The skin rash that refuses to die

Posted: Apr 16, 2016

Anyone got good skin rash remedies?  I've had a rash on my left forearm for several YEARS.... it waxes and wanes, but is always dry and plaque-like.  Very similar to psoriasis, but my arthritis is osteo, not inflammatory, so I'm pretty sure it's just some form of eczema.  It's sometimes dry and scaly, sometimes weepy (especially when I scratch too much) and has become scarred as a result.

I've tried everything:  Cortisone creams, dry skin creams, anti-itch creams, calamine, Noxema, Eucerin Skin-Calming, baby oil, you name it.  All give only temporary relief.  Can't see a dermatologist til next summer, when my Medicare Part B kicks in.  Anyone had good results from any particular product on itchy rashes?

Use equal parts, spread over the affected area, and keep it on for 10-15 minutes, then wash off with warm water. It's very messy, but I used it successfully on two different skin rashes. Good luck.

I would suggest trying to see a PCP or go to a clinic to get a diagnosis. We have psoriasis in our family and also arthritis (degenerative not psoriatic - it doesn't go hand in hand). I started with what was called a small "herald patch" for a long time before it really flared. Another of my relatives has something similar to that patch but it is not psoriasis. Best to know and try to get a jump on it before it overwhelms. It is horribly itchy and not many things helped mine. I did use things like Eucerin, zinc oxide, cortisone cream, and other OTC aids before it got bad. Hope you can get the help you need. Good luck.

Have you tried attacking it with diet rather than just ointments? - We are what we eat.

In addition to a balanced and complete multivitamin daily, make sure you are getting enough healthy fats and oils in your diet (soy and canola aren't it). Take some cod liver oil every day for its vitamin D and A and omega-3 fatty acids. (You could try rubbing some of it into your scaly spot as well.) If you aren't living in the sun belt and spending time outdoors every day, you need vitamin D supplementation. In addition, eat a few nuts every day.

Use powdered kelp sprinkled on your food to replace some of the salt--it will give you a whole list of trace minerals. Make sure you are getting lots of vitamin C, particularly if you aren't eating at least 3 servings of fruit and 4 of a range of vegetables every day.

Acquired psoriasis can be linked to metabolic syndrome, so cut out the excess sugar and junk food.

That type of rash is notoriously associated with gluten. Mine went away ... no more itch ...with a gluten free diet. It was easy, too.

I've eaten gluten all my life. My rash seems - to have no specific triggers that - sm

I can detect, other than too much sun makes it go crazy, regardless of whether I use sunscreen or not, though it'[s usually worse without sunscreen.

In a couple more months I'll finally have my Medicare in place, and a new doctor. Hopefully I can get a referral to a dermatologist, and maybe some answers.

Hi everyone-I have a really annoying medical condition and am wondering if anyone has had the same thing. I am 54, 5 years of menopause under my belt. I Have Fiery Red, Scaly Rash In The Corner Of My Eye And Down The Side Of My Nose??Feb 28, 2010
I have tried everything from throwing out my masacara, eye shadows, and eye liners and buying all new.  I've replaced my jar of foundation with a new jar.  I've been putting hydrocortisone cream on it twice a day and still it doesn't go away.  I tried Benadryl cream, a cornucopia of moisturizers and it doesn't get better.  It peels, itches and burns sometimes, but mostly it's just plain ugly.  I'm fair skinned and if I go without makeup, all ...

AL Deals With Rash Of Shootings Since Fri Injuring/killing 3 Kids,Dec 16, 2012
Since court cases are often won by arguing preponderance of the evidence, it may prove useful to draw attention to these everyday situations each time they happen, as was suggested in an earlier post. Alabama is one of those states that does NOT have an "opt-out" gun law in place for such institutions as businesses, schools, hospitals and other public gatherings who wish to circumvent existing lax concealed carry law by declaring a "gun-free zone" policy and posting a sign.  In most states ...

This occurred at a retirement home, not a SNF. The nurse, who did identify herself as one on the 911 line, called 911--following retirement home rules for its employees--when a resident Lorraine Bayless collapsed, but she refused the 911 operator's repeated instruction, and then begging, to initiate CPR, saying it was against the rules, that they were instructed to call paramedics and otherwise stay out of it. Followup On My Skin CancerJan 11, 2010
Well, I had my surgery on New Year's Eve, and came away with an 8 cm incision wrapping around my dorsal forearm.  I got the pathology back and it was a well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, 3 x 3.5 cm, all margins clear.  Right now looking at the incision it's hard to imagine that he's correct when he says it will eventually be just a very thin white line.  It looks like someone tried to cut my arm off.  I have to go back every three months for a recheck ...
