Question for those who use coconut oil as part of their diet

Posted: Jan 15, 2010

I want to buy some coconut oil to add as part of my diet (been reading about the benefits), but I see so many different brands.  I remember last year I bought a jar of organic coconut oil, but when I opened it there was no smell of coconut and had absolutely no flavor.  Am wondering if anyone can recommend a good brand.

Two Part Question - First Album, Fav Bands Of 70s/early 80sNov 21, 2009
1.  What was the first single (45), 8 track, album or CD you bought with your own money?  Most of you probably won't know this one but mine was "Billy Don't Be a Hero" by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods.  It was a 45.  It came out around the Viet Nam war era so I assume that's what it was about. 2. Fav bands of 70s/early 80s Zeppelin (At the beginning of Stairway to Heaven, John Paul Jones plays a part on his keyboard that sounds like a flute and I learned ...

Coconut Oil For Dementia?Jan 03, 2013
Well, my MIL just got back from the specialist who told her the results from her radiologic tests.  No, her carotids are not all clogged this time, ruling out that as the cause for her short-term memory loss.  The problem is probably within her brain, possibly early Alzheimer's.  He basically told her there is nothing she can really do at this point except take good care of herself.  Well, I had stumbled onto something on the Internet when researching something else and ...

I Need To Diet And Trying To Get My Own Dietician ToDec 29, 2009
I am overweight, probably on the 60 pounds or more side. I think I look ok when I look in the mirror and then see picture of me and think "who is that?" I have a hospital close by my house and I would like to get a diet that is suitable for me. I have tried WW's, Medifast, Jenny's and the like. I do not care for their food and find getting away from the house a challenge as the days I have off seem to be taken up with other things. I want a diet that is low enough in calories but one t ...

While I'm At It, I Need A Doggie Diet.Jul 02, 2010
Our dog weighs 108 pounds (black lab). She doesn't want to exercise. Won't play anymore. Just lays around. She weighed 96 pounds 2 years ago and at the vet this past winter, she put on the extra 12 pounds during the year. We were only giving her 1 can of dog food and 1 can of dry food (scooped up with a regular veggie size can) a day. She seemed okay with this but still gained weight. We tried cutting back to 1/2 can dog food and dry food, but she wasn't happy 'cau ...

Purina DietOct 17, 2012
So I'm at Wal-Mart buying a bag of Purina dog food for my dog. While in the check-out line, a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. Why else would I be buying dog food, RIGHT??? So on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again, and that I probably shouldn't because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both ar ...

Put My Porker Of A Cat On A Diet And How ItJan 22, 2014
I tried to give that chunky guy some incentive. I even joined him and dieted right along with him. You would think he would say well we both can do this. Noooooooo, that has not happened. I researched, came here, others offered suggestions, bought some nice grain free food, called the company to find out how much to feed him, got him in the habit of going separately in a room to feed, he really takes a couple of bites and ready to leave out and go as fast as he can to where the other cats have f ...

On Line Diet CompaniesJul 29, 2010
I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried the on line diet places where you purchase food, like NutriSystems, EDiets, etc., and actually lost weight.  Mostly I am considering it because of having to work 18 hours a day to barely make my mortgage each month, I do not really have time to cook a nutritious meal, and my body is suffering.  I was wondering if the food was any good, and if someone actually did lose weight.  I was wondering if the cost of the food was worth not havin ...

Gluten-Free DietNov 03, 2013
What is all this stuff about gluten being bad for you? Since when? Gluten is only bad for people with celiac disease---and there's a very specific blood test for celiac disease. Celiac disease is in the media more, because doctors are realizing that people with the symptoms (diarrhea, as the main symptom) should be tested for the disease. It doesn't mean gluten causes Celiac disease, it means that people with Celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten. Gluten also doesn't cause any hea ...

insurance companies et al is the driving force behind all the anti reform misinformation and propaganda out there.  Why are they afraid?  They have a HUGE financial stake in this bill.  When this bill passes, whatever its final form, investigations will be begun to root out corruption and waste in all aspects of healthcare, most significantly the insurance companies.  They are also not happy about the new regulations for reining them in, no caps, no dropping people, no r ...

Why Don't Some Consider BC To Be Part Of Healthcare?Oct 22, 2012
Insurance should cover prescription drugs, such as antibiotics, narcotics, antidepressants (how many here are on THOSE??) and birth control pills. Are birth control pills considered different b/c they're related to sex?  Is that what it boils down to? I was put on them at 14 years old by my pediatrician.  It wasn't covered; we had to get them at PP.  Why wasn't it covered?  If I'd had an infection, antibiotics would have been covered. Hi again all. I have an update from my post earlier about the job hunt. Well, I just received a phone call from a hospital about 30 miles away that I applied to back in February. This is an in-house full-time MT position, mostly VR, but paid hourly. It would be M-F second shift (3-11 p.m.) with a rotating weekend schedule where I would have to work a Sat/Sun every 12 weeks or so (depending on the rotation). There is a $1.25 shift differential for working nights. Training is a full year to get up ...

I found this recipe for chocolate chip cookies that I'm dying to try (same site as the mocha cupcakes), but I don't understand this part of the recipe and what I'm supposed to do.  Also, it seems like the cookies are going to be HUGE :-)  I'll copy the link t the recipe below, just don't understand how to do this part (it sounds easy, but I don't know what they mean about rotating the dough) - (step 4) :  Roll a scant 1/4 cup of the dough into a ball ...

Egypt, Libya, Etc. Part IIMar 02, 2011
Is Democracy Viable? By Thomas Sowell Those who see hope in the Middle East uprisings seem to assume that they will lead in the direction of freedom or democracy. There is already talk about the "liberation" of Egypt, even though the biggest change there has been that a one-man dictatorship has been replaced by a military dictatorship that has suspended the constitution. Perhaps the military dictatorship will be temporary, as its leaders say, but we have heard that song before. What ...

My Part Siamese Is BonkersNov 30, 2011
My "black" (actually he's dark brown in sunlight) cat that I adopted from the animal shelter, Riley, is part Siamese. Had I known that most "black" cats are actually Siamese mixes I never would have chosen him.  Siamese cats are the #2 type left at shelters, and there are reasons for it. Anyway, he is now 12 years old and loves me like his kitty mommy. :)  I love him too and would be eaten up with guilt if I gave him up. There have been behavioral problems from the beg ...
