Vent inside - ?

[ In Reply To ..]
They sell that little box that the dryer hose hooks too inside and I believe it has water in it or something. I've never had one, but a friend of mine did and it didn't steam up her house or anything.

I used one of those for years, - it worked great.

My washer and dryer are in the second floor hall section for them. - MT2

[ In Reply To ..]
I am wondering if the house would get mold or cause problems with the walls because of the dampness blowing out of the dryer or the moisture.
The indoor vents are made for that. - Go to Home Depot and ask them. NM

Yes, and you will get sick - Get a ventless dryer. nm

How is ventless dryer better/different than inside vent system? - Same moisture, gases, heat. How better? nm

Explanation - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Regular dryers just blow the water vapor and lint out a hose into the air. If you don't vent the hose outdoors, it ends up in your home. Your home is not designed to deal with that. Neither is your air-conditioner.

Ventless dryers condense the water vapor back into water again, then dump it into the washer drain pipe or into a holding tank.

Google "how do ventless dryers work" for more information.
Surely you dont think indoor vent system is just a tube from - dryer that sprays out into room, do you? nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
I dunno, what do YOU think they are? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Looks like that to me. Either you vent the exhaust
straight into the room or through a box of water to trap the lint.

Even the product descriptions say they vent "warm, moist air" into your home. Maybe great if you live in the Mojave, or in the north during winter when you are dried out using heat, but not in many other places.

I don't know why this is turning into some kind of offense-filled controversy, do you? Either you live where this will work or you don't. If you don't, you need to get a ventless dryer or vent a regular one outside.

The physics behind this are clear. That water has to go somewhere. The fact that you cannot see it doesn't mean it isn't there.

I think a ventless system vents dry into a container that then - works as a ventless dryer does. Easy Peasy. nm

Think about where that lint and humidity goes - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
The lint will cover surfaces and actually become a fire hazaard. Between the lint, humidity, detergent and clothing residue getting blown into the air, you have quite the recipe for respiratory illnesses. I would talk to a real plumber. Here is an idea. Do you have a window in the vicinity that can be opened? Secure the vent hose to a piece of plywood cut to fit in the window opening. You could take it in and out when you use it. Note the buildup of lint in the hose after a few months or a year. We have dogs and I could stuff a quilt with the hair and lint that comes out of our dryer every year.

Really?? You think an inside vent designed for inside is - going to do that? Dont think so. nm

Put your nose outside of a laundromat vent and take a deep breath - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If you don't care about your health, there are the added air conditioning costs, damge to the dryer unit from the extra power needed to exhaust the air through the "magic box", and of course repairing and cleaning up the mold damage. By the way, I have worked in healthy and safety for home owners.
Vent DESIGNED to be used inside will be nothing like what - you describe. There is a BIG difference. nm

Dryer vent gas corrodes electrical components - according to hubby
[ In Reply To ..]
My hubby is an HVAC technician and he has observed that it seems that furnace circuit boards fail more often in homes that have dryers vented inside, he feels due to the added moisture and stuff exhausted in detergents and fibers.

Most municipal codes do no allow inside venting. I would think that if it was a good idea, more people would do it. Seems like it could aggravate asthma, bronchitis, etc.

Whatever. I would keep your expensive computer equipment in another building.
So poster who used one for year with no problems is just - an anomoly? The only lucky one? nm

Unseen problems - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Dryer exhaust contains all the water left in the clothes. It is a lot. The method mentioned above does not catch all of it.

Perhaps if you live in a very dry climate, you could get away with that, but you can't if you live in high humidity.

A neighbor in my building did that. They ended up with mold in the walls and ceiling. It destroyed the sheetrock, the wood framing, the popcorn ceiling, the fixtures, and the cabinetry. They found it after the downstairs neighbor noticed a mildew smell and HIS walls buckled. They had to gut both condos and rebuild them from the concrete up.

There are ventless dryers.

Ventless dryers dry the clothes, then condense the vapor back into liquid water, which empties into the washer drain or into a holding tank. They trap the lint, too.

Can I Vent Here?Jan 04, 2010
I sure hope I can! Today has been a bad one.  Getting dinged on reports for things I shouldn't.  I have sent more than 5 emails to various QA people about things they are changing on my reports that shouldn't be changed.  But that's not my major gripe. My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year now, and have recently moved in together.  He is going through a nasty situation with his ex regarding custody of the children, etc.  It has been going ...

Just A VentMay 11, 2011
This doesn't really require advice, but just a vent.  I had written about two weeks ago regarding problems my daughter was having with her boyfriend of 7 months.  Well, he just broke up with her two days ago after he invited her to his prom this Saturday and after she invited him to hers (they had talked and decided to still be a couple about a week or so ago).  She is devastated.  She won't eat, she's crying all the time.  To make a long story short, he j ...

Just Need To VentMay 31, 2014
I'm sorry I just need to get this off my chest. I really only have one good friend, and she has her own troubles, so here goes... Last night, my husband's computer broke. He thought it was the video card, so we ordered a replacement for about $230. This morning, the computer is completely dead, won't even power up at all, so obviously more than the video card, which has already shipped, so I'll have to wait until it gets here, ship it back and get the refund minus the $ ...

Non-MT VentDec 22, 2016
I am posting this here because I know most of you have worked on-site in offices at some point in your lives and I wanted some feedback regarding something that happened in my office.  I used to work as an MT and now I'm in a medical records office with about 10 or so coworkers.  Most of the ladies are nice but there are a couple who like to stir up trouble and one who is a nosy-body and tattletale.  I'm in my 60s, single and happy with my status, not really interested i ...

A Vent And A QuestionJan 07, 2010
Hey all, I will try to keep this brief.  My question first and then the reasons behind it.  Has anybody out there in their life ever just picked up, cut ties and disappeared to some place else?  Men and women have done it, but women less, I think.  Now for the vent/reasons I ask, I like a lot of people now am having it very, very hard.  I won't bore you will all of it, but financially, job-wise, vehicle-wise, love life-wise, I am just a mess.  I would love to ...

Gotta Vent About DH!!!!May 03, 2011
To make a long story short ... I have to see a specialist today as I have been having some medical problems.  This appointment has been scheduled for almost 3 weeks during which time I have asked my DH on several occasions if he would go with me, each time he states that he will.  Today, however, when he remembers that I have the appointment he "innocently" asked me if I needed for him to go, going on to state that he has a lot around the house that he needs to do.  This has hurt ...

Vent About My NeighborSep 23, 2010
Okay, so I have a neighbor who is unemployed.  I know this cos he and his other half are always having screaming shouting matches and she yells he doesn't work and doesn't contribute, doesn't drive, eats her food, smokes, won't even watch "her kid", blah, blah, blah. So..what does he do?  He goes and gets himself a motorcycle.  So he has no license to drive it and it sits there in the yard (not their parking area, but their back yard that faces our back yard) a ...

Neighbors VentAug 19, 2010
Are there any frequent movers out there?  I have become so disolutioned that I'm just upset.  We moved into a neighborhood quite a few years ago and with the economy saw many changes.  We've watched one neighbor grow up and thank goodness he got his license because now he doesn't sit around and have all his friends there (won't even go into the bahavior and language they used to display - I'm just thankful he's not there anymore).  But now there ...

VENT! DIL's Mother...Jun 09, 2010
So, my DIL and son have been married 5 years.  My son is in the service and they had the good fortune to have been stationed in DIL's hometown for the whole time they have been together.  Her whole family is there and have been a great source of support when my son has been deployed.  I had opportunities to visit and thanked them for being supportive of him when he was gone.  6 months ago they were stationed one state away from me, 3 hours away.  DIL was super ...

May I Vent About Gov. Rendel?Jul 08, 2010
First time a budget was passed on time BUT he wouldn't sign it until he got the "little" extras he was asking for in amendments. Sort of like blackmail.  Threats were made about layoffs and unpaid state workers....well, in this budget, he cut Medicaid funding, library funding, firefighter funding and more.  He is still talking about laying off some workers and he's "sorry about that but at least PA residents don't get a tax hike." First, the extras adding items arelike: ...

I Need A Shoulder To Cry On (long Vent)Jan 10, 2012
I am sitting here so depressed. I have two adult daughters and five grandkids. My oldest daughter is a widow (her husband was killed in Afghanistan in 2005) with two kids. She is a professional photographer. She took a picture of my other daughter and her kids which I fell in love with and when I asked her if I could have one, she said the price is $80 (black and white, 8 x 10). Needless to say with my lowly wages as a transcriptionist I could not afford it. She has become miss high and mighty e ...

What Is Wrong With People? I Really Gotta Vent!!Dec 03, 2010
Is there an increase in child abuse lately?  Have I just become more aware of it since I have 2 toddler grandkids, or is it just that the media is covering it more.  I saw where a 7-year-old girl was locked in a cold attic for months for bedwetting by her grandmother.  She was beaten and starved.  She had chunks of bald spots on her head from having her hair ripped out.  She had a broken foot.  The grandmother said she was raising her grandchildren and was "doing th ...

Need To Vent - Maybe I Have Been Married Too Long To Understand....Feb 27, 2014
I recently talked to a young man who got married in December 2012.  They keep mentioning they never got to be newlyweds.  I am sorry but i dont understand - they got a 1 week honeymoon, came home to their own apartment, then 3 months ago decided to move back in with his parents to "save money, pay off bills, and get a fresh start"  Ummm you only been married 9 months - and one of you came into the relationship with bad credit - these are young people 25 and 26.  Now living wi ...

Vent About My Hubby During This Wonderful Holiday Season ... (sm)Dec 23, 2010
Every year at Christmas my hubby is able to take two weeks off, which is wonderful for him but is beginning to stink for me.  By the time his vacation is over I will be extremely resentful towards him and I hate that.  In years past he has always done everything he can to help me out while I am working, cleaning the house, wrapping presents, picking up little odd and end gifts, etc.  However, this year all he has done is lay on the couch and sleep after sleeping until 11:00 every ...

Vent On Girl Scouts And Cookie Selling - SmMar 09, 2010
Just a vent, frustrated at one my younger daugher's troop leaders.  They have a goal of 170 boxes per girl to sell.  Generally if she gets 30 boxes on her own we are lucky  I drive them to all the neighbors (14), and hit up grandparents (have agreement with siblings not to bug them with this sort of stuff), and we sell about 60 boxes that way.  But.I have two daughers in two different troops.  So I take them out soliciting here and they split the sales.&nb ...

Why Politicians Make Me Wanna Scream (vent)Jul 29, 2010
I bow to no political party.  I just wanted to get that out up front before people start bashing me for what I'm about to say here. I live in Indiana and I'm annoyed that Dan Coats is running for senate.  This man is a lawyer, politician, and lobbyist.  That right there makes me not trust him.  Dan Coats worked as a lobbyist and the firm he worked for was hired to advocate for a cap-and-trade proposal.  Now that Dan Coats is running for senate in Indiana ...

Well, After 3 Years, My Son's Divorce Is Finally Official- Very Long Vent.Jun 14, 2010
Thank heavens, no children in their 11 years, but his ex won't leave him alone. She's constantly calling him wanting money or furniture, or just to hassle him.  She had taken everything out of the home they once lived in and he only wound up with a kitchen table and chairs. That's it. Now she wants that back. He's going to do it hoping she will get off his back. BTW, she used to hit him when they would fight. He came over one day with red marks all over his ch ...

Advice PleaseMar 22, 2011
I was bored and decided to tamper with my hair (my favorite fashion accessory).  I spent the weekend bringing it from a deep mahogany to platinum.  Damage was minimal considering it was an at-home job with my husband I the "colorists," lol! I know with this new hair color change I need to amp up the makeup so as not to look faded out.  I've dug out a few of my "bolder" colored lipsticks instead of the nude lip I usually used as a brunette, but was wondering if any other blon ...

AdviceMar 22, 2011
Hi all, I just needed a little advice.  My sister called me last night and asked me to watch my 2yo niece while she and her husband and her 13yo daughter went on a cruise in June.  I told her that I couldnt because the 3 days that she wants me to watch her are days that I work.  Keep in mind, I have a 13yo, a 4yo, and a 16mo myself which I work at home with and it is difficult.  I just dont think that people get how hard it is even though Im at home.  Anyway, so I told ...

Need Some AdviceDec 11, 2009
Good morning...I need some advice and at this point any advice is welcome :-)  I have a 5 year old energetic, funny, sweet little boy who is in kindergarten.  I just had a short meeting with his teacher yesterday who said that she is having some real issues with my son in class.  She says that he is very disruptive and acts silly all day.  She says that he is not mean by any means and is very sweet, but he just simply will not concentrate on the task at hand but would rather ...

I've been living with a guy for 12 years. There are some aspects of his personality/behavior that are positive. However, he has a habit of mocking me at just about every opportunity, belittling, that kind of stuff. When I get upset he says he "was being funny." He likes to contradict me in public when possible and point out negatives - not so much about me specifically but demeaning comments about things like my dog or my hobbies, etc. I ask him to please not do these things in public but i ...

Need Advice - What Would You Do?Jan 19, 2010
I need advice on what you would do in my situation.  I'm so upset about it and my husband says not to do anything and basically dismissing it.  I'll try to make this as short as possible.  My family has been best friends with another family for about ten years.  They're just like family. We do everything together.  This past weekend their 16 year old daughter stayed over because she had a track meet and the rest of the family was going away for the lo ...

I wanted to see if anyone has some advice on what to do on a situation I am having with my ex-husband's girlfriend. This past Monday morning my apartment complex called me and told me that they received a fax the evening before that I wanted to be treated for bedbugs! She then asked me why I didn't leave my phone number on the fax only my addre ...

Ok, here goes.... My husband drives a truck.  When he comes in his dad (who is divorced and lives with his mother who is in her 80s and I guess you would say has no life) comes over.  Well, no problem there except he don't know when to leave.  LOL  He comes around 10 or 11 am and stays until 10 or 11 pm.  Then the next day he is back again unless he is working and then he comes after work.  I don't mind him coming to visit every day when my husband is in ...

MIL AdviceOct 25, 2010
Our family was planning a trip to Disney World this summer and then I decided that maybe we should go to California (where we are from) and go to Disneyland, that way grandparents can come.  Since then, my MIL has taken it upon herself to plan out ourentire vacation, starting with trying to make our motel reservations on the drive there and ending with making them on the way back.  If she were just being nice, it would be completely different, but really, she is just being controlling. ...

I'll try not to make this too long, but I have an 18-year-old, soon to be 19-year-old son who just told me a couple months ago that he is gay.  I was shocked, but not totally, as I had suspicions before because he never really showed much interest in girls.  Anyway, I told him I love him no matter what and that did not matter to me.  it took me a couple months to get over the heartache of it, though.  His dad doesn't know yet, nor his younger brother, as I told him ...

I am having some issues with my boyfriend.  He has not been working for a while now and I have been paying rent/bills/groceries all on my own.  No big deal, it has to be done, but what I am having a problem with is his bi-weekly "allowance".  He needs his own money to spend, and I understand that, but no matter how much money I tell him I am going to give him, it is never enough.  He is never happy with what I give him (usually a couple hundred dollars).  I never sp ...

I need some advice about my sister-in-law.  We are going to her house next week for three days.   Well, she wanted my husband to help her buy some power tools and teach her how to use them and put up a trellis.   So that was the plan for Friday.   I was okay with that – didn’t feel too left out.  Now she has made other plans for Saturday that I don't want to do.   How do I politely tell her I’m not into spend ...
