Did President Obama know about the VA problems?

Posted: May 19, 2014

It's being reported that the president knew about the problems at the VA since 2008, and so he should since he is Commander in Chief. So, if he knew about those problems and all these other scandals brewing, just what has he accomplished during his presidency other than the colossal failure known as Obamacare? Of all the scandals, the one involving Veterans is right up there with Benghazi. The very people who have volunteered to protect America, including the President, and this is the thanks they get. I am so disappointed in him. More printable words cannot find their way to my fingers.

;

Very dramatic.... but not even partially factual - Let's start with the first ?

Did the president know about the VA problems?

Did W. Bush?
Did Clinton?
Did G. Bush?
Did Reagan?
Did Carter?
How about LBJ? Nixon?

You only fooling yourself if you think this is a new problem. The entire country should be ashamed of supporting wars that DON'T support the soldiers after the fact.

So tell me about how your outrage goes back decades - and then we can chat about the current administration.

Sorry, I'm not playing the blame game. - sm

During the administrations you cited, there were not people resigning and there were not others asking for resignations. Huge difference!!! People need to wake up and stop defending this president. He is NOT who we voted for.

Sorry, I'M not playing DODGE - BALL.

[ In Reply To ..]
My points were totally valid and its DISengenuous to pretend the problems of the VA are all laid at the feet of the president you so clearly despise.

If you want to place blame with this administration that's fine, only don't expected to be taken seriously when you/others JUST like you on the board are so transparently playing the GOTCHA game.

Don't like games? Let's see you be fair.
No deflection. - sm

I just posted "Obama Scandals" above. That same post applies in answer to your post.
You posted what *you* see as scandals - and heres a global rejection of same
[ In Reply To ..]
Too bad your side tends to dismiss global warming because then you could try to make this an Obama scandal, too...
If Obama said the world was flat, - you'd believe that as well.

False - premise

Your premise could only be true if, in fact, I believed everything my president said.

I have a health skepticism for ALL presidents, this one included.

Let's be real here: I will FAIRLY criticize this administration/president when it is deserved, and I also happily applaud same when credit is due.

You/your side is only interested in anything remotely NEGATIVE that can be attached to the president and/or his administration. It would be good of you to admit that.
I agree with your first 3 sentences. - sm

The last one sounds like something fresh out of the mouth of whomever happens to be broadcasting on MSNBC and is afraid to accept reality. I'm done here. I need to get to work. Have a nice day.
Assumption. I don't watch MSNBC - CNN, of FOX

it should be obvious I don't need highly paid teleprompter-readers to tell me what to think, or how.

As to 'accepting reality,' whose reality am I 'afraid' to accept? Yours?

I suggest you sit down and buckle up because you are in for a bumpy ride. This latest demonstration of incompetence and deceit (with regard to the VA) will most definitely seal the fate of his legacy, which is the destruction of America.

Yup. I recall many years ago - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
My co-worker's hubby would go up to the VA for an appointment. She would have to go with him. They would be gone the entire day and he would not get in for his appointment. This was 25 years ago. Tell me, what have the Republicans done to help this issue? All I ever hear is how they are cutting the budget for the vets.

There were also no reports of vets dying due to - lack of appointments.

[ In Reply To ..]
Take your faux "outrage" elsewhere. This president has done nothing. Oh, wait, he reads the paper.

Does it make you feel better when he says he's - mad as Hell about it? JA.

I think we would see "true" passion (mad as hell) if... - sm

...he had a loved one who needed care from the Veterans Administration and said loved one did not receive said care. Only then would he truly understand. I just don't think he's capable of stepping down to a level under him to show compassion. I used to think he was, but not anymore. He's acting like an elitist.

The backlog goes many years before Obama - Crabby

[ In Reply To ..]
Vets have had to fight for any benefits through the VA, especially Vietnam. What bothers me is it is a continuous problem. VA funding has increased by 40%, and Gen. Shinseki himself said part of the problem is too much money (LOL). I don't think people realize it is also the Department of Defense's fault for the long wait, as they cannot admit to chemicals used, vaccinations, etc during certain "conflicts" much like Vietnam vets who were exposed to Agent Orange. Gulf War vets worldwide are having the same basic problems, yet DOD won't say what was used. That being said, it bothers me that Obama says he found out about the VA problems through the news, yet there are SO many news clips showing him talking about the VA problems from years ago. Let's have someone take accountability, instead of "firing" a VA top manager who was leaving anyway. Vets get denied benefits to cut down on the backlog and have to start the appeals process, which takes YEARS (I know this because my husband initiated an appeal 2 years ago and still hasn't gotten a date for appeal yet). I find it ironic it was easier for my husband to get Social Security disability than get his claim appealed by VA. Jon Stewart went on a great rant Monday pointing fingers at EVERYONE, Bush, Cheney, Rice, Obama, you name them. I hold every one of them, past and present, accountable.

You have nailed it! - NPC

[ In Reply To ..]
My only addition is that Jon Stewart should have added a few presidents before Bush. I didn't see his show, maybe he did mention others. He certainly should have!!

Addendum to above... - NPC

[ In Reply To ..]
The issue as I see it now is that President Obama apparently did know about the VA problems because he mentioned them in his first campaign. Having known about them, why has he done nothing about them? That is what bothers me. Yes, the other presidents should have done something about the issues as well, but this is now and the problem is more in the forefront. Let's fix it!

Good post. This could be over quickly if - Americans would EVER unite

This was the subject I posted a week or so ago, and here's a good example.

IF Americans gave nonstop attention to this issue, we could solve this once and for all.

Now I know some people chastised Michelle for her tweet of the sign BRING BACK OUR GIRLS. Who is willing to start a similar campaign? #TREAT OUR VETS NOW!
