Has anyone every experienced left shoulder pain after eating? SM

Posted: Jan 18, 2011

For a while now, after I eat and become very full, my left shoulder starts to hurt and sometimes radiates up into my neck.  I have had my gallbladder removed, have had angiography that was clean but again, this hurts and is driving me crazy.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

TIA

When I first developed reflux in my 20s, it was not classic reflux symptoms, like the burning in my throat or anything. I would just get terrible chest pain and sometimes even shortness of breath. In fact one day on the way home from work, I had such terrible chest pain and SOB that I stopped by the firehouse where my brother volunteered as I had my 2 year old son with me and when I walked in, they immediately sat me down and when I said I had chest pain and SOB, they pulled out the cardiac monitor and ran a strip but heart was okay. My interist did a full work up and it was reflux causing the chest pain. Try one of the over the counter reflux meds. I now take prescription strength omeprazole 40 mg twice a day before meals. If you are having the pain every time you eat, try taking the reflux meds about an hour before you eat and see if they relieve the pain. Hope it is something simple like that to help you.

Thanks so much Cindy for your reply. Unfortunately I do not (sm) - anon

suffer from heartburn or reflux, at least not that I am aware. I have been told that my problem may be caused by a problem with my diaphragm but not sure how. It is really strange because as I am eating my left shoulder will start hurting and it goes up into my neck, almost as if the more full that my stomach becomes it may be pressing on a nerve or sorts. I was recently diagnosed with severe arthritis in my neck so I am not sure if this is related some how. Any way, I am going to see the doctor and see what his opinion is.

Thanks again so much for your reply and I am so glad that you worked your situation out. I hope that you continue to feel better!

Sounds very similar to my symptoms... - sm

I also never had heartburn but had the chest pain and SOB. It felt like I could not take in a deep breath. Often awoke from sleep from it. Also, I had difficulty swallowing food without a sip of liquids to wash it down. EKG was perfectly normal. Had to try a couple PPIs before settling on Prilosec. Now, I only take a 2-week OTC course if it starts to flare up. When on an antireflux diet, I have no problems, but it is so hard giving up coffee and chocolate!

Good luck to OP. I hope all turns out well.

I had the same thing and my mom told me it was reflux. I tried OTC meds and the pain went away (love my mom!) Whenever it flares, I just have to take a couple days of meds and I'm good. It may be worth a try. I hope you can find relief soon.

I Think We Have All Experienced There Is Something Out ThereOct 02, 2011
In pondering Scriptures like "be content with your wages" and even the Scripture that admonishes slaves to be faithful/respectful to their masters, I have been wondering how to handle life situations.  In the context of modern day society, what do you feel is the application of these, should we go to war for better wages, etc.  Personally, I make a fair living, though not enough to live an affluent lifestyle.  I have enough faith to believe that whatever is out there will tak ...

Any Experienced Wal-Mart Thanksgiving Thursday Shoppers?Nov 14, 2014
Has anyone done the Wal-Mart Thanksgiving Thursday sale where they say the item is One-hour guarantee?  I have read online that if they don't have the product in the store that they will ship it to you before Christmas, but my question is this.  If I am standing in the line at 6 p.m. and the one-hour guarantee ends at 7 then what if it is a slow person checking you out, if you are in the line, do you get the product, or if the line is super long should I just give up the quest to ...

Needless to say with my lowly wages as a transcriptionist I could not afford it. She has become miss high and mighty e ...

Loose Body In Shoulder JointJan 10, 2012
I woke up 2 days ago with the worst shoulder pain ever and went to the doc where he did an x-ray. It showed  I have a loose body in the joint space. He gave me Tramadol and told me to use ice and heat and maybe it would calm down on its own. Otherwise, he said he would refer me to an orthopedist for shoulder arthroscopy and loose body removal. He is very conservative (he knows this), but I would like to know if anyone has had this and if the loose body does ever work its way back to whereve ...

Question Regarding Any MT Having Right Shoulder Problems TypingJul 07, 2010
Hi all:  Has anyone had trouble with right shoulder hurting, burning type pain, tired, feeling like your arm is going to fall off and making right triceps weak after sitting at the computer so long.   I have been to doc twice, on pain pills, muscle relaxers, NSAID, hot tub for muscle soreness.  I have not been to the neurosurgeon yet.  I think it is a pinched nerve causing this as I searched symptoms on line and this is pretty close to what I am having.  Driving me ...

Sleep-eating? Feb 28, 2011
