Has anyone tried the DASH diet?

I have been looking into a new diet plan for this year that I can stick to. I came across the DASH diet which also helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol. This would be perfect for me. Just wondered before I buy the book if anyone has tried it and if so, what were the results? Thanks!

I never do any of these diet programs. Years ago I tried several different programs and none of them worked. The best way to lose weight and get fit is portion control and exercise. That worked for me better than any diet program ever did.

I tried a couple times, and will try again in a bit. It is tough! If you are used to processed and/or salty foods, it will be one heck of an adjustment. I did actually lose about 8 lbs in less than a month, and BP went down a little. Unfortunately, the family was not very supportive and left their salty, greasy snacks in view; I quickly reverted back to bad habits and regained the weight and BP numbers. I do believe it is a good program, though.
Couple of suggestions: Before buying a book, make sure it is the program for you. If you have not already done so, Google "Mayo Clinic DASH diet" and it will bring up info, recipes, guidelines, etc. If still interested, see if the book is available at the library. Good luck!

I really appreciate your input! I am not much of a salt and processed food kind of person nor sweets, but I need to learn to eat cleaner and portion control. I will take your advice and Google the Mayo Clinic one and learn more.

She followed it herself, and lost a significant amount of weight. Like anything long-term, it takes commitment, but from a medical standpoint, she believed it to be very sound, for what that's worth to you.

I was just recently diagnosed with hypertension and the weight gain has been a struggle since quitting smoking 3 years ago. I do not like to take medication so if this helps my weight and BP and its recommended by health professionals I think I will definitely try it. I do exercise by power walking and jogging with intervals for 3 miles a day and also bike riding every other day. Maybe with this diet I can shed this extra weight and be back to my old self again!
