benghazi as quickly as possible after the attack commenced, I believe there would not have been a mortar attack on the [CIA] annex in the morning, because I believe the Libyans would have split,” Hicks said. “They would have been scared to death that we would have gotten a laser on them and killed them.”

Hicks said that late on the night of Sept. 11 he called the embassy’s defense attache, Lt. Col. Keith Phillips, and asked about the viability of sending jets.

“Is there anything coming?” Hicks said he asked Phillips.

Phillips told Hicks that the nearest planes were at Aviano Air Base in Italy and that it would take two to three hours to get them off the ground, the diplomat told congressional staffers. There also were no aircraft nearby that could have refueled airborne planes.

“The answer was, it’s too far away, there are no tankers, there is nothing, there is nothing that could respond,” he said.'

Anyhow nothing has come out of the testimony and it's been a month. Not to say it won't but it is doubtful.

Again, logistically it was impossible. I'd like to see an investigation as to why Congress withheld appropriated funds for embassy safety.
I'm sorry. I posted a post very similar to yours - sm

the war in Iraq, which was based on nothing but LIES, which Bush stated he would initiate before he even became president.

These soldiers walked around (on REPEATED tours of duty), literally not knowing if their next step was their last.

A LOT of lives were blown up through no fault of the soldiers. And their commander-in-chief kept sending them back repeatedly, whether they had all limbs intact or not, to do the same thing over and over and over again, working them like mules and then treating them like mule manure when they return to the USA.

The way we treat our veterans is shameful.

Perhaps you should ask a republican why funding requests for more security went ignored.

My thoughts - annieb - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
1. This was a tragedy that could have been prevented but looks like someone didn't want to and that is why there are investigations going on.

2. This tragedy is trying to be swept under the carpet and forgotten about as fast as they possibly can.

3. The deep sadness I feel to imagine what this man was going through as it was happening to him is so sad, so heartbreaking, the sadness I have for his family to think of what they have to live with that happened to their loved one is so deep. And then to see someone bee-bopping around in her chair, laughing, evading questions and then announcing who cares "what difference does it make now" is just ??? I can't even think of a word that is so bad for that. A person in that position should have compassion and know what they are doing. She has neither. This is what you get for hiring someone that has no experience. It's like letting an MT perform surgery. Just because we understand the medical terms and have typed surgery reports does not mean we know how to perform the surgery.

4. People should be fired for this. They will not because they are democrats. In fact wouldn't be surprised to see them promoted because of this.

5. Minions will defend the wrong doings of democrats over this because it happened under democrats. By their standards it is okay. Had it happened under a republicans watch they would want them tar and feathered and hung. But, a democrat? Hey that's okay then.

6. Nobody here will want to talk about this anymore because it is unfavorable towards Obama and democrats and anyone who brings it up will be called names. After all only O positive is allowed to be discussed.

And

7. Someone will try and blame Bush for this.

Lastly, thank you for bringing this up. It's an important topic that nobody should ever forget about.

God Bless Ambassador Stevens, my prayers go out to his family.

Thank you for bringing truth to the board - Sensible and compassionate
