Pinched nerve in shoulder blade with pain in shoulder, radiating down arm and numbness and tingling

Anyone ever have a pinched nerve in shoulder blades from overuse with typing??  If so, how did you treat and survive?  So much pain.

In the shoulder blade?

I have had the pain in the arm and numbness and tingling, and it comes from the neck. I see a chiropractor on a regular basis, probably about every couple months. Try a massage. Try a new position in your chair, making sure the chair is indeed ergonomically correct, take some of the pressure on off the elbows that can cause some pain. You are probably hunched up with your shoulders up around the ears? Need to relax and get in a good position. Cold packs and hot packs. I don't take much pain meds as I just see the chiro once it starts, but the massages are great.

What I do - sm - - some of what the OP says, too.

Use a tennis ball between your shoulder blade and the wall. Creep it up and down around the scapula slowly. It really helps.

Get rid of any arms on your work chair.

Practice sitting with your arm hanging at your side completely free then slowly stretch your neck by turning your head the opposite direction and holding then bring your head front then to the other side and hold.

In bed, support your arm, elbow and hand with pillows. For me, out away from my body helps most.

Sometimes during work, to get relief I hold my arm up over my head, resting my hand behind my neck for a few minutes.

BIL Suffering Pain, Numbness, Tingling In HandsAug 31, 2015
My SIL called me tonight. Her husband has had prostate cancer and went thru chemo and irradiation. He is taking Gabapentin, Lyrica and for the pain Oxycodone. He is having the tingling, burning, pins and needles in his hands/feet and almost unable to walk because of these issues. HE is somewhat okay as long as he is taking the Oxycodone, once that wears off he is back to his almost immobile state. I told his wife I would get on line to see if any others in our field has dealt with similar issues ...

Extreme Shoulder Pain Since Working VRFeb 15, 2012
After 20 years MTing, my wrist and hand pain disappeared after starting editing versus transcribing.  But now both shoulders ache and I have pain on lifting above head.  The pain makes it difficult to sleep due to shoulder aching, both sides.  Anyone else experienced this or am I just getting old age.  I do not play sports or do anything else extreme with my arms.   ...

Severe Shoulder Pain, Does This Sound Like SomethingNov 13, 2012
anyone else has heard of or perhaps had, needing some input. I know we are not doctors but we hear and type so much that someone might have heard of similar. No arthritis, nothing else diagnosed except have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the past although this is 1 spot. I had EKGs, x-rays, have been given Flexeril, anti-inflammatories, Medrol Dose-Pak, pain pills, have been to P ...

I Need A Shoulder To Cry On (long Vent)Jan 10, 2012
I am sitting here so depressed. I have two adult daughters and five grandkids. My oldest daughter is a widow (her husband was killed in Afghanistan in 2005) with two kids. She is a professional photographer. She took a picture of my other daughter and her kids which I fell in love with and when I asked her if I could have one, she said the price is $80 (black and white, 8 x 10). Needless to say with my lowly wages as a transcriptionist I could not afford it. She has become miss high and mighty e ...

Loose Body In Shoulder JointJan 10, 2012
I woke up 2 days ago with the worst shoulder pain ever and went to the doc where he did an x-ray. It showed  I have a loose body in the joint space. He gave me Tramadol and told me to use ice and heat and maybe it would calm down on its own. Otherwise, he said he would refer me to an orthopedist for shoulder arthroscopy and loose body removal. He is very conservative (he knows this), but I would like to know if anyone has had this and if the loose body does ever work its way back to whereve ...

Question Regarding Any MT Having Right Shoulder Problems TypingJul 07, 2010
Hi all:  Has anyone had trouble with right shoulder hurting, burning type pain, tired, feeling like your arm is going to fall off and making right triceps weak after sitting at the computer so long.   I have been to doc twice, on pain pills, muscle relaxers, NSAID, hot tub for muscle soreness.  I have not been to the neurosurgeon yet.  I think it is a pinched nerve causing this as I searched symptoms on line and this is pretty close to what I am having.  Driving me ...

Extreme Fatigue, Tingling In Back, Back Pain Mar 05, 2013
I know it is the most common complaint doctors hear - and for years I have had the stressed-tired-overworked fatigue - I know how that one feels.  But this has been going on a couple of months.  I am bone tired even after I sleep a lot.  My blood work showed I am hypothyroid so I started on medicine and also some supplements for that.  But nothing seems to be helping.  I have pain/fatigue across the area of my back right at the braline.  My arms and neck feel heavy. ...

Some Nerve!Mar 29, 2011
So, DH and I went to the doc's office today for his schedule appointment.  he has had a nasty case of bronchitis this spring.  Well, he went on ahead and registered, got all the paper work done and didn't have to wait long and they called him back.  I had gone to say hello to one of the gals there that I know and when I went to the waiting room, DH was not there.  I assumed he had been called back so went to chat with my friend some more. Fast forward to this after ...

Anyone Ever Have Sciatic Nerve ProblemDec 11, 2009
The reason I ask is my sister told me tonight that she thinks she needs to see a neurosurgeon as she had a pinched nerve/sciatica lasting longer than a month and now she has charley horses from the knee up and are like knots in the leg.  If she sneezes she can feel a muscle pulling and feels it when trying to get up.  She has trouble sleeping and can't find a position, and has pain when sitting.   What kind of doctor would you suggest?  Someone told her chiro, I think ...

Does Anyone Have Ulnar Nerve Compression?Oct 22, 2010
I have been an MT for over 20 years and in the past three months developed shoulder pain and numbness/tingling in my pinky and ring fingers all the time to where I cannot type well any longer.  Dr. said it was ulnar nerve compression and recommended surgery after conservative treatment did not help.  Surgery was three weeks ago and symptoms have not improved at all.  I am 54 and if I am unable to work as an MT any longer I don't know what to do.  Any suggestions would be ...

Indiana Michigan Power has requested permission from the state to raise overall electric rates 14 percent due to the environmental mandates placed by the EPA.  "All electric utility providers, including I&M, are facing “a multitude of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations” that include rules to cut emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides as well as rules to control coal ash handling and disposal, and to regulate water usage and discharge from power p ...

PainJan 25, 2010
Hey, m'lovely MT sisters, I suspect I have bursitis in my right shoulder.  It started as pain in my right arm biceps area and I had an odd rash in the area, so to be honest I was afraid it might have been shingles (never had them, but heard they're very painful). Ladies, it's been about 6 weeks and it's still freakling painful, but I believe I was wrong on precisely where the pain was originating.  I believe it's emanating at my right shoulder joint.  I&# ...

Old MT/QA With PainMay 13, 2010
I have been an MT/QA for 24 years.  I have fibromyalgia, arthritis, have had bilateral carpal tunnel release, and I have cervical impingement.  I tried a new product called Evolv enhanced water beverage which has a formula called Archaea Active.  It claims to "promote a healthy inflammatory response."  Honestly, I was skeptical about it, but I am here to testify that this is truly a Godsend!!  It was explained to me that it increases oxygen at the cellular level and ...

Leg PainDec 05, 2013
For the last couple weeks, whenever I go to bed, if I am on my back or side, I awaken several times with pain in my right calf and knee, if I turn on my stomach it goes away.  The first couple hours I am up in the morning it is painful, cannot put my right leg over my left, cannot cross my leg to put on my shoes because it immediately causes a sharp pain to shoot through my leg.  Cannot bend over because of the same.  After moving around about two hours it is okay pretty much the ...

Pain At The PumpMar 01, 2012
Do you ever wonder why the gas prices are up and down?  There is still about the same amount of gas out there (although it is a finite resouce that is going away) and we are still using about the same, more or less, with our more efficient vehicles. The price fluctuates because the Wall Street traders can make it fluctuate.  They do this so they can make money.  In 2008, (Bush Administration, by the way) the prices were over $4.00 a gallon.  The Obama administratio ...

Pain In ShinsJun 02, 2011
Hi.  I actually have a health question related to transcribing!  I've transcribed for over 25 years and have had no problems other than tight neck and shoulders; no hand, wrist or arm pain.  Recently my company changed from cassettes to digital, so I'm using a sllightly different type of food pedal.  I can't believe this would make a difference, but I don't know what else could cause this problem ... shin pain.  Firs ...

Leg Pain When Doing TypingJan 25, 2011
Does anyone else get leg cramping/aching while they type?? I used to get them when I started and then it went away, but lately its been getting me again especially in my upper outer thigh. Wrist Pain, Not CTSDec 25, 2010
