I'm getting married on Halloween, October 31, 2009

Posted: Oct 12, 2009

Well, I have finally decided the time is right and am getting married on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 3 p.m.  Just a small gathering of about a dozen friends and family.

My dress is ordered (GORGEOUS!), our rings are ordered and should be ready next week, I've ordered my bouquet, a friend of ours is making a customized little box for her son (the ring-bearer) to carry, and their little 3 year old daughter will be our flower girl.  My daugher, age 20, is going to be my Maid of Honor.

With the economy the way it is, I am very pleased that (excluding the $100 house-call fee by the minister), I have managed to pull all of this off for under $250 (basically a day's work).

We're both SO excited and I've already got butterflies with the anticipation of it all.

Anyway, if anyone has any other cost-saving ideas for a wedding, please send them either by post or by email.  I can barely contain my excitement at this point.

Thanks, my fellow MTs for any idea you may have and send my way. Oh, BTW, no formal sit-down dinner.  Instead we are having assorted platters such as meat and chese and shrimp and fresh fruit and veggies with disposable yet somewhat attractive utensils.  We're having hte ceremony in our little apartment and, whether permitting, will have room for overflow.

TIA for any other cost-saving hints...I'm SO excited so if my posts begin to drive you insane, just let me know (but nicely, please!).

hubby and I got married in Las Vegas at one of the wedding chapels they have in the hotels there, only us 2 and the preacher, no guests. Daughter wonders why we did not get married here, she said she could not make it to the wedding there and I let her know she didn't make it to the first wedding. The weddings there run somewhere in the 200-300 range (not talking about those cheap Elvis type chapels) so we got what we wanted, small and inexpensive.

Congratulations! - Happy MT Robin

I don't actually have any suggestions as to how you could cut costs any further, because it sounds like you've done a marvelous job. I just wanted to say congratulations. I hope the day turns out to be everything you want and you have a very long, happy ride on cloud 9.

Halloween TVOct 23, 2009
I was just going through the tv listings looking for things this week that me and my kids can watch together.  I am a sucker for holiday tv around Halloween and Christmas time.  I can watch the same thing year after year and never get tired and this has been for almost 30 years of my life that I can remember!  Anyways, this year I am totally disappointed with the lineup.  The ABC family channel has their 13 Nights of Halloween but they are playing movies like The Goonies and ...

A Little Halloween TriviaNov 01, 2009
Here's a little Halloween trivia I heard in an interview...Actually about the movie "Halloween". The mask that the character Michael Myers wears.  Does anyone know whose face it really is.  I never realized this until I saw him interviewed.  It's.....William Shatner.   Now that kind of ruined everything cos we were watching the movie and DH felt the desire to use Captain Kirk's voice through the whole movie.  LOL ...

Halloween Costume IdeasOct 02, 2011
I'm looking for some halloween costume ideas for a party my DH and I have been invited to.  We'd like to dress as a couple, but we don't have to.  We're both on the plus size.  I'm a size 18 (I'm larger across the chest than anywhere) and my DH is a size 38/40 tall (he carries his weight in his tummy and across the chest). I picked up a pair of pleather pants for myself on a clearance rack and thought about going as Sandy from Grease and my hubs as D ...

Halloween Is Coming! Any Suggestions For Sep 27, 2014
stays on and doesn't sweat off after a night of dancing and partying?  (My face will be painted like a skull).  The costume store paint is greasy and smears off easily.   Right now I'm experimenting with white eyeliner (the stick kind you use on the lower lid water line) and so far, it stays on, but isn't as opaque as I'd like.  Have any of you done a successful skull-face makeup job that stayed on and didn't smear?   ...

Halloween Traditions/my Neighbor Told Me I'm Going ToOct 16, 2009
This is kind of a double post so I didn't take up board space!   FIRST:  I have a new neighbor and we had introduced herself when she moved in and we were all friendly.  I recently decorated for H-ween.  Nothing too much just a big lighted up pumpkin, an inflatable ghost, and a couple of those wind socks on the porch. Anyway yesterday her and a couple of her church girlfriends came over and knocked on my door.  I answered all polite and then she told me that H ...

Ideas For Quick At Home Halloween Snacks?Oct 31, 2009
Having 3 kids sleep over for Halloween, looking for something simple to make that is not too sweet. There's enough candy in the house, want to serve something simple but special that's not too hard to make. Having brain freeze! Looking forward to a fun, safe Halloween with movies, games and letting them pass out the candy after they go around a bit. No sickness yet, thank God, but a young girl in our NE state did die from H1N1 this week. Very sad. Lots of handwashing around here. ...

The New October Employment FiguresNov 05, 2010
U.S. employment increased more than expected last month as private companies hired workers at the fastest pace since April, offering more signs of an up-tick in a sluggish economy.  Employment in October was supported by the private service-providing employment, which jumped 154,000. Temporary help services, a harbinger of permanent hiring, increased 34,900 from 23,800 in September.   2010 has had more private job creation than during the entire 8 year tenure of George W. Bush.& ...

No Halloween Candy For You: N.D. Woman To Hand Out Letters To Fat KidsOct 31, 2013
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/oct/30/nd-woman-hand-out-fat-letters-instead-candy-hallow/ Happy Halloween (to those who celebrate it) When I saw this on the news I thought it was a joke at first. Okay, maybe this lady has a point but IMO she had 2 options: 1. Do not hand out anything. Turn your light off, lock the door, stay inside, and keep your mouth shut. They are not your kids. 2. Hand out healthy snacks or non-food items like festive Halloween pencils, erasers, spider ...

Terrorist Attacks For 2009 So FarDec 30, 2009
These are the "terrorist" attacks that took place in 2009. I put the word "terrorist" in quotes because most were minimal to no injuries or death and the first two are definitely questionable for being listed as terrorist attacks. . West Memphis, Arkansas, United States. Trent P. Pierce Chairman of the Arkansas State Medical Board was critically injured in a car bombing that occurred in his drive way. There are reports that he received serious injuries to his abdomen and face, ...

when a woman was told to take down her display of the American flag in a hospital because it offened her supervisor from Africa.  Now we have teenagers, at least one being half Hispanic himself, who got in trouble for wearing patriotic t-shirts and bandannas because it offended Hispanic students as it was Cinco De Mayo.  Then you have an incident where a student gets 3 days suspension for taking down the Mexican flag that was displayed in his school because it was higher than the Ameri ...

'Patriot' Hate Groups Grew By 244% In 2009.Mar 28, 2010
By Andrew McLemoreSaturday, March 27th, 2010 -- 6:25 pm Hatred is getting a lot of press this week as reports of violent harassment against Congressional Democrats continue to surface. It began last weekend with Tea Party activists shouting racist and bigoted comments at House Democrats during the final push for health care reform. But new research shows the Tea Party may be the nice guys amid soaring numbers of hate groups. An "astonishing" 363 anti-government or "Patriot" groups appeared in ...

Four Months? They Have Obstructed To Let People Suffer Since January 20, 2009Jun 15, 2012
HOST: Plenty of pundits, Rob, are suggesting that GOP lawmakers might be dragging their heels when it comes to trying to turn it around in fears that it might actually help the president. Are you buying that? GRAY: Well, I’m not buying that they’re dragging their heels. I am buying that they’re rooting against the economy somewhat because they think that the short-term pain of, you know, the next four months is much better than having additional four years of pain unde ...

Foreclosed On Or Refused Loan Modification In 2009 And 2010Apr 09, 2013
Just wanted to share some good news. If you applied for a loan modification and were refused one and/or were foreclosed on (or threatened with foreclosure) in 2009 or 2010 you are more than likely getting some restitution from your lender, anywhere from $500 to $125,000, depending on the circumstance. As part of the Independent Foreclosure Review, payments will start to be sent out on April 12th.  Go to http://www.occ.gov/topics/consumer-protection/foreclosure-prevention/correcting-for ...

By John ByrneFriday, February 12th, 2010 -- 9:45 am If no health care overhaul passes Congress, health insurers may be in for a windfall -- and one far larger that most Americans probably realize. According to a study by a pro-health reform group published Thursday, the nation's largest five health insurance companies posted a 56 percent gain in 2009 profits over 2008. The insurers including Wellpoint, UnitedHealth, Cigna, Aetna and Humana, which cover the majority of Americans with insur ...

IM GETTING MARRIED!!!Aug 25, 2010
First of all I can't believe it!  I was with my first long-term about 7 years.  I've been a single mother with three kids for awhile and boy have I struggled!  I finally found a man that accepts me as I am and treats my children like they were his own.  I just had to share it with someone because I'm kind of a shut in thanks to my job LOL!    So any ideas about a cheap wedding?  I have googled it up and down the internet.  I was thinking ...

Thought I Was Getting Married. Now Not So Sure.Aug 01, 2012
Been dating this guy 7 months.  Everything going great until recently when he told me a couple "white lies."  These were very insignificant, but still lies.  Let it go.  I complained to him that after about 5 months, the honeymoon was over.  We do not "date" anymore, even though we can both afford it.  I don't want to sound needy, but everything else seems to come before me, and we started spending less and less time together.  We discussed "pre-marital co ...

Married V Common LawFeb 24, 2014
I am just wondering, kinda want input here, perspectives or views...   I recently met a couple, new to our neighborhood.  The woman has 2 grown kids from her first marriage and 2 grandchildren.  The man has no biological children, but loves her grandchildren very much, it is very obvious.   They seem to be normal, hard-working folks, have a very nice house and nice cars, travel a lot...   They have been together for 22 years and are not "legally married".& ...

Prediction: Not An October Surprise, But A November Surprise.Sep 09, 2016
My analysis showed Trump ahead by 3 points until the last week and now show 7 points. The "traditional" polling methods are not valid in this election and a lot of people are going to be gobsmacked. I predict that Trump will win the popular vote by at least 9 points and will win the electoral college. (Guess what? The Clinton campaign is starting to think the same.) ...

Married, Do You File Separate?Apr 06, 2013
I might write some more about this later on but just now am wondering about the above. I have been married over 10 years now but questioning about doing the above for this next year. Long story so will not go into it at this late hour tonight. If you file separate, any advantages or disadvantages. I always thought better for a couple to file together but.... like I said more later. What about deductions, who would take those or?
