Hi everyone-I have a really annoying medical condition and am wondering if anyone has had the same thing.
I am 54, 5 years of menopause under my belt. I have pretty much stopped with the hot flashes, insomnia and extreme mood swings (hubby is happy). Roughly 18 months ago I started deveoping random areas with hives controlled by antihistamines. A year ago I developed vulvodynia (so painful!) and started using small doses of premarin vaginal cream twice a week. It successfully kept it under control and my doctor thought I might have to use it until menopause was over.
Last fall I noticed a red rash developing on the lower portion of the front of my neck spreading downward in a "V" pattern just above my cleavage. It took a few weeks, but it got redder and hotter, and then my neck broke out like crazy in hives and I wound up in the ER. At this same time for weeks my body would be cold but my hairline was always sweaty, and it didn't matter what the temperature was. My doctor thought I needed to take the small dose of Premarin pills and quit the cream. Within 4 days I was wheezing and the rash was out of control. I stopped the pills and it took about 10 days to wind down to its original state of redness.
I would have temporary flare-ups and be stuck on antihistamines untiil it would subside. My doctor thinks I might be having a reaction to the estrogens in soy. I have been diligent about removing soy from my diet (easier than I thought it would be) and have noticed some improvement, however, it still gets a little out of control on its own. I have had a ton of labs the last 6 months showing my thryoid is fine, hormones are normal for my menopausal state, lipids, cbc, everything OK.
I have had no soy anything for a week now, and it is starting to flare up again. I get a horribly itchy neck and jawline for a day or two before the rash kicks into high gear. Has anyone lived through this or heard about it, and can you give me some info on what to do? Nothing I buy OTC or the pharmaceutical steroid creams are helping the rash or itch, and it makes we crazy, not to mention I can't hide it with clothing as the heat generated sends it off the map. Anything you can share with me would be greatly appreciated, sorry this is so long...
