I am thinking about taking out all meat and dairy from diet...

Posted: Dec 16, 2009

If currently doing this, what made you start and how do you think it has helped?  Does your family eat the same way, or do you prepare 2 separate meals.

Any helpful websites or books that I could/should check out?

of the family is a vegetarian, several members follow and become vegetarians, as this is definitely a healthier way of nutrition. Another reason: It is a bother to cook for 1 person differently, so "join the club."
This happened to me.

My daughter has been a vegetarian for several years. She makes her own main dish and she eats the side dishes we have. My daughter drinks and eats dairy. She has vegan friends though who are really strict. No one else in my family is a vegetarian and my husband, younger daughter and I have no plans to switch at all. Just make sure you eat a lot of protein and iron. Her doctor is checking her for anemia because she doesn't eat protein in the form of meat any more.

correct, many vegetarians have to supplement B12 and iron...nm - veg

diet - feeling better

I switched to a veggie diet because as I got older (i'm in my early 40s now) my digestive tract became more sensitive to heavy protiens and dairy. It was a gradual change that I made, but how much better I feel. I have energy, sleep better, my SKIN and HAIR look better and my stomach is so much happier.

Now, I am not strict vegan or 100% vegetarian, I eat fish, shellfish and won't turn down an occasional rib eye, but for the most part avoid meat, dairy, processed sugars, never drink soda or artificially colored drinks, no caffeine. This was a gradual lifestyle change spanning a few years. Not abrupt. That would have been impossible for me! I also started a regular exercise program and believe it or not, that helped with my arthritis. I have much better flexibility and hardly any more aches.

Check out LIVESTRONG.COM for articles. This is a great website for healthy tips and lifestyle changes.

I have just turned 40 and have a bunch of issues and heard that if you take out meat and dairy, you can basically heal yourself.

Thanks for the tips.

meat and dairy - MT30+

I started about 8 years ago and took all red meat out of my diet. I have chronic pancreatitis and had figured out that everytime I hate the slightest amount of red meat that I would wind up in the hospital with a pancreatitis attack. I cannot tell you how much better I feel and what it has done for me. My husband is very cooperative and will eat anything I cook. He only eats red meat once in a great while when we go out. Because of stopping the red meat it has cleared up his gout and helped his arthritis. Then I took out pork. I eat small amounts of chicken and fish and very little dairy. You can do it and it is easier than you think.

There are meat substitutes in the frozen food section of the grocery store that are a great substitute for ground meat in chili, tacos, spaghetti etc. You will wind up liking them better than ground beef.

Good luck.

For both reasons I am now buying online ONLY meat from grass-fed beef, free range chickens, and humanely rsased hogs from a consortium of farms in Missouri.

Tonight On Republican Town Hall A Dairy Farmer Questioning TrumpMar 29, 2016
if Trump gets rid of the illegals because his farm depends on their help and other farmers do as well. Trump is saying for people who "need" their help, i.e. Latinos, they could have Visas to come here and work but they would not be illegal. Guess Trump does not know so many Latinos have gotten here just that way, Visa and then stay. So much for his getting rid of all the illegals. ...

Eating MeatApr 24, 2010
Hi everyone!  I am an avid animal lover and find I am feeling increasingly guilty about eating meat and poultry.  However, I have put on some weight and want to cut way down on carbs as well.  Can any of you very informative, intelligent people out there give me some guidance?  My niece is now reading a book about whether or not to eat meat.  She said it is brutally honest about the treatment of farm animals.  I need to make a major change, not only because of ...

Newt On Meat The PressJan 22, 2012
Going off about Saul Alinski, community organizing thugs not voters, blah blah.  I would welcome his candidacy because all that gibberish was judged by Americans last time and deemed rubbish. Mittens released tax returns.  I dont expect much scandal, he seems to be upstanding in regards to the law, just personally carrion seeking. I think Newt is doing all this (with the aid of the Las Vegas guy with $5 billion) just so he can ride on that dang presidental airplane in the seat of ...

I Need To Diet And Trying To Get My Own Dietician ToDec 29, 2009
I am overweight, probably on the 60 pounds or more side. I think I look ok when I look in the mirror and then see picture of me and think "who is that?" I have a hospital close by my house and I would like to get a diet that is suitable for me. I have tried WW's, Medifast, Jenny's and the like. I do not care for their food and find getting away from the house a challenge as the days I have off seem to be taken up with other things. I want a diet that is low enough in calories but one t ...

While I'm At It, I Need A Doggie Diet.Jul 02, 2010
Our dog weighs 108 pounds (black lab). She doesn't want to exercise. Won't play anymore. Just lays around. She weighed 96 pounds 2 years ago and at the vet this past winter, she put on the extra 12 pounds during the year. We were only giving her 1 can of dog food and 1 can of dry food (scooped up with a regular veggie size can) a day. She seemed okay with this but still gained weight. We tried cutting back to 1/2 can dog food and dry food, but she wasn't happy 'cau ...

Purina DietOct 17, 2012
So I'm at Wal-Mart buying a bag of Purina dog food for my dog. While in the check-out line, a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. Why else would I be buying dog food, RIGHT??? So on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again, and that I probably shouldn't because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both ar ...

Put My Porker Of A Cat On A Diet And How ItJan 22, 2014
I tried to give that chunky guy some incentive. I even joined him and dieted right along with him. You would think he would say well we both can do this. Noooooooo, that has not happened. I researched, came here, others offered suggestions, bought some nice grain free food, called the company to find out how much to feed him, got him in the habit of going separately in a room to feed, he really takes a couple of bites and ready to leave out and go as fast as he can to where the other cats have f ...

Gluten-Free DietNov 03, 2013

It doesn't mean gluten causes Celiac disease, it means that people with Celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten. Gluten also doesn't cause any hea ...
