My son is 10 years old and complains like an old man. Bless his heart! My heart breaks for him. My husband thinks he is just a drama king (and admittedly he can be at times), but I really and truly believe he is in pain and just has health issues. He tested positive for environmental allergies when he was 7 years old and had allergy shots for awhile, and was on Zyrtec, and a plethora of allergy medications. Now he is only taking Claritin p.r.n. and seems to be doing fairly well in that area. He was also considered a borderline asthmatic but only has to use the albuterol inhaler infrequently now. He mostly had to use it when he was working out heavily, such as training in karate, or just running around playings with his friends. He does not do karate any longer, and only swims at school 2 days a week for about 45 minutes per day, and that is getting ready to stop as soon as school is out. Other than that he gets no exercise, unless we ride our bikes in the neighborhood. He does love to play on the trampoline. He just gets winded so quickly. He gets out of breath just coming up the 3 small flights of stairs we have at home. Recently we were on vacation and did quite a lot of walking and he was complaining that his feet were hurting so badly, he says in the arches of his feet, and his heels. We bought him some arch supports and he said those really helped him, and he was able to continue walking. He is always complaining of something hurting him, his head hurts, his legs hurt. Tonight he says his back is hurting on the right side. I used to think he was just trying to get attention, but now, as I mentioned before, I really do think there's something to this complaining. He doesn't whine about hurting. He just says he hurts and sometimes cries with pain. Does anyone have a clue as to what could be going on? Should I just take him to the doctor for a workup and see if they can figure anything out? I desperately want to help my child. A doctor may be able to do an examination and/or blood tests and come up with something definitive, or they may refer us from specialist to specialist. I'm just frustrated and wonder if anyone has any experience with a child like this.
