BIL going thru radiation and fatigue, eating issues

Posted: Mar 15, 2015

that I could pass on to him. I will tell him first to check with his doctor but he is feeling so fatigued with the treatments is talking about what would happen if he gives up on them. I have had no one really close to go through treatments but others here might have and just asking for anything that would be helpful to him. He told my husband no one had said anything about how bad he would feel so any kind of help would be appreciated. ;

Radiation - Blossom

I had to get 45 shots of radiation a number of years ago on my neck, chest and stomach after I finished 6 months of chemo first (Hodgkin's lymphoma). I hated to even drink water. Everything would hurt so bad after the radiation. I had to take anti-nausea medicine in order to eat. Could not keep anything down. After I finished all the treatments, I was so tired, I could not get out of bed. I used Sea Kelp tablets that my friend told me about and that helped within 2 weeks. I got my energy back. I got them from the local Natural Health Store. I still take them to this day. I only take 1 a day. I hope this helps him somehow and I hope he keeps up the fight. I will remember him in my prayers.

For Nausea - anon

I hate to say this because I don't know where you are with this, but medical marijuana will help with the nausea and the inability to eat and keep anything down. This really works, but is just a suggestion. Prayers, and good luck!

Am on same page as you are with the medical - pot and Blossom, thank you

so much for the information. It is being forwarded to him and knowing he is a health food junkie, hopefully he will get this ASAP and it will help. I live in Georgia where some families are desperately trying to get medical marijuana for their children suffering seizures, for people with cancer, for people who have horrible pain, terminal cases and these b..... seem to be standing in the way of something that is proven to help. I just don't get it. My BIL is in Florida and don't know their laws there but where there is a demand it is obtainable. Will forward what you have sent.

I agree - sm

My father in law had cancer and couldn't eat, had nausea, etc. Well, we just went out and picked him up some pot from some friends we knew and he smoked it and felt WONDERFUL. He was eating more than he had eaten in months and it really worked for him.

And he doesn't have to smoke it, there are edibles that are sm - suggesting

are standardized as far as the "dosage" of THC in the food.

where is the radiation being directed on his body? - sm

Are the eating issues related to the radiation?

I was wrong about the radiation, he is getting - chemo

[ In Reply To ..]
He is receiving the chemo thru a port in his arm and said something about some kind of home chemo with treatment about his abdominal area, not sure what that is. He has eating issues related to the taste of the food (metallic tasting). I think his biggest complaint is extreme fatigue.

Extreme Fatigue SmAug 24, 2011
Does anyone else suffer from extreme fatigue?  I'm so tired I can't even type.  Just walking a few steps is tiring.   Some days are better than others.  I have a hard time lifting my legs to get into my truck or into bed.  I do have hypothyroidism.  I'm overweight but can't seem to lose any weight.  My metabolism is pratically nil.  Now my doctor has put the depression tag on me so I'm basically screwed about having anyth ...

Hypoadrenia/adrenal Fatigue/burnoutJun 22, 2016
I've struggled with this one on and off for decades.  I like Dr. Wilson's line of supplements but have discovered that eating on a schedule is even more important to healing.  Right now mine are completely fried; I am pretty sick. Was just wondering if anyone here has beaten this and, if so, how?  Thanks. ...

Extreme Fatigue (worse Than Normal) Any Ideas?Mar 05, 2013
I know it is the most common complaint doctors hear - and for years I have had the stressed-tired-overworked fatigue - I know how that one feels.  But this has been going on a couple of months.  I am bone tired even after I sleep a lot.  My blood work showed I am hypothyroid so I started on medicine and also some supplements for that.  But nothing seems to be helping.  I have pain/fatigue across the area of my back right at the braline.  My arms and neck feel heavy. ...

Sleep-eating? Feb 28, 2011
Okay, so my husband has been eating in his sleep.  Sometimes he remembers doing it, and sometimes he doesn’t.  And he eats really weird things.  For a while there, he would drink pancake syrup right out of the bottle multiple times a week.  Last night, he “woke up” standing over the kitchen sink, eating a plate full of sour cream.  Could his sleeping pills be causing this?  ...

Eating MeatApr 24, 2010
Hi everyone!  I am an avid animal lover and find I am feeling increasingly guilty about eating meat and poultry.  However, I have put on some weight and want to cut way down on carbs as well.  Can any of you very informative, intelligent people out there give me some guidance?  My niece is now reading a book about whether or not to eat meat.  She said it is brutally honest about the treatment of farm animals.  I need to make a major change, not only because of ...

Emotional EatingMar 04, 2013
I have put on a lot of weight in the last few years.  Several people have suggested different things on this board to help with appetite.  What can be done to control emotional overeating?  In the past I have not tolerated antidepressants and have had to go off of them due to worsening depression.   I know food is used often to cope with stress, and I truly think it also becomes a habit that is so hard to break.  ...

Eating The Paleo Way Jan 27, 2014
I've been generally slim my entire life.  I'm in my early 50's now and into menopause.  Recently, I put on a lot of weight all of a sudden.  I developed a huge gut, and it was definitely fat, not bloat.  It got so big so fast, it actually felt like my fat "hurt."  I had read about the diet of hunters-gatherers over 20 years ago, but I kind of forgot about it until about 2 weeks ago, when I picked up The Paleo Answer and started eating the Paleo way.   ...

Bladder IssuesMar 06, 2011
I had a hysterectomy about eleven years ago.  Since that time, I have had a lot of UTI\\\\\\\'s.  I would assume it is because I have a prolapsed bladder or cystocele.  I am seeing a Urologist on Thursday and I was wondering if he was going to recommend a sling procedure.  Has anyone had this done, and are you happy with it?  ...

Skin IssuesFeb 23, 2011
Well, we're all pretty much feeling the economic squeeze and I'very decided I need to find a more economical line of skin care products (I have sensitive skin and have been using Cetaphil cleanser with creme de la mer toner and the creme de la mer moisturizing cream for ages).  I don't know if its because my skin is just supersensitive or so used to these high-end toners and moisturizers that they just go haywire when I try something new and more economic.  I'd bee ...

Weight IssuesMar 25, 2012
Okay, I have always been a medium built girl, somewhat petite at 5'3 and always carried my weight well. Two years ago I quit smoking and packed on 20 lbs. I got busy working out and counting calories, and tried to change my eating habits. Okay, it was gradual, but I lost 10 lbs. Over the course of some months it continued to decline gradually. But this Winter around the holidays I pigged out. Then I went through a transition where I lost my job, quit cooking and eating healthy and jus ...

Not My Kid, But Got Teenage IssuesAug 24, 2010
A very dear friend of my husband and I has gone off the deep end over the past year or more.  He is a full-blown cocaine/crack addict and his family has all but disowned him.  He pretty much does what he wants and is not anywhere near the point where he feels like he needs help. He has kicked his wife and her 15 year old daughter out of the house several times during his path of self destruction.  Most recent was this past weekend AFTER he took almost everything in their ...

Let's Talk Issues....smAug 01, 2012
Since it has been brought up that libs supposedly don't want to talk issues, let's do just that... Issue 1: Foreign policy: What exactly is it that Romney would do different from Obama in the middle east? Issue 2: Besides trying to kill Obamacare and therefore healthcare for tons of people, as well as lowering taxes for the rich, what is it exactly that Romney would do to improve the economy? I'm assuming pubs have the answers to these questions as they are so sure that Romn ...

Outside Cat, Trying To Solve Eye Issues AndOct 27, 2014
I wrote down below about outside cat that has eye issues. Some told me about L-Lysine, got that and started 1000 mg a day or so ago. What I would like to know, have some Vitamin C that I was giving him and he seemed to have brighter eyes. This morning his eyes again (after not giving him the Vitamin C, switching out for L-Lysine) were looking a little worse. Would it be any problem to give him both the Lysine and the Vitamin C? Thanks my fellow catfolks! ...

Fertility IssuesOct 14, 2016
My daughter has been unble to get pregnant since she had a miscarriage 8 years ago.  She found out her right tube is completely blocked.  She wants a baby so much, and she would make a wonderful mother.  All of her friends are working on their 3rd or 4th ones now, and she cannot bring herself to go to baby showers anymore.  I encouraged her to look at foster care, since adopting a baby is expensive and takes forever.  I am reaching out to my peeps on this board to see if ...

NEIGHBOR ISSUESAug 22, 2015
There are 3 families with young children who live next to me.  My children are grown and gone.  All of the children like to come to my house, probably because I don't have to discipline them, I'm like a grandmother. Anyway, I will label them family A, B and C.  Family A is no longer allowed to play with family B or C - long story. I enjoy having all of the children at my house - I miss having children around.  I have never had this problem before and I'm not ...

Hypothyroidism And Skin IssuesApr 09, 2011
I have hypothyroidism, but not taking any medications.  Part of my problem is my face and skin.  Under my eyes is always flaky (like psoriasis) and I've got pimples that are breaking out all over my face, but they are not like the pimples of my youth (without getting gross about how I used to get rid of them), now when I try to pop them nothing happens and they get bigger and redder and they hurt.  The skin on my face is normal but my forehead is normal to oily and the areas ...

Need To Talk About Mental IssuesApr 27, 2011
I don't even know where to begin.  Right now, I am in such pain and emotional turmoil, but I know it is many times worse for my son.  He has been diagnosed with autism (educational diagnosis) later changed to Asperger's, and the initial medical diagnosis was PDD-NOS with ADHD (at age 3).  He is now in 9th grade and life is miserable for our whole family.  I am coming to believe that he may actually have (either with the above or any combination of thi ...

Feet Issues- For YearsAug 22, 2013
I have no idea where to go to get some help for myself. I have tried every single speciality that I thought perhaps could help but this has been going on for over 10 years now and no help. Tried ortho, podiatry, neurologist, nerve conduction studies, x-rays, MRIs, nothing found and no treatment and still going on. If not for Birkie's, have no clue what I would do but still feet aching. My left foot used to have electrical current that would hit, only when walking, never at night. That elect ...

Sinus/Allergy IssuesApr 27, 2014
Has anyone ever heard of this happening?  I have never, ever had any type of issues with sinus problems or allergy problems.  Back in October, I got sick and was living in a house with probably some mold and other allergens.  I got extremely sick and stayed that way for a couple of months.  Since then I have had a stuffy nose, unable to smell, limited taste and a stopped up ear, so that has been SEVEN months now!  I don't have insurance, so the only doctor I can aff ...

Two Issues (one Non MT) And A Question, So Will Post Here. Jun 08, 2016
I am on a job search (or was until last night). I had been trying for FT, PT, whatever comes along for the time being until I can find something stable outside the home. I received two invitations today to schedule interviews for FT positions. Now I need to know how to politely decline these so I'm not burning any bridges in case I end up needing them again. Now the reason I need to decline and my question. Last night I found out that I will be moving my grandmother into my home to take ca ...

Husband Issues-Part 2Nov 05, 2014
I posted a short while back and got some great input and was asking for a bit more.  Short recap: I'm the one that the hubby has a lady at work who has a crush on him, made it known to a friend of mine, I confronted lady and hubby stopped talking to her, but didn't really have a confrontation with her.  I was upset at hubby, because I felt he should have confronted her, not just me.  Anyway, I decided to take the high road and just leave it alone and stop bothering hubby ...

Have A Question About End Of Life IssuesFeb 06, 2015
I know it makes no difference what a person wants in their directives, the family can and does sometimes want something else but I want to talk about vent care, life support. Okay, so if a person is at end of life and has no directives, the doctor says to the next of kin you have to make a decision, this person is gone. I know you cannot live like forever on life support, not like you are living but remain on life support is what I mean. What if the family says no, absolutely not and refuses to ...
