Romney won the married people vote

Posted: Nov 12, 2012

Hmmmm....that suggests to me that when people grow up, get married, have a family, they see life from a conservative standpoint--work hard, pay taxes, etc. When they were younger they might have been living for the moment and voted accordingly. IMHO.;

Not this one. - RC

Nor my husband's.

He won mine, and my husand, and my brother and his wife, and his sister and husband - and my sister and on and on and on

We're not the only ones who voted for him. I'd like to know what your post adds to the original topic being discussed. Romney won overwhelmingly with married couples. He even won the vote of my friends who are gay and a lot of their friends. He actually won more votes.

Get it? No I didn't think so.

Wow, you're punchy. - RC

PS--in what world did Romney win more votes?

Same here. nm. - And we are both registered Republicans.

He didn't get my husband's either.

Unsurprisingly, I see it differently. - grits

I like to think that when some people grow up, get married, and get comfortable, they become more mellow and less uptight about what other people are doing.

When people have a family to support - -

their view on life becomes long-term, not "what's in it for me today?" It's more focused on supporting their family the best way they can. There's a certain pride in hard work and taking responsibility that's missing in the lives of those whose lifestyle is government handouts. That's human nature.

Evidently you're buying into the right-wing narrative... - anon

...that those who aren't of the conservative persuasion are sitting around on their bums with their hands out. I know this is hard to wrap your head around, but I and millions of other moderates and liberals do take pride in hard work and don't take government handouts. Lots of us even have families (gasp!). We just don't buy into a party that doesn't care about the middle class, women, and minorities.
Exactly. I think this exchange highlights the differences pretty well. - grits

There will always be people with less, due to a variety of circumstances. Either you see yourself as their victim (your taxes are spent support them) or as their neighbor (your taxes are spent for the necessities of civilized life).

That's simplistic and broad-brush (and duh, the system needs work), but I choose the latter view.
Romney won the married vote, but... - Rainwoman

Romney won in the states with the lowest proportion of college grads and the highest proportion of people not paying taxes (the 47% he so arrogantly derided.) So something other than "growing up" was in play here. People naive enough to believe his ads maybe?

Some of you may be too young to remember the 1970s and the ERA.  You also may have never heard of Sonia Johnson, a Mormon women who was excommunicated from the Mormon church in the late 1970s for supporting the ERA and equal rights for women.  I had the occasion to speak with her after she wrote a book called "From Housewife to Heretic."  Anyway, long story short, I have firsthand experience as a former member of the Mormon church (and a very loyal, dedicated, and hardworking one ...

Just a question as I am interesting in hearing the positives on both sides.  Without saying negatives about the side you don't support.  Can you give me a reason(s) why I should vote for Obama or why I should vote for Romney.  I don't want to hear negativity about the other candidate, already read enough.  And if possible don't try and make up things like Romney will try and convert everyone to Mormon or Obama will save the planet and covert everyone to muslim. ...

allowing Syrian or other immigrants into our country along with how many of us want illegal aliens to remain in our country. I am sorry but this directly affects me as well as you. We don't have armed guards to protect us and our children, grandchildren, etc. They blame the elderly for sponging off of the younger ones when we earned our own SS and the congress spent all of that money. We should be repaid for that and most certainly not made to get less because of these immigrants. ...

Thought I Was Getting Married. Now Not So Sure.Aug 01, 2012
Been dating this guy 7 months.  Everything going great until recently when he told me a couple "white lies."  These were very insignificant, but still lies.  Let it go.  I complained to him that after about 5 months, the honeymoon was over.  We do not "date" anymore, even though we can both afford it.  I don't want to sound needy, but everything else seems to come before me, and we started spending less and less time together.  We discussed "pre-marital co ...
