Any experienced Wal-Mart Thanksgiving Thursday Shoppers?

Posted: Nov 14, 2014

Has anyone done the Wal-Mart Thanksgiving Thursday sale where they say the item is One-hour guarantee?  I have read online that if they don't have the product in the store that they will ship it to you before Christmas, but my question is this.  If I am standing in the line at 6 p.m. and the one-hour guarantee ends at 7 then what if it is a slow person checking you out, if you are in the line, do you get the product, or if the line is super long should I just give up the quest to obtain my item.  Thanks for any help, I'm trying my best to save money on these high dollar gifts my kids want for Christmas.

How about reminding the kids what Christmas is really about and forget the gifts and put money away to pay bills instead?

Teach your children that life is not all about having high dollar gifts.

I'll send my kids that are 12, 23 and 25 over to talk about never getting Christmas gifts, but instead giving to those less fortunate and working food kitchens during the holidays.

They will tell you and yours how much more they got from that than any high dollar gift I could have given them.

I would rather have my fingernails pulled out - than enter a Walmart @ Xmas time! :(

I have always given my children elaborate Christmas gifts, but that doesn't mean they don't know the beauty of giving, because they absolutely do. I have children that will give to others in a heartbeat, they have great compassion for people as well as animals and I am very proud of what they have become. I never put off bills for Christmas, I work harder, make more money and have extra money put aside to spend on them and I don't believe there is anything wrong with that whatsoever.

Christmas is about giving - sm

And it kills me when people take the attitude that if you give gifts to your children you are spoiling them or you should give to those less fortunate. The season is about GIVING in general. If a parent chooses to give to their child, then wonderful. Who says the same parent doesn't give to those less fortunate all year as well?

You see the movies where you have this kid who owns EVERYTHING and the end of the movie always has the kid realizing he would be happier to give to others. Not all of us live in that fantasy world though. When I was growing up, there were two times per year that I could actually ask for and receive something I wanted and that was Christmas and my birthday. I didn't have tons of toys or live the life of luxury, but I could look forward to those two occasions. My family also gave to different places for kids during the holidays as well, so I knew the importance of that. I have raised my children the exact same way. I don't think there is a thing in the world wrong with giving to your children and the fact that my husband and I don't buy gifts for each other, only for the kids and a few other family members, it shows them how we put others first and their wants/needs before our own.

I agree, my kids only get toys/gifts 2 times a year--sm - anon

Their birthdays or Christmas. If they want something during the rest of the year, they need to do chores to earn it. The exceptions are craft supplies or books.

My kids work at our church's food pantry year round, stuff stockings for a local charity, volunteer their time in a myriad of ways, etc. It is wonderful to give and it is also wonderful to receive. Kids need to be taught how to do both well and graciously.

to prove what Christmas is really all about. After faithfully going to church for years I have lost my son. I no longer believe so Christmas will be extremely hard this year. I will be lucky if I make it to the new year.

somehow. I knew my ex would stop at nothing, but silly me I always thought being a good mom, not being abusive to him or neglectful, not drinking even socially or doing drugs and working at home all were signs I would never lose him. Judges in the deep south really DO suck!! I hate to think of the lies my ex told him:(
When you said lost him I thought you meant he died - you scared me to death, lady
[ In Reply To ..]
there is hope as long as he is alive.
You and I both thought the same, he had - died
[ In Reply To ..]
Another thing, most judges do not award the children to the fathers (noticed the crack about the southern judge) unless there are really good reasons. There is some underlying reason, something, that a child is taken away rather than returned to the mother. I do not believe for one moment it is just the judge, never.
Wow!! I was coming here to explain but I do not think I will now to such rude - sm

trolls!! I will NEVER see him again and YES THERE IS A REASON. My ex is SATAN AND LIED. I NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO EXPLAIN MY SIDE. JUDGE ALL YOU WANT. YOU WILL ROT IN HELL TOO BOTH OF YOU RUDE TROLLS WILL!!!!!
Maybe the judge saw you had what seems - like anger issues
[ In Reply To ..]
because your post is really out there. Every other word capped is yelling.
Both you and the troll below REALLY need to think before you spout - sm

such hateful things. I am getting ready to sign myself in to a hospital due to the severe depression and anxiety because my ex who DOES DRUGS AND DRINKS AND CUSSES AT MY SON lied to my attorney, his attorney AND the judge. There is NO Way a "judge" would think that is a stable home compared to a GOOD MOM WHO DOES NOT DRINK OR YELL OR DO DRUGS and was going to take my son FAR AWAY from an abusive father. SHAME ON YOU NBOTH!!! I HOPE YOU HAVE HORRIBLE NIGHTMARES TONIGHT!!! BOTH OF YOU PATHETIC EXCUSES FOR HUMANS. YOU ARE WORMS!!!!!!!
You don't sound so stable or happy yourself. sm - ummmm
[ In Reply To ..]
In fact, you're on this board screaming at us. I also thought you meant your son was DEAD because you said you "lost your son".

I think perhaps his father was the lesser of 2 evils?
Unfortunately - Mary

1. You say you don't yell, but typing in caps is yelling, and I am sure you are aware of that.

2. You have completely lost your temper on an online message board saying some incredibly horrible things to people you don't even know.

3. You said you didn't know if you would make it to 2015, which is an understated threat of suicide. Yet, you wonder why a judge might consider you to be mentally unstable.

4. You apparently have no insight into your problems. That does not affect us (on this board) in any way, but it apparently is having a significant impact on your life. Get some help, which we all often need.

4. The judge may have indeed made the best decision for your son's sake.

5. Now go ahead and get angry with me. Water off a duck's back. Many of us on this board just like to tell it like it is, as blunt and honest as that may be. We aren't worried about hurting your feelings.

Get a copy of the film called "Walmart: The High Cost of Low Prices." I will not shop there for any reason. I think it is immoral to save money off some poor person's back. I know people who have worked at WM and you should hear the things they have to say. Nope, I don't want to be a party to that kind of abuse.

Walmart pays its workers slave wages, doesn't - give them T-giving off. BOYCOTT!!!

slave wages? - Sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I live in a very small town and my niece works at Wal-Mart. She has been working there 3 years and she makes $12 per hour. That is nowhere near slave wages, especially for the small town that we live in, that is actually a very good salary. She also sometimes gets bonus checks quarterly, depending on how their sales are. The media hype regarding Wal-Mart is that since Wal-Mart makes so much that if employees were paid according to that, they would make a lot more. I agree, but that is with any company. We know that the top guys get all the money and the workers just get the smallest of cuts, but that is sadly how it goes. As far as working holidays, many places make you work holidays, even MT companies do that and MT companies actually DO pay below minimum wage many times, so I think that is really a ridiculous statement.

Watch Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price - eye opening

[ In Reply To ..]
I worked there during college and that documentary is spot on. They are sexist and racist and pay minimum wage. I have never seen a black floor manager or a female store manager. My aunt is still a pharmacist there and she absolutely hates it but she stays because she likes her schedule. She's crazy to stay, in my opinion.
Well, I have seen African-American and female--sm - anon

management at our store. Wal-Mart does not always have the lowest prices but I have not seen anything to indicate that any of the other stores such as Target are treating their employees much better. While I would love to be able to go to Whole Foods where I know employees generally make more, it is unfortunately beyond my budget. It is sad to say, but often those working at Wal-Mart are making more per hour than I am with MT work.

I think there are 2 views to having Thanksgiving off--sm - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I think there are definitely some workers who want the holiday off but there is also a contingent of workers who are happy for the extra pay that they receive that day. I know that in the Mt world, when the holiday pay actually meant something, I loved working holidays so I could get the extra money. Now that it is so little, my feelings are not as positive.

No, no, no. I think you've got it wrong. - IMANMT2

the line you get in is around the display (It will be wrapped in plastic) if it is a good buy, get there early. You stand in line to get the item and put in your basket if they run out they give you a tag/card to take to the check out AFTER you've done your other shopping to pay for it. I'm prett sure after. Isn't that right? If you got the item you'd put it in your basket. So, the card goes in your purse it has a bar code on it like the item would have. I got a TV last year and it was delivered to the store different brand but really the same type of brand phillips and I got an LG I think.

But if you are going to shop for other, you need to go early and walk around the store and see where everything is - especially toys they can be anywhere and THE MAPS ARE USUALLY WRONG and the workers might not be a lot of help.

small appliances are devastated in minutes, laptops not so much.

I got 2 tablets last year, in line but they didn't do coupons when they are out they are out. You have to read the paper. The TV was a one-hour sale or something that's why I got a certificate thing. Thos will be staggered and scattered all over. I almost didn't get the camera because i kept going back to electronics and it was in the "action lane" by frozen food. Go figure. no one could help me. another shopper helped me.

Black Friday is fun I buy stuff i don't need/want. I ran out of room in my basket last year and had to stop. If I had had a kid with me while I was in line I would have sent them running.

Alas, I will not be participating this year. I'll be lucky if I get a check I've been waiting 60 days on tomorrow. I'll be lucky if I can keep the electric on. I'll say one thing, her stall tactics and excuses are getting better and better. She has a friend at the post office because my last check the stamp wasn't cancelled. I'm using it again. too. Such is life on MT.

This whole pseudoreligious corporate pick pocketing makes me vomit.

If you really are a Christian, what does a low price on an iPad have to do with your holiday?

BTW, I'm an atheist and will never fall for that mumbo jumbo, religious, corporate, or otherwise.

Dont shop at Walmart period. You are contributing to employers like - MModal who don't give a flip about

A Tip For AliExpress Shoppers...Aug 10, 2015
If you've shopped AliExpress, you'll know two things: 1.  There are a lot of merchants selling identical merchandise. 2.  Shipping can take forever, and sometimes it isn't free. But not necessarily so, my little minions!  When you see that something you want is sold by multiple merchants, if there isn't another consideration such as a significant difference in price, look for merchants offering free shipping via E-packet.  In my experience, delivery by ...
