anyone had carpal tunnel/cubital tunnel surgery

Posted: Nov 19, 2012

have symptoms, again, of carpal tunnel, but also have cubital symptoms..Was just curious about recovery time, etc.. Typing with these stupid splints on is next to impossible. And is it covered under workmans comp?

carpal tunnel - anon

Yes and yes. I worked for a hospital when I had it in both hands. And, I got Workmans comp. And, It is painful procedure, but it is well worth it. That was a long time ago and I still don't have any recurring problems.

carpal tunnel syndrome - 1mt

It is not necessarily covered under work comp. I am a work comp adjuster. Some years ago the medical professionals thought that carpal tunnel could be caused by typing; however, more recently they have discovered that it is caused more by repetitive forceful activities such as gripping and/or twisting and not from typing. Just because you type in your job does not mean it caused the carpal tunnel. There is absolutely no way you could say that definitely yes it would be covered under work comp. If you truly have carpal tunnel and your doctor says it was caused by typing - be prepared to be sent for a 2nd opinion.

kind of laugh. Going back many years. I worked in a factory and started having the numbness and pain. I went to my doctor and he said it was carpal tunnel and recommended trying splints and work restrictions for awhile to see if that helped. When I told my employer, they got all huffy and made me go to their doctor. Their doctor recommended surgery on both hands, which meant I was on worker's comp for quite awhile, as they did one hand at a time. I just thought that was rather funny how that bit them. LOL

I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands, two weeks apart. I was actually emailing the same day (a bit of hunt & peck with the surgical hand.) I had very little pain or discomfort and wish I had done it years earlier! I think it was about 2 weeks after the second hand before I could actually return to work.

Just wondering if anyone out there has any good tricks for either of these to help on the job?  I currently have a pillow under the arm that has cubital tunnel and wear wrist splints bilaterally at night for the carpal tunnel, but am having a harder time lately with hand strength and getting my fingers to move right consistently, plus am dropping things more.  Thanks in advance for any tips you might have!! ...

Would Anyone With Carpal Tunnel Please Describe It?Jun 26, 2014
I would like to know the difference between just plain fatigue and real carpal tunnel syndrome? Is it specific to one place, or throughout the entire forearm? Is it sharp or dull? Does it happen as soon as you start typing or only after a long period? Thank you anyone. Any information is appreciated. ...

Carpal Tunnel ReliefNov 07, 2014
I purchased an arm splint on Amazon.com, but didn't like how it felt and so don't use it. Instead, I go to YouTube and type "carpal tunnel syndrome stretches" or "yoga exercises carpal tunnel syndrome" and there are some effective exercises in effect brief videos, some by physical therapists. "Top 3 Exercises For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" is one that I particularly like. I do some exercise every day or every other day and it counteracts any pain in my right arm. ...

Need Help With My Carpal Tunnel And Forearm Pain.Mar 30, 2011
I had an EMG study a couple of years ago and was told I had mild carpal tunnel in both wrists.  Well, Ive been working two jobs for a while now and it has gotten way worse.  My hands go numb and have to shake them out every so often to get the feeling back and get rid of the tingling.  And now my right forarm has a deep muscle ache, on the top of the arm, up close to the elbow, probably the extensor carpi radialis longus muscle and it has been hurting me for at least three mo ...

Looking For Best Wrist Support For Carpal Tunnel Please...smJan 01, 2011
Can anyone out there recommend a wrist support that actually works while you type?  I don't mind if it's a little expensive, I just need it to allow me to type while giving my wrists the support it desperately needs.  I use one while I sleep but it's too constricting to type with. Okay...going to take some ibuprofen now for this pain:) ...

Working After Carpal Tunnel ReleaseApr 10, 2013
Hello all, I have a question for those of you who have had carpal tunnel release surgery.  I went to the neurologist today and had EMG and nerve conduction studies on both of my hands.  My right hand middle fingertip is quite numb.  The test showed moderate CTS on my right and a little milder on the left.  it really scares me because of the constant numbness in my middle finger.  I have to go see my hand surgeon after he receives the report from the neuro doc to see wha ...

Menopause - Please Tell Me There Is Light At The End Of The TunnelMay 19, 2010
I have been transcribing for 32 years now, am 54 years old.  I started menopause 1-1/2 years ago (so I guess since they say you have to have missed a period for 1-full year that I am officially menopausal).  My world seems topsy turvy.  Is there light at the end of the tunnel.   I have tried working a second job for the past year off and on, but it has been too difficult to concentrate.  After 10 years of working from home, because of the slump in production decided ...

Has Anyone Here Had Bariatric Surgery?Dec 10, 2009
I am just trying to get as much info as possible.  Looks right now like it will be a RNY in India (insurance does not cover it, cost including air fair and all medical costs around $8,000 compared to 25-30,000 in the USA.)  Has anyone here gone through it and how was the process?  Was it open or lap?  What was the recovery time?  How have you adapted to the dietary changes afterwards?   ...

Surgery/WorkMay 30, 2012
I am having upcoming surgery and do not want to use what little bit of sick time I have (because then I'm in a pickle if I get the flu or something).  I inquired if I could use a few vacation days and then have a few off unpaid if needed (because I often use vacation days for necessary things rather than something pleasant).  I was told I could either go the FMLA route and will have to eat up any sick time I have or have to use all vacation time, which will wipe mine out. Do most ...

Surgery For De Quervain's Dec 31, 2012
Did anyone have surgery for de Quervain's tenosynovitis?  I had one injection a year ago, which resolved the issue.  However, a few months later the condition returned worse than ever.   My surgeon said the procedure "usually" eliminates the problem, but scar tissue may form which would cause pain, and the need for an additional procedure.   ...

I'm Having Vein Surgery And I'mAug 02, 2014
I'm hoping someone on this board will have had, or know someone who has had, vein ablation therapy, also called EVLT and EVLA.  It's done in the doctor's office under Versed twilight sedation and local numbing medicine in each incision on the leg.  I have chronic venous insufficiency, which has, over the past year, taken a toll on my life.  I have constant aching pain in both calves every waking moment.  The pain even wakes me in up from sleep.  Both ankle ...

Rotator Cuff SurgeryMar 18, 2011
Has anyone out there had rotator cuff surgery? Getting Second Opinion Recent Eye SurgeryMar 22, 2013
I decided to contact one of the managers where I had my cataract surgery about 4 weeks ago now as striving to see what other options might be open for me. Needless to say I do not have any desire to return to the original surgeon, not that he failed but with his flaring up about a perfectly innocent comment from me, will not trust him in going forward with any tweeking that might need to be done. I have an appointment to see the manager on Monday. I like to speak face to face with a person, not ...

Stressing About Surgery, Not For The UsualAug 07, 2013
So I went to the orthopedist in May, had xray of my shoulder. At that time it was popping quite a bit and hurting (hurting that is until I got to the office, but you know how that is). Bottom line, xray done, doctor studied for a minute (could see his scanning as he was directly outside the room pondering the radiograph). He said you can just watch and if it should become more painful then surgery. Ok so it got worse over these few months. Am trying to sit operation up, getting okay from PCP (to ...

Does Anyone Know Why Doctors Keep Delaying Surgery On Bunionectomy?Aug 13, 2013
