Okay, so the school board opted out of the program. - What's the problem?

So they opted out of the program and will not receive federal funds. Problem solved.

They were always free to fund their own choices without getting the government to pay for it, same as the health care/birth control issue, so why are conservatives finding this such a big deal?

If they want to eat fat and drink sugar and let their kids get overweight and obese, why should the government pay for their lifestyle choices?

They either follow Michelle's guidelines or lose funding. That's really smart, now isn't it?

Michelle wants them to eat healthy but they don't see anything wrong with letting the kids starve if they cut funding to the lunch program because they don't follow it.

Maybe all the homeless will start sitting outside the schools this coming year so they can grab the throw away food that we pay for just for it to be thrown out.. At least they'll have something to eat unless it's really bad and they won't touch it either.

Well, the employees of Hobby Lobby now have their employer making their health care decisions based on the employer's ideas about religion, and you think the employer shouldn't have to pay for their lifestyle choices, right? Their employer has cut their funding to certain things that have FDA approval, but they can pay for their own choices, right?

So in this instance, no one is starving unless their parents are letting them, right? Their parents have always been free to send them to school with whatever they wanted them to eat, right?

Why should the government/taxpayers have to pay for anybody's lifestyle choices? Why should the government be paying for their food?

Not sure who made the argument, but a conservative poster asked yesterday: "Would you ask the government to buy your cheeseburgers?"
