Does anyone know the difference between heart problems

Posted: Apr 11, 2015

First I do have an appointment with my doctor at the end of May.  That is the soonest they could get me in.  Going back for a followup from my last visit where I was diagnosed with diabetes.  Just found out that 3 months ago my hemoglobin A1c was 14.5 and my glucose levels are always high (between 250s -350s, occasionally over 400).  Took it night before last before dinner and it was 215.  Woohoo!  But that was short lived, so now trying to recreate what I did that day to get it down.  Which was basically fasting.  I've also started exercising too.

Okay...here is my question.  My chest feels heavy all the time and if I bend over when I get back up I feel dizzy, sometimes nauseous, but most of the day my chest feels heavy, sometimes hard to breath.  I've been trying to find out the difference between heart problems or having anxiety.  My paternal grandmother had heart disease, my mom had panic and anxiety, so unsure if those play a role.  I just have not been able to find anything specific.  I'm going through a tremendous amount of stress here.  i don't feel panicked, but I am very worried a lot of the time.  So I am just wondering if there is a way before my appointment to try and know what it is and how to deal with it and things to help until I see her.

Thanks.

I'd advise you call your doctor...SM - Old Anon

regarding your new symptoms, chest heaviness, difficulty breathing, and probably postural hypotension. Maybe they can get you in sooner or have you go to an urgent care. Also, the fact that your blood sugars are still out of control may warrant an earlier appointment. Why are you waiting? Be proactive and stop trying to diagnose yourself on the internet.

Gee, thanks for the rude message - I asked a question.

If you didn't like it you had the option to move on. I will seek all information I can before going to see my doctor. I'm not going to go in and then have them tell me I'm having an anxiety attack and need to go home and relax (yeah, I type them all the time).

No, they can't get me in sooner. I told them what I was having. This is the soonest they can get me in.

Don't have health insurance or money to just run over to an urgent care or whatever every time I have sliver, so doing the best I can and learning everything I can...yeah on the Internet. Amazing what people can learn on the internet. I even found sites to help me control my diabetes, and yes, my sugars are coming down however slow that may be....imagine that, the internet providing people with health related issues.

Sheesh! (insert rolling eyes).

You never mentioned you had no health insurance or had already told the doctor's office about your new symptoms. I was not meaning to be rude. Chest heaviness, difficulty breathing, and dizziness sound a bit more serious than a sliver, so my comments were addressing those things. It's good that you are trying to educate yourself on the internet, but I still think you need direct medical attention for your symptoms. I am being concerned, not rude.
My 2 cents - Anon

For what it is worth, do not wait until the end of May to see your doctor. While there is nothing wrong with getting info from the internet, don't depend only on that. Whether you have insurance or not, a facility cannot refuse to treat you. If you are very concerned, go to an urgent care facility. Don't wait until it is too late.

I guess I'm also over sensitive to everything.

Thank you everyone for your advice.

Right now I'm fine, if I get the symptoms again I will call or go somewhere.

Thanks all.

I do not believe that you were being extra sensitive. This same person if you notice in my post down below did it to me. She seems to like to degrade and humiliate and just plain be nasty to people. She has an attitude that she is the only authority on anything.
No one was rude to you. No one even responded to - your post, Sickley.

Sickly, I can't see where Old Anon responded to you on this entire page. No one at all responded to you in this thread.

There is a post by Anon beneath yours in this thread, but it was not in response to yours ... It was just posted AFTER yours. It was in response to someone else.

You might not like what someone says, but that does not mean they are directed at you. You can't "know" what is in their mind. Thinking that they are sneakily directing thoughts at you is, well, inaccurate.

People here are not talking about you. If a post is directed at you, in response to yours, it will be INDENTED BENEATH YOURS, as this one is.

Try Googling panic attack versus heart problems. That would give you some idea of the types of symptoms that you may be having now.

I don't know why they make people wait so long for appointments. I am still waiting for someone to refer me to an ENT for my ear problem. I have had it since December.

You didn't tell me how long you have had this.

I took Remeron (an increase from 10-20 mg) which had side effects of making mental illness worse, i.e. like my depression. Well, that made me have panic attacks and it took me months to get over it after I came off of it. I had to go to counseling and also took an anti-anxiety medication p.r.n. Anyway, I would check your medications. You need to know that some cholesterol medications will cause people to develop diabetes. I know of two people in my family who took them and they now have diabetes.

These medications are not given stricter warnings to patients or doctors. That leaves us to do our own investigation.

Let us know what you find out

let's start here - anon

First, an article for you to read on diabetic heart disease:
http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/dhd/signs

Anxiety is tricky to diagnose, because you can't necessarily know if it's a response to something happening (you're afraid of height and are on a plane) or it's a chemical issue (no reason to trigger it). It can happen for no logical reason at all (i.e. you're watching a comedy on TV).

It could be either one, and only a health professional (with a medical degree) can correctly diagnose you. The people here can't do it.

Snippy answers do not help anyone - sickley

[ In Reply To ..]
I was not trying to give her reasons to diagnose herself. I thought if she compared the two things, she might figure out which one it was.

You seem to want to flog anyone at any time for their opinions.

You totally misunderstood my intentions. I for one have both problems and diabetes as well. I found out through a simple test that most of mine was anxiety and then finally I looked up the side effects of Remeron and discovered that this was the reason that I was having the panic attacks.

So please do not answer me again or condemn me nor criticize me.

I am not trying to diagnose anyone nor encourage anyone to do such. By all means go to a doctor, but until then, it might relieve her a bit emotionally and physically if she tried to separate out what symptoms she is having from one particular condition.

I am so sorry you feel you have to be so nasty to everyone.

Sickly, that post WAS NOT DIRECTED AT YOU!!! - sm

Sickly, you took offense at nothing. Anon was not answering you. She answered the OP. She was also polite, so your belief that she was snippy to you is unfounded.

head is pounding. It is a wake-up call for me that I need to control my stress level and try to stop worrying. What I do is make some decaf herbal tea, like Sleepytime or Tension Tamer and read a book while I drink the tea. It helps to have my favorite cat sitting on my lap too, as he calms me down. Keep us posted and take care of yourself.

Awww, love your post. How I'm doing - OP

It has been a long time since I first wrote, so unsure if anyone will even read this.

First, come to find out I had the flu. I'm at the tail end of it and that's been now over a month. Been going through a lot of stuff in my life. Very stressed, ran out of money, but thank goodness we were able to get assistance to pay our mortgage and utilities and that was a relief.

Not having shortness of breath anymore, not having heart issues anymore, got a part time job I'm ecstatically happy about.

Still got a lot to do to get us back up to having decent living wages, but I feel like I'm finally crawling out of the black hole.

I can't wait til the time comes when I've got the time to curl up with a book and hot cup of tea. Been sleeping a lot and think that's helped.

As for the cat, I love my cats, though none are the "cuddly" type. I did read that a cat's purr is very healing.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Does anyone else have the problem of certain outside noise frequencies causing their eardrums to vibrate or pulse really fast? This only happens when I wear my headphones. I have noise-canceling headphones and can't actually hear the sound, just feel the vibrations in my eardrums. It's only certain things for me like lawnmowers, chainsaws, four-wheelers, and some car/truck engines. Most of the time it isn't bad if whatever is making the noise is just there for a moment, but i ...

Heart MurmurJun 08, 2011

A Breaking HeartJun 11, 2013
My stepfather and I lost our beloved Tiny, a Chihuahua/Terrier mix on Sunday.  She was diagnosed with Cushing's about three years ago, and since then has had a few bouts of severe pancreatitis where we thought we would lose her.  Saturday evening she could not keep her supper down after about 1 1/2 hours, then Sunday morning he gave her a soft boiled egg, which she again lost about 1 hour later.  When he arrived home from church she vomited a small amount again. Period ProblemsMay 31, 2011
This may be too much info for some of you guys, so sorry in advance! Husband ProblemsAug 11, 2012
I need some opinions about some of the things my husband does. Knee ProblemsDec 11, 2012
