Working after carpal tunnel release

Hello all,
I have a question for those of you who have had carpal tunnel release surgery. I went to the neurologist today and had EMG and nerve conduction studies on both of my hands. My right hand middle fingertip is quite numb. The test showed moderate CTS on my right and a little milder on the left. it really scares me because of the constant numbness in my middle finger. I have to go see my hand surgeon after he receives the report from the neuro doc to see what options I have. So, if it comes down to surgery, what can I expect after while working? How did you feel after having it done and returning to work?

[ In Reply To ..]I had a left carpal tunnel release about 3 months ago. I'm very glad I had it done. All my symptoms of CTS are gone. The surgery itself and the recovery was pretty easy, not too much pain. I had the surgery done on a Thursday and went back to work as an MT the following Wed. for 3 half days, then full time the next Monday. My doc told me that typing is actually good exercise after the surgery.. It was much more uncomfortable to write (as I'm left-handed) than to type. I had my final ortho followup yesterday. I have some residual pain at the bottom of the incision, which doc says is scar buildup, which could take as long as 8 months to go away, which is not really a big deal. Scar massage helps to break up the scar tissue. Anyway, the surgery (at least for me) was no big deal and I have absolutely no regrets.

[ In Reply To ..]I had both hands done at the same time. I had them done on the Friday before a 3-day weekend and went back to work on Tuesday. No pain but my hands felt very weak for awhile. I would say it was a week to 10 days before I could type "normally."

I don't mind if it's a little expensive, I just need it to allow me to type while giving my wrists the support it desperately needs. I use one while I sleep but it's too constricting to type with.
