So on Sunday I talked to the two moms and let my friend know about what I heard the two girls say. I saw one of the girls on Monday and asked her about the boy who had thrown the punch. She said he was not on the bus, but was at school that day (any number of reasons he was not on the bus) and the regular bus driver did not drive on the way home. I didn't ask about whether or not her mom went into the school or reported it.
Today I had to go to that school for orientation in anticipation of my child going there next year. I got there early and went into the office and spoke with a lady. I told her my child would be on that bus next year and there was an incident reported to me by two neighborhood girls on that bus. I asked if she had heard anything about it because I was concerned it was slipping through the cracks. She really only wanted to tell me what to tell my child for next year and did not seem interested in taking a report of what I was trying to tell her. I finally asked her point blank if she knew if it had been reported and handled within the school because I was trying to determine whether to hire a daycare to transport my child rather than ride that bus. She finally wrote down the name of the child who was said to have done the hitting (I didn't have the name of the child that was supposedly hit), the street I live on and started taking the name of the girls.
It was interesting because as soon as I said the first girls name, she stopped writing and said the office knew that child very well and why didn't the boy who got hit report it to the bus drive (I felt she suddenly starting deflecting away from the reporting child). I told her I didn't know and she started down playing the possiblity that it had happened at all because the bus driver would be the appropriate person to talk to and the she didn't know about it already. I finally asked whether or not she was going to make an inquiry with the driver about it, or anyone else in the office, and she finally said she would, but "you know, sometimes girls like to create drama." (her words not mine) I asked if there was a complaint form I could file and she said they would not consider it from me since I did not witness it.
I ended up leaving feeling very unimpressed with that school. In addition to that happening, the orientation was more about impressing the parents with the multiple degrees of the principal rather than what the kids and parents should expect from the school. Overall not feeling impressed with what has been touted as one of the best schools in the district. I did my part and I followed up. Don't know how it will turn out, but I first let the parents know and then let the school know.
