This board is a prime example of double standards from both sides, hypocrisy on both sides, and the blind following their choosen herd without trying to see for themselves. I'm just tired of it all.

There are many different meanings of kool-aid drinkers. The term is used widely throughout the states and other countries.

A Kool-Aid drinker is someone who has imbibed deeply enough of the One True Faith to have seriously damaged their mental faculties - often irreversibly. The term is originally derived from the beatniks' "acid tests," in which they would trick people into drinking LSD-spiked Kool-Aid

"Drinking the Kool-Aid" is a phrase and metaphor, used in the United States and Canada, that means to become a firm believer in something, to accept an argument or philosophy wholeheartedly or blindly without critical examination.

When someone talks about Kool-aid drinkers it is not referencing the Jonestown massacre.

It is a perfectly fine phrase to use, and the OP was correct. The term is used on both parties.

The metaphor "drink the Kool-Aid" came into common parlance as a direct result of the Jim Jones episode.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with the acid tests of the '60s.

Kool aid drinkers, not the kind that hang around my house and love lemon-lime....I think refers to people who are just sheep and do things en masse, like little lemmings jumping over the cliff, i.e. Jim Jones and his followers. They died. That's tragic. But I still think it has a bit of a humorous note. We need to not be so serious. When you get old, you will realize it doesn't matter as long as you don't say it in front of someone more sensitive to it. I think political correctness is overdone. SOME stereotypes have a ring of truth to them or they would not have become stereotypes. Degrading words about someone's race or religion or disability is bad, but most things - let's face it - are funny. Drinking the kool-aid is not offense. Only those who are the ones who are sheople following blindly whatever it might be, whether politics, religion, or anything, if they are the kool-aid drinkers then maybe they don't like it, but it is used in every day life now, and not everyone equates it to JJ and it is not and has not always been offensive.

The country is now so thoroughly messed up that it doesn't matter who wins anymore, so why even bother. I think our country and government have picked up far to much speed in their slide down that slippery slope to complete corruption to ever be brought back to anything that even closely resembles what our founding fathers had in mind.

I do believe that we need to bring in more tax revenue. I agree with the pres on that one. However, I don't believe raising the taxes on the rich is the answer.
