"I'm Tired"

Posted: Dec 28, 2009

 by Robert A. Hall

I'll be 63 soon. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce, and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth around" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy or stupid to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes."  Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought Mc Mansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

I'm tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore,  George Soros, and Hollywood entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe, the freedom of the press of China, the crime and violence of Mexico, the  tolerance for Christian people of Iran, and the freedom of speech of Venezuela. Won't multiculturalism be beautiful?

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I believe "a man should be judged by the content of his character, not by the color of  his skin." I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the  post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of US Senators from Illinois.

I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.

I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that thinks Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful;  that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America, while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue, or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers, especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What's next? Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"? And, no, I'm not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it's been a  few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person who can  speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military.... Those are the citizens we need.

I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and  death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave?  Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of  schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I'm tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship.  I live in Illinois, where the " Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet as well.

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers, and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I'm real tired of  people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my  granddaughter.

Says it all - as far as I am concerned

[ In Reply To ..]
Mostly, I'm tired of a Congress and an Administration who think that just because they have the majority (momentarily) they have permission from the people (their bosses, remember?) to blow this nation's Constitutional foundations to smithereens, destroy the principle of state sovereignty, take over industries, explode the deficit into the year 2150, burdening every American child - and their children -with $tens of thousands of debt in the process, and tell American citizens how to live their lives...while sucking up to foreign tyrants who turn around and laugh in our faces.

Agree..and tired of it too. I wish all of America would - actually stand up for it ! nm

of Fox-addled old white guys who blame the poor and downtrodden for all our problems instead of the real culprits - rich old white guys and the class system in this country. As far as religion, plenty of nasty things done in the name of Christianity but I don't condemn all Christians. I don't know who is telling this man to "spread the wealth aroun," but then I only watch Fox occasionally.

Here's a question I bet you can't answer - at least without blowing your leftist propaganda out of the water:

Which would you rather be when it comes to getting money for college, money to start a business, subsidized housing, free substance abuse counseling, free "pregnancy and parenting" services, preference when you apply for a government job...(list goes on ad nauseam):

A. A single minority woman who earns $15,000 a year.
B. A single white woman who earns $15,000 a year.
C. A single minority man who earns $15,000 a year.
D. A single white man who earns $15,000 a year.

Pick one. Didja get answer "A"?? Good for you!

Nonsense. - Every mention of race is NOT racist
[ In Reply To ..]
This pathetic ploy of calling anyone who makes any comment about race a "racist" is old, tired, juvenile and intellectually impoverished.

On the other hand, the point I was making (and it's indisputable) is that the SYSTEM of government entitlements, give-aways, set-asides, and special considerations IS racist - and shamefully so.

Yup, I'm "freedom-loving". What a concept - not to be dependent upon or enslaved by the government. The idea is foreign to you, no doubt.

Yup - I'm a proud "tea-bagger" - which has only one legitimate meaning, i.e. one who resists the expansion of the federal government into every area of personal life, who resists the unconstitutional incursion of the federal government into areas that properly were reserved to the states, and who resists the insane expansion of the federal deficit which will bring this nation to its knees and enslave our children and our grandchildren.

In other words, one who understands that this government was established with the idea of very limited federal powers - and for all of the reasons we can see unfolding under this administration.

Call me a "freedom-loving teabagger" any time and all the time. Here's a big kiss for you. SMACK!

Question for you-Did you listen to O's speeches - Backwards Typist

[ In Reply To ..]
when he was campaigning? He's the one who wants to spread the wealth around. He's the modern day Robin Hood, or so some people think.

What about the lady who thought she would have her mortgage paid and free gas? It was all over the news back then.

Although some of O's ideas are good, I didn't vote for him because I didn't know how he would accomplish his ideas without raising taxes. Now I'm glad I didn't vote for him. He is just a puppet in the regime. Congress, or should I say Pelosi, and the Senate control everything. They know they're in trouble with all the spending and are willing to give up 20 to 40 congress/senate seats because as Pelosi stated, "they weren't worth the trouble to be seated anyway" or words to that affect (read that last week in the newspaper).

Until checks and balances are put in place once again, there will be no end to the problems.

Other countries are now seeing how weak we have become in the past year and they are just rubbing their hands waiting for the right moment to finish the job.

I also just read in yesterday's paper that economists don't think the unemployment situation will clear up until 2015 even if they spend money on jobs, because most of those jobs will be GOVERNMENT jobs anyway, which will add to our misery. Manufacturers will not start hiring more people until they are certain the economy is going to pick up and they are nervous over the health care situation. So, until the health care passes and then kicks in (now 2014 BTW), they aren't going to take any chances.

that's a grim outlook - poxyjade

[ In Reply To ..]
I did listen to his speeches. He stated he wanted to make certain the burdens weren't placed solely on the middle class. He wanted the super-wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes. If that is what you mean by spread the wealth, I'm for it. The unemployment rate is largely due to outsourcing of jobs to overseas by the greedy corporations. Obama, my dear, had nothing to do with that. You simply cannot heap all the problems we are having on the president. He is working to improve things despite the total obstructionism of the despicable repubs.

Obstructionism is on both sides. - Backwards Typist
[ In Reply To ..]
It's been going on for years. The parties don't give a dang for the people they represent anymore. They only care about the party they represent.

If it weren't for corporations, there would be no jobs at all.

What O needs to do is stop the outsourcing somehow. NAFTA was a very bad idea from the get-go and now he wants to expand it even more. As long as the corporations are afraid to hire in this country because of the politics of today, more and more jobs will be outsourced.

He also needs to stop and listen to the people. He's only listening to his top advisors which I think is a mistake because they, too, don't give a dang about this country. They only care about handing money to Wall Street and the money changers. If they had listened to the people who protested (yes, I know some were radical but most weren't), they would know that most people didn't want some of the items in this health care package and wanted REAL health care reform. What we got was a package that takes care of the health care industry and hurts the people.
agree with comment on parties - poxyjade
[ In Reply To ..]
Outsourcing - I don't know what to do about that. The world is changing and I don't think there is a simple solution - wish there were. Health care - there was no possible way the plan he ideally wanted could pass. He took the first step in the right direction at least. I believe he does care about the people in this country; he is really a good man. Corporations should be able to make money but their welfare should not rise above those of the individual.
I really think the corporations aren't the ones to blame - Backwards Typist
[ In Reply To ..]
It's Wall Street and those connected to them. After all, now that they paid back their Tarp money, it's business as usual with big bonuses.

NOBODY, and I do mean nobody (except me winning the lottery), deserves to earn $1,000,000 or more a year. That's just outrageous. They line their pockets with gold while the rest of the population suffers.

O stated some good things but as he enters his second year as president, he has done the direct opposite of what he proposed in his speeches. As long as Congress and the Senate get those overly large donations from lobbyists and insurance companies, it will never change. What ever happened to that promise? Wasn't that one of the first things he wanted to stop?

I look at it this way: Ya can't bite the hand that feeds ya. That's exactly why nothing is being done against the above but he didn't realize that he DID bite the hand that 'partially' fed him (getting him elected), and I don't even think he realizes it. If he keeps going, he will find out both in 2010 and 2012.
what is it you think he can do - poxyjade
[ In Reply To ..]
without the cooperation of Congress and Senate to remedy this situation? Sincere question.

As far as nobody deserves to make over a million a year, I agree emotionally, but realistically that is something govt has no business in, I must say reluctantly.
He can't do anything about it. That's the problem and - Backwards Typist

that's why there should be term limits and why we have to boot out some of those on both sides in the upcoming elections.

We need to put new people in that represent the people and keep the ones that represent the people now. I have seen 3 Letters to the Editor in my newspaper in the past 2 weeks of ordinary men tired of all the bull and have announced their plans to run for either the congress or senate and have given their reasons and an inkling of plans they want to implement. There will probably be a lot more as 2010 rolls around. It may be a hard decision to make this year.

You are right about the million$ salaries and government. I don't want to see restraints put on them, but I would like to see them voluntarily give back some of their money (like maybe half?) into their company to upgrade/expand, start new companies and...this is the biggie....get unions out of their companies since they control wages which, in turn, leads to higher product costs(used to be for unions but not in the past 10 years). I think unions are what helped companies decide to send their production overseas. Now businesses are making high profits (at least some of them), and all we get are cheap, seriously flawed products.

It's a vicious circle.
I believe there's a desire to "vote them out" on both sides. (sm) - Nikki
