I have had a lot of problems with my breasts over the years, have had 3 biopsies in the left and 1 in the right but thank God they have all be negative. However, over the last several weeks I have been experiencing something different, pain and burning in my right breast along with swelling (not a lot but enough for me to notice). I have performed self-examinations and other than exquisite tenderness throughout the breast I cannot find any masses (I actually do have a 6 mm nodule in this breast). I had a right-sided mammogram last week which showed that the nodule had not changed and there were no other problems. My internist has treated me with Celebrex, antibiotics and a shot of steroids thinking that it is mastitis. It seemed to "cool" off but today seems to be returning with a passion. I have an appointment later this week with my surgeon (my "breast guy") and wanted some opinions on what else to ask for. My internist seemed to have the attitude that since the mammogram was okay then there are no problems; however, this is extremely painful and I am terrified that something may be over looked. Does anyone have any suggestions on what other testing to ask for? Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this?
Thanks so much!
