A lot more child abuse cases lately.

Posted: Dec 23, 2014

these kids should be having a wonderful time this season, getting ready for Santa Claus and baking cookies with their mom and dad, decorating the tree and being read stories before bed. But they are being beaten and taken out of their homes to live with strangers. Just breaks my heart. Honestly, sitting here crying and praying for these little babies.  What the heck is wrong with people?

I am a child advocate, for sure. I find it very interesting that people tend to not speak out about child abuse (especially on this board), but if someone steps on a caterpillar, all heck breaks loose.

I have to wonder if there aren't a bunch of child haters on this board. I said something once about a child being more important than a cat, and the cat people hung me out to dry. I spoke out against being mean to little children (whether it's verbal or physical), and not one person spoke out against it.

Sad, but true. A child can't defend his or herself any more than a cat or dog can---in fact, a cat or dog can scratch the person, bite the person, run for the hills, but a child can't. I've seen people treat their pets better than they treat their children.

So, yes, it's very sad that this happens to little children. It damages them for life.

Thanks for your response. I am also an - animal lover but as a

grandma of a 1-year-old boy, I found it very difficult to start the day off yesterday with a 14 month old with 2 broken arms at the hands of his parents. What could this child possibly have done to deserve that??????? And I just bet that those monsters get him back too, only to go back to that treatment. So, so wrong.

Dear "see msg" I would have replied if I - had seen your post

[ In Reply To ..]
I sure didn't see your post about a child being more important than a cat. I would have responded if I had.

I'm an animal rescue volunteer AND a child advocate. You're right that not enough people speak out against child abuse of any kind. I do. And YOU do. That makes 2 of us, anyway.

I have no doubt that a whole lot of us on this board will loudly and constantly defend children from abuse and neglect. I sure hope I'm right and that we'll hear from some on this thread.

It was quite some time back. In general, what I see here are people who get more passionate about how animals are treated, as opposed to how children are treated. I can betcha if someone said they kicked their cat or heard about a cat being kicked, there would be a gazillion notes here about that; if someone came on here about a child abuse/neglect story, it wouldn't get the same passion. Like here. If this was a story about a cat or dog being left with no love on Christmas, you'd see more people here.

I am for all. It just saddens me that so many seem to forget about the children.

I Rest My Case-Dislikes on my child advocate post - see msg

[ In Reply To ..]
See, people dislike that I'm standing up for the children. I actually have had 5 pets at one time, and treated them well, so we can't call me an animal hater.

But anyone who chooses to dislike my post about also saving the children, has a serious flaw in their humanity.

Sad, very sad. I hope the dislikers of my post don't have children. I feel sorry for the children if they do. When they're older and no longer under your clutches, they will be able to make their own choices---unless they're so broken they can't. Some adult children of abuse make it in life without their so-called parents; many don't and go on to use drugs or cutting themselves and other horrible things.

Shame on you.

It's not really one or the other - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
Just because a person stands up for animal rights does not mean he/she would harm a child. I think there needs to be a greater regard for life in general. Those who would hurt an animal have been known to hurt people. When it comes to abuse, I think we need to protect and look out for (in no order of importance. . all important) the elderly, children, those with special needs, and animals. Anyone who abuses/neglects a child should lose custody of the child. However, sometimes they are treated terribly in foster situations as well.

Actually if a child is old enough, they sure as heck CAN - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
speak out!! Animals CANNOT!!! I am surprised at you! SHAME!

You Misunderstood - See Msg

[ In Reply To ..]
I think you misunderstood. Yes, if a child is old enough, they can speak out, but if they're under the age of 18, what good does it do?

We see kids speaking out all the time---they have tantrums, bounce off the walls, have behavioral issues, learning issues, social issues. And it does nothing to change their situation, except to maybe get medicated.

When they are legally old enough, yes, they can leave their situation and never turn a backwards glance on their abusers---if they have the strength to carry on on their own without ending up in the streets.
LOL - "kids speaking out" - wheres_my_job
[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, sure they can - what a great idea! So if there are multiple children, the parent can focus all their abuse on the "troublemaker" (child old enough to speak out), encourage all the siblings to dump on that child to, and the family unit can carry on, with an image of themselves as a normal healthy family - except for the "troublemaker," who "speaks out."

Yes, that is certainly a brilliant idea. Let's send that bulletin out to all the abused kids of the world. Speak out. See what happens.

I think also in these family dynamics, sometimes what happens is, the abuser is confronted, and gee whiz, they got a gun and kill the whole family!

Oh yes, a brilliant idea, "speaking out." Not.

Most of the time kids won't speak out - Just saying

[ In Reply To ..]
I know two children who are abused and they will NOT speak out to DFCS about it. For one, their parents have them so terrified that they are going to end up in this mythical orphanage that they speak of and be even worse off and also they happen to love their parents, no matter what.

Child protective services has been called on this family numerous times, but as long as the kids keep saying it is fine, they just move on. I keep the kids with me A LOT, which actually causes somewhat of a financial burden on my family, but I do it, because I know they need me. The thing is though, they will stay with me maybe a month and then, guess what.....they ASK to go back home to their parents. They MISS their parents. It is so hard to understand, but even in a relationship, you leave a man who is horrible, but after time away you think maybe it wasn't as bad as you thought it was, so sometimes you go back. These kids are dealing with the same sort of thing, but with their own parents, so I can understand why they go back. I can't do anything other than let them go back when they want and just keep my door open for when they need me again.
Those Poor Kids - A Shame
[ In Reply To ..]
It is so much easier and less complicated to have an animal removed from a bad home, than to have a child removed. They are going to grow up with some serious mental health issues.

You don't say how old they are, but I hope when they're of legal age, they get the heck out and never talk to those vicious people again. Many (too many) adult children of abuse continue to stick around and try to "fix" their abusers. They also often marry abusers in the hope of fixing a past.

I think those children want to go back because they keep holding on to hope that it won't be bad anymore. So sad.

I agree - Love kids and animals

[ In Reply To ..]
I LOVE animals. I'm the person that if I see a stray, starving animal, it's coming home with me until I can find a suitable home for it. BUT, with this holiday season I noticed time and time again all of these people that I know donating TONS of gifts, time and money to our local humane society, but never saw anyone talking about helping out the children who wouldn't have Christmas. Our humane society had such an outpour of gifts, that food, toys and beds were stacked everywhere! I love animals and I do tend to think of mine as members of my family, BUT we do need to realize a human life is much more valuable.

Thank You - see msg

[ In Reply To ..]
I am the person who said people are more valuable than animals. I just don't see the outcry over children being abused, but the outcry over animal abuse is huge. Kind of weird if you ask me. I would never put an animal over a human being, especially a child who is so innocent and so easily hurt when their parents are abusive. And abuse takes many forms--it's not just physical abuse. Unfortunately, I hear people all the time screaming at their kids, calling them names, demeaning them, etc., and somehow those kids don't get taken out of the home of the abuse.

I so love animals, but we need to watch out for our children as well.

Christmas is a very dangerous season for - some individuals, particularly - sm

women, children, AND pets. The stress of the season (and the tendency for far too much alcohol to be consumed) puts those who were already at risk in far more danger of being hurt.

Statistically there is only one other "holiday" which is even MORE dangerous for women in particular, and that day is Super Bowl Sunday. More beatings, shootings, and other types of violence towards women occurs on that day alone than any other.

So true. Amazing what a difference NO ALCOHOL makes - wheres_my_job

I don't mind a wine cooler, or eggnog with brandy, etc - but for those people who DRINK - death grip on the glass of booze - it's WONDERFUL when they aren't there or they've stopped drinking! What a difference!

Although it is a tad annoying, that they apparently are oblivious to the fact that they are so much easier to be around...once they've cut back on the booze. They still have it in their head, YOU'RE the reason they were so aggravated before...no, actually it was the BOOZE. And if it's not the booze, it's their own unacknowledged pain and anger they project onto others.

Anyway, happy holidays! So NICE not to see the family boozers this Christmas!

alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. What a lengthy, painful, NASTY way to go. I've never been a drinker, because I know that stuff is poison and won't touch it. But if I were, just watching someone die from cirrhosis would get me off that stuff immediately.

She is in her 40s, and she is a wonderful person. However, she still "parties" with her friends, who are extremely nice people. She was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus, which healed up nicely. Then she started drinking again with her friends on weekends. She looks it as socializing and having fun, and ignores the risks to her health. I have spoken to her many times about it, but to no avail. I am sorry for what you and your loved one are going through.

Verbal Abuse...Feb 11, 2010
It's me again.  I had posted this past weekend about my hubbie that didn't ask me to go to superbowl party.  Well I got over that pretty quick.  I have gotten brave enough to ask if any of you live with someone who dishes out verbal abuse to you?  I was in denial for a while, but I believe I need to accept the fact that my husband is a verbal abuser.  He says such mean things and screams.  I was feeding the dogs and let some out of the pen and he said God ...

Verbal AbuseSep 02, 2010

Unemployed Men Are More Likely To Abuse Their WivesFeb 23, 2010
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pushed for a $15 billion jobs bill Monday by suggesting that unemployed men are more likely to abuse their wives. “Men when they're out of work tend to become abusive,” Reid said as he argued in favor of a cloture vote on the jobs bill. “I met with some people while I was home dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand. Why? Men don't have jobs. Women don't have jobs either, but women aren’t abusive, most of the ...

Children Of Domestic Abuse Dec 18, 2012
