I have fiery red, scaly rash in the corner of my eye and down the side of my nose??

Posted: Feb 28, 2010

I have tried everything from throwing out my masacara, eye shadows, and eye liners and buying all new.  I've replaced my jar of foundation with a new jar.  I've been putting hydrocortisone cream on it twice a day and still it doesn't go away.  I tried Benadryl cream, a cornucopia of moisturizers and it doesn't get better.  It peels, itches and burns sometimes, but mostly it's just plain ugly.  I'm fair skinned and if I go without makeup, all people see is this fiery red patch on my face.  It just looks awful.

If it doesn't go away, I guess I'll suck it up and pay the $30 copay and go to the doctor, but I'm trying to avoid that if at all possible.  I hate to go to the doctor for a stupid skin rash!  Any suggestions?

It sounds like you have messed with it long enough. I say bite the bullet and pay the $30 co-pay and get it seen by a doc. I know how we can be, we tend to think we can heal ourselves. If you have fair skin it could be a basal cell carcinoma, why mess with it any longer? Good Luck!

Could it be shingles? - daisymae

from stress. Have you tried Abreva?

It will look more awful if it scars - sm

Even worse if it messes with your vision and you can't see it, or anything, at all.

Go to the doctor.

You are most likely allergic to something you use - sm -

I had a similar rash on my neck years ago, looked to some I am sure like a herpes outbreak (it wasn't). It was nasty, itchy, hurt and was scaly. I was seeing a dermatologist for contact dermatitis of my hands when this happened so back I went of course. They gave me this gross stuff which aggravated it more unfornately and suggested I do patch tests. So I did, and applied various things to my inner arm and covered with a band-aid -- which I labeled --for 2 days, no shower, etc. while they did their thing. Turns out I was allergic to my shampoo. Stopped using that brand and rash went away immediately. It happened again about two years later and was my shampoo again. Finesse and Pert Plus I cannot use, though I don't think Finesse is out there anymore. So it could be something really simple. If you don't want to spend the money for a doctor (though I think you should see a dermatologist) then try this first and see if you can find something that you use on your face or near it (shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent, etc.)and do a 48-hour patch test. Dab some on your arm and seal under a band-aid. Leave it alone and check it in 48 hours.

I had a rash on my forehead last fall which I assumed ws a bug bite. When it started to spread slightly and didn't go away, I went to the doctor. Ended up with shingles and she was very concerned about it being so close to my eyes and sent me to an ophthalmologist. Don't mess around--see your doctor SOON!

and stick to it.  For months I read here how essential it was to pass health care reform, Obamacare was right, had to happen, because the uninsured do not receive medical care.  Had to happen.  Okay, in muted form, it passed.  Then states sued because they feel it is unconstitutional for the federal government to require citizens to buy health insurance.  The Obama admin defends the suit on this basis: When accidents or illnesses inevitably occur, the uninsured still re ...

Any medical students or nurses out there, I have a rash that doesn't itch, but is very ugly between my thighs.  I am working, but i don't have insurance and I need to see a dermatologist. i am afraid it will snowball because if I go in and get diagnosed, what is the medicine going to cost?  Or what if it is something that i need to be hospitalized or something?  It is red and patchy and there is a lot of it.  I also have it under one breast.  I have tried psorr ...

Persistent Rash Problems-please Help!Jun 03, 2011
Hi everyone-I have a really annoying medical condition and am wondering if anyone has had the same thing. I am 54, 5 years of menopause under my belt. I have pretty much stopped with the hot flashes, insomnia and extreme mood swings (hubby is happy). Roughly 18 months ago I started deveoping random areas with hives controlled by antihistamines. A year ago I developed vulvodynia (so painful!) and started using small doses of premarin vaginal cream twice a week. It successfully kept it under cont ...

The Skin Rash That Refuses To DieApr 16, 2016
Anyone got good skin rash remedies?  I've had a rash on my left forearm for several YEARS.... it waxes and wanes, but is always dry and plaque-like.  Very similar to psoriasis, but my arthritis is osteo, not inflammatory, so I'm pretty sure it's just some form of eczema.  It's sometimes dry and scaly, sometimes weepy (especially when I scratch too much) and has become scarred as a result. I've tried everything:  Cortisone creams, dry skin creams, ant ...

AL Deals With Rash Of Shootings Since Fri Injuring/killing 3 Kids,Dec 16, 2012
Since court cases are often won by arguing preponderance of the evidence, it may prove useful to draw attention to these everyday situations each time they happen, as was suggested in an earlier post. Alabama is one of those states that does NOT have an "opt-out" gun law in place for such institutions as businesses, schools, hospitals and other public gatherings who wish to circumvent existing lax concealed carry law by declaring a "gun-free zone" policy and posting a sign.  In most states ...

Anyone Have An Idea How To Wear Glasses With A Nose Injury?Oct 20, 2010
Yesterday, my husband was grinding the rust off a metal lawn mower deck. The grinder caught on a piece of metal and in a flash, bouced up, hit his safety goggles and knocked them and his glasses to the top of his head and took a little chunk from the side of his nose (thankfully did not hit his eye) right where the nose piece sits about 1 inch, plus gave him 'road rash' on the tip.
