Muscle Spasms and muscle pain

Posted: Aug 17, 2011

About 6 -8 weeks ago I started getting muscle spasms. Day and night all different areas, feet, fingers, calves, thighs, neck, diaphragm. I started drinking more water, taking potassium, drinking gatorade, etc.  Nothing seemed to help. Day by day they got worse and my strength was diminishing; all I wanted to do was sit or lay down. Slept all the time. So I finally drug myself to the doc, told him all my symptoms and that it was almost like I was lacking something in my system. He did lab work and my muscle enzymes came back slightly elevated. So he started me on muscle relaxants and I went back a week later...nothing had changed so he put me on Prednisone (which I have now finished) and he drew more blood to check the enzyme levels for change. OK that was almost 3 weeks ago, I still have not heard about the lab results (one thing I don't like about this doc, other than his not returning phone calls I love his bedside manner). So my question is, has anyone else had anything like this and if so did you get a diagnosis or what if anything corrected the problem?  This really stinks....I had so many things I wanted to get done this summer and all I do is sit or lay around.  I don't want to keep paying co-pays if I am not getting any results. TIA for your thoughts.

I do this daily - but I have fibromyalgia AND myofascial pain syndrome - I have learned to deal with it.

It's just something I have learned to deal with on a daily basis. The fatigue, pain, and muscle spasms are a part of my life on a daily basis. I take medication to try and control symptoms. I would suggest if it keeps up that you see a rheumatologist. Good luck to you.

sounds like side effects of statin drugs. - i stopped taking them

and my joint and muscle pains miraculously went away! Hope this helps. If not, I wish you luck with finding the problem.

Muscle spasm/pain - merrymt

I was experiencing a lot of similar symtpoms last year... muscle spasms/pain/horrible fatigue. Docs couldn't figure out what was going on, so I took my husband's rec. and saw his chiropractor. Turned out my spine was so twisted and compressed and out of alignment that it was triggering my issues. I was under regular treatment for three months and now just have to go once every month or two...usually when I start to get really, really tired again, I know it's time for another adjustment.
Obviously, I don't know if this will ultimately help you or not, but it's worth a shot right?

Have you gotten any relief? - alana

I had lots of trigger points that were misdiagnosed. Someone I met via sciencebasedmedicine dot org linked me to the site below:

Sore Muscle Aug 17, 2012
I've had a very sore muscle in my upper arm for the past few days, I think from lifting heavy groceries.  I can't rest it much because it's pretty busy now with work, so have to type through the pain..  We don't get any PTO.  Just wondering, is heat or cold better for healing sore muscles?  I've just been putting Tiger Balm patches on it..  Thanks for any ideas.  ...

Larger Muscle On Top Of Foot From Work? SmNov 19, 2015
The muscle on top of my right foot is enlarged.  I had thought for years that it was from years of doing transcription.   I transcribed 15 years and have been doing another type of job for two years, but the muscle is still enlarged. I am now starting to worry about leiomyosarcomas and crazy things like that.  It would be reassuring if other transcriptionists have noticed the same muscle enlargement in their "work foot."  ?? ...

Senate Democrats Muscle Big Obama Donors Into AmbassadorshipsDec 03, 2014
In one of their final acts before losing their majority to Republicans, Senate Democrats confirmed as ambassadors on Tuesday two big donors to President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign, despite a controversy overtheir qualifications. David Bryson Mamet won confirmation as envoy to Argentina in a 50-43 vote, while senators agreed 52-42 to send Colleen Bell on her way to Hungary. No Republicans voted for either nominee, and several senators misse ...

Spasms In Face, No Help From Medical PersonnelOct 28, 2009
I have these spasms going on. First had botox injections which gave the impression of perhaps having had stroke on one side of my face. Those really lasted about 1 day as far as taking away the spasms, the lack of facial expression went on for about 4 months. Other day went to another neurologist and prescribed benzodiazepines, taken those for 2 days now and see absolutely no improvement. Has anyone else had these and if so, what worked for you? ...

Hey, m'lovely MT sisters, I suspect I have bursitis in my right shoulder.  It started as pain in my right arm biceps area and I had an odd rash in the area, so to be honest I was afraid it might have been shingles (never had them, but heard they're very painful). Ladies, it's been about 6 weeks and it's still freakling painful, but I believe I was wrong on precisely where the pain was originating.  I believe it's emanating at my right shoulder joint.  I&# ...

Old MT/QA With PainMay 13, 2010
I have been an MT/QA for 24 years.  I have fibromyalgia, arthritis, have had bilateral carpal tunnel release, and I have cervical impingement.  I tried a new product called Evolv enhanced water beverage which has a formula called Archaea Active.  It claims to "promote a healthy inflammatory response."  Honestly, I was skeptical about it, but I am here to testify that this is truly a Godsend!!  It was explained to me that it increases oxygen at the cellular level and ...

Leg PainDec 05, 2013
For the last couple weeks, whenever I go to bed, if I am on my back or side, I awaken several times with pain in my right calf and knee, if I turn on my stomach it goes away.  The first couple hours I am up in the morning it is painful, cannot put my right leg over my left, cannot cross my leg to put on my shoes because it immediately causes a sharp pain to shoot through my leg.  Cannot bend over because of the same.  After moving around about two hours it is okay pretty much the ...

Pain At The PumpMar 01, 2012
Do you ever wonder why the gas prices are up and down?  There is still about the same amount of gas out there (although it is a finite resouce that is going away) and we are still using about the same, more or less, with our more efficient vehicles. The price fluctuates because the Wall Street traders can make it fluctuate.  They do this so they can make money.  In 2008, (Bush Administration, by the way) the prices were over $4.00 a gallon.  The Obama administratio ...

Pain In ShinsJun 02, 2011
Hi.  I actually have a health question related to transcribing!  I've transcribed for over 25 years and have had no problems other than tight neck and shoulders; no hand, wrist or arm pain.  Recently my company changed from cassettes to digital, so I'm using a sllightly different type of food pedal.  I can't believe this would make a difference, but I don't know what else could cause this problem ... shin pain.  Firs ...

Wrist Pain, Not CTSDec 25, 2010
I'm once again having wrist pain in my dominant hand which is worse at the end of my shift.  I took a week off to completely rest it and it helps, but it still hurts whenever I most my thumb, at the base into the top of the radius.  Does anyone have this problem?  I had carpal tunnel surgery 10 years ago, but don't have the same numbness as I did before that surgery.  I tried switching my mouse to the left hand, but it still hurts especially whenever I use the space ...

I participated in water aerobics and about a week later woke up with a painful boob and this has been going on for about 4-5 days.  So, I'm thinking I pulled something. Never had this before.  Now, I am obese so the boobs are more like jugs.  Aso for the past month I have been taking those raspberry ketone pills as seen on Doc Oz, and noticed they were working, with a loss of tummy fat and my boops-while they did not shrink-they more like 'emptied ou ...

Inner Ankle PainJun 13, 2013
Hi all, For the last 2 years or so I have been suffering from right inner ankle pain.  It has progressively gotten more and more painful.  I have had x-rays and it shows nothing is wrong.  I am pretty sure it's has to be posterior tibialis tendinitis, but now it's starting on the left ankle.  When I rotate my right ankle in a circle, I can feel a popping sensation that doesn't really feel like it's bone, but it is so terribly sore.  I wondered if may ...

Knee PainJun 20, 2013
Have been told by orthopod that I have bone-on-bone in my right knee.  He suggested surgery and gave me Tramadol for the pain.  Surgery is not an option financially at this time.  I have been losing weight in order to take some of  the pressure off.  I cannot take the Tramadol and work because it makes me sleepy.    Cannot take NSAIDs because of the GI side effects. Any suggestions on how to deal? TIA ...

I am curious if anyone has a suggestions for ear pain.  I wear the earbuds that sit just inside the ear canal for work.  The earphones that would sit over my ear hurt my ears on the back side when they pushed against my glasses arm.    Lately I have had terrible itching of the outer ear canal, and a plugged/pressure sensation of the inner ear.    Any suggestions would be helpful :) ...

Had First Eye Done But In Lots Of PainJul 18, 2016
Well had the first cataract done today. In lots of pain today. I didn't know it would be this bad or I might have reconsidered having it done. Neighbor is putting my drops in though most people I talk with do it themselves. He was adamant. I hope I will be able to do it myself tomorrow. Please pray this pain goes away and the healing comes quickly. Anyway, the anesthesiologist prayed for me before we started. I appreciated that and was quite surprised. I hope I can drive myself p ...
