It is that time again. School is about to begin and we will be sending our children into the classroom to be with educators who we think are safe for our children to be around. Please, please, please, listen to your children. If they feel uneasy about a teacher/situation, listen; and do something about it! At the end of the last school year I posted on this board because I felt and my child felt uncomfortable about changing a shirt in the classroom for a field trip. Almost everyone who posted a reply crucified me. I hate to say I told you so, especially because I was right. Recently there was a news cast. A teacher had been arrested. Never had a single complete filed against him. Apparently he also ran a daycare from his very own home this summer. He was found to have thousands of files on his home PC of child pornography. Shortly before he was caught a local mom stopped him because he had been following her sons for 5 blocks. This teacher had tattoos of an adult with children on his body. No – I never did send my child to school that day to attend that field trip and change her clothes in front of a teacher. And now, I know my child\'s picture isn\'t floating around the Internet. Always listen to your gut. Please. This is serious. Cameras are so small. They can be hidden in things the size of pen – even smaller. Sadly, in this world we live in people like this exist. People we think we can trust – should be able to trust. Just beware and remember to listen to your gut.

so the only thing she was "right" about was that it DOES happen. Not that it happened at her daughter's school. Not that I'm minimizing any of it because it's a tragic thing. You just can't live your life expecting horrible things to happen. JMO.

"I told you so" what? Out of the hundreds of thousands of good, honorable, teachers in this nation, there was one who turned out to be a pervert? I understand that there are probably more than one, but just making a point. There are a few female teachers who have been greatly sensationalized that have been sexually involved with young teenage boys, but I will still send my sons to school.

I am a philly area girl (though not living there currently). He is going to stay with his mom in the township right next to where I used to live (lived 1/10 of a mile from the township his mom is at...so obviously now he is close to where I used to live at least). He was in Media, PA (where I was born) teaching. What a slime ball he is. I don't think it was a daycare though some sort of camp, I did not get from the articles that it was run from his house though, but he did live across the street from another elementary school (not the one he taught at). I doubt any parent would have allowed him to stay in the room though IF the girls even changed in the class room, did they? or did they change in the bathroom like the majority of us thought? Cannot quite get from your comments if he was your kid's teacher or just some article you saw about a teacher who has been arrested for having child pornography (I believe no reports of any molestation have come to pass so that is at least good).

I am considering returning to school but I have no idea what career to pursue. For anyone in their 40s who has started back, can you give me some insight as to how you decided upon your career, how difficult it is for you in general, are you still working while going? I have no college education save for a couple algebra classes I took for fun 20 years ago (I always was a bit of dork). At 51 years old, I have been doing MT for about 28 years. Out of high school I started in the kitchen of the local hospital, moved to a nurses' aide, and then moved to the hospital-trained transcription department, so I don't really have previous 'career' training. I haven't told my child about Conn. She is not ready for that tragic reality. Hi all, My son's last day of school is today. Looking for some fun, inexpensive ideas to keep him busy at home and for both of us when we can be on the go! I don't want video games and/or TV watching to be the main ingredient of his summer days.
