Background: My darling son had a brain tumor when he was 3 and had surgery to have it removed. It grew back twice and he had two subsequent surgeries. Although he is very bright and functional and on a day to day basis you'd never guess he had this, it did affect his learning ability somewhat. He had to go to a sort of alternative high school but did get a diploma. Then he wanted to try college so we let him. He passed one course. He has worked at some odd jobs, but still has this dream of going to college. He has tried once or twice in the past, and has managed to pass two more courses while failing or having to drop others; his GPA is less than 1. Again this spring he wanted to try so I enrolled him again against my better judgment (junior college, 9 hours, easiest classes I could find in the "basics", and he's already on scholastic probation so must get a C in them).
Yesterday he came in talking to me about how once he passes these classes and a few more, did I think his dad would let him transfer to the university. I know it's going to be hard enough for him to pass these classes. I honestly can't see him ever going to the university, but his friends have gone to college and most are almost done, and that's still his big dream. Honestly, I just don't know what's going to become of him.
I didn't want to hurt his feelings so I told him when he got 30 hours completed, we'd talk about it.
