IM GETTING MARRIED!!!

Posted: Aug 25, 2010

First of all I can't believe it!  I was with my first long-term about 7 years.  I've been a single mother with three kids for awhile and boy have I struggled!  I finally found a man that accepts me as I am and treats my children like they were his own.  I just had to share it with someone because I'm kind of a shut in thanks to my job LOL!

So any ideas about a cheap wedding?  I have googled it up and down the internet.  I was thinking something outside and probably potluck.  I live in Tennessee though and the weather isn't so predictable here!  Thanks everyone for letting me share my news!!!!

Congratulations!!!! :) - mtstudent

Oh great news. I am originally from North Carolina, so am happy to hear a southern girl like me found true love. I did too, and it is great having a good husband for sure. Just buy things, whatever you buy, at a good discounted place. And remember it is mostly about the two of you and not the things at the wedding itself. Congrats to you both and your families, and your three babies.

Congratulations! - Happy MT Robin

I actually just went to a wedding that they had done very nicely on a shoestring. I couldn't stay for teh reception, so I don't know how they did that, but for the invitations, they got some colored laser cut card stock in one size, smaller stock with the same laser cut pattern on the edges in white and printed the invitation out on that and then pasted it to the larger piece of paper. I don't know if that makes sense. The invitation I got had a cut out of the newspaper announcement of the engagement in it. It was really well done and I know it didn't cost them an arm and a leg like "formal" invitations will.

You dont' need to do a big meal if you're on a really tight budget. Punch and cake and nuts or something like that is just fine for an informal reception. I had a friend do that at her daughter's wedding. They had the reception in one of the big rooms at the church where the ceremony was held. Sherry said when the nuts and cake were gone, the the reception was over. It worked very well.

Have fun with it!

We decided to get married at City Hall when we got our license and have a BIG reception catered with Mexican and Italian food for all of our family and friends. The money we saved on a fancy ceremony was put towards the reception, and everyone had a fantastic time.

We figure maybe in a year or two, when we're more financially fluid, we can have a re-do of the vows in front of the same family and friends who came to our reception.

The important thing is, it's not the cost of the ceremony...It's the happiness that follows afterwards, lol!

Just wanted to say I am very happy for you and your kids. If it is the right partner it can certainly enrich one's life. Again, great news!

Congrats. It is hard to find someone that treats your kids like his own. Hold onto that guy and don't let him go. I have been married for 33 years and a good guy is hard to find nowadays. I live in the Knoxville, Tenn area so yes the weather is very unpredictable. Of course Gatlinburg is a great place. They have many wedding chapels that include everything at very reasonable prices. My son is getting married next year in October I think. They have not set an official date yet. They want to have their wedding on a farm. We are looking at The Museum of Appalachian. It is a working farm too so lots of things there for great pictures. They can do outdoor weddings and inside a log church and they also have a banquet hall there on the spot. Receptions inside or outside if the weather does not cooperate. They have a huge fall Old Timers Homecoming every year and it is close to our home. I think he is going to be a groomzilla. I would also include the children in the wedding so they will feel important. My son is getting in the fall so we all were thinking of having a BBQ Theme for Reception and decorate with the fall colors and pumpkins. Weddings can be stressful, but also fun too. Best of luck at whatever you find.

Thought I Was Getting Married. Now Not So Sure.Aug 01, 2012
Been dating this guy 7 months.  Everything going great until recently when he told me a couple "white lies."  These were very insignificant, but still lies.  Let it go.  I complained to him that after about 5 months, the honeymoon was over.  We do not "date" anymore, even though we can both afford it.  I don't want to sound needy, but everything else seems to come before me, and we started spending less and less time together.  We discussed "pre-marital co ...

Married V Common LawFeb 24, 2014
I am just wondering, kinda want input here, perspectives or views...   I recently met a couple, new to our neighborhood.  The woman has 2 grown kids from her first marriage and 2 grandchildren.  The man has no biological children, but loves her grandchildren very much, it is very obvious.   They seem to be normal, hard-working folks, have a very nice house and nice cars, travel a lot...   They have been together for 22 years and are not "legally married".& ...

Married, Do You File Separate?Apr 06, 2013
I might write some more about this later on but just now am wondering about the above. I have been married over 10 years now but questioning about doing the above for this next year. Long story so will not go into it at this late hour tonight. If you file separate, any advantages or disadvantages. I always thought better for a couple to file together but.... like I said more later. What about deductions, who would take those or? No young children in the picture here and we have taken itemized in ...

Married For 15 Years And Husband And I HaveMay 18, 2015
Watching a show this morning and the 5 women were talking about being married, having joint accounts, some liked, some didn't. Up front will state that our names, husband and mine, are on each other's accounts just in case but we have our own separate accounts, banking, checking, savings. I have no idea what he has in his and he in mine. I do not care what he makes nor what he spends and I think he feels the same as I am concerned. When we get a big bill we pay for the year. This inclu ...

Well, I have finally decided the time is right and am getting married on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 3 p.m.  Just a small gathering of about a dozen friends and family.  My dress is ordered (GORGEOUS!), our rings are ordered and should be ready next week, I've ordered my bouquet, a friend of ours is making a customized little box for her son (the ring-bearer) to carry, and their little 3 year old daughter will be our flower girl.  My daugher, age 20, is going to be my Mai ...

Married And Lonely... Thinking Of Doing The UnthinkableMay 06, 2011
Oh, I so know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I need to say it anyway.  I've been married over 25 years.  Husband and I get along okay most of the time, but sex life has never ever been of the very frequent type.  I'm sure he thinks it's all me, and maybe it is much of the time.  I think part of that is because, you know, if you don't have time for me all day and all evening or any other time, I don't feel all that warmed up to you just bec ...

Romney Won The Married People VoteNov 12, 2012
Hmmmm....that suggests to me that when people grow up, get married, have a family, they see life from a conservative standpoint--work hard, pay taxes, etc. When they were younger they might have been living for the moment and voted accordingly. IMHO. ...

Need To Vent - Maybe I Have Been Married Too Long To Understand....Feb 27, 2014
I recently talked to a young man who got married in December 2012.  They keep mentioning they never got to be newlyweds.  I am sorry but i dont understand - they got a 1 week honeymoon, came home to their own apartment, then 3 months ago decided to move back in with his parents to "save money, pay off bills, and get a fresh start"  Ummm you only been married 9 months - and one of you came into the relationship with bad credit - these are young people 25 and 26.  Now living wi ...

Moms Of Married Grown KidsJul 14, 2014
I am the mother of grown kids. My son is married x11 years, has a 6 year old. He and his wife are having problems because her caught her cheating. They are trying to work through it, but he was a preteen when my own marriage fell apart due to my ex's repeated cheating. Since this is his wife's second time cheating, he feels that they are done and is just trying to be civil until their situations get settled (separate living places, custory, finances and all that stuff...). I still spe ...
