Stressing about surgery, not for the usual

Posted: Aug 7, 2013

So I went to the orthopedist in May, had xray of my shoulder. At that time it was popping quite a bit and hurting (hurting that is until I got to the office, but you know how that is). Bottom line, xray done, doctor studied for a minute (could see his scanning as he was directly outside the room pondering the radiograph). He said you can just watch and if it should become more painful then surgery. Ok so it got worse over these few months. Am trying to sit operation up, getting okay from PCP (to include possible chest x-ray, EGK and blood work), documentation for job as to when, why and get all that in and now trying to get set up in advance for day someone can be there with me. Person at the surgeon's office saying documented on chart do not suggest anything further to be done, not having any pain. Duh! If I had not had pain in the first place would have never shown up at the office. I told the person things get lost in translation a lot of times and then reiterated what exactly was told, should it get any worse, then consider surgery. I am so tired of having to do it all. Am not into going through surgery just to have surgery. Okay, through venting now. ;

I had to read this three times (actually twice as the first time I was on the phone with hubby) and you seem to have a problem getting your point across. You were a little all over the place so I can see how they may have misunderstood you. Be firm with them, tell them you're having significant pain, and want something done about it. Then, find out your options and take it from there.

Agree, probably came across like that - but just overwhelming

this morning, thus the comments. When you have a documentation in chart from the physician stating "no further treatment" you can be sure I have no problem in stating the pain is more severe and was told by that same physician possibly surgery if no improvement. What bothers me I guess is the fact of having to sit up each and every thing trying to coordinate surgeon/job/release for surgery from PCP/insurance clearance, appointments for 2 of above. I need an extra hand.

understand your frustration - you have to do all the work

[ In Reply To ..]
and them pay them for it. makes no sense, but it is a good idea for a new job opportunity....start a business as a "surgical coordinator" and offer to do all the phone calls and scheduling for the patient!! I would do it!

you just need to revisit the surgeon - sm

As you know, you just can't schedule surgery for yourself. If the surgeon felt surgery was not yet warranted at your last visit, he documented that. You have to be evaluated by him again in order for him to modify his assessment.

Took some questions by the office for him - and strange thing

[ In Reply To ..]
his nurse called about a week and a half ago, gave me the answers and then said no need for a return visit, would just see me in surgery after the preop clearance, insurance, etc. done. This was prior to this week's "documented no further treatment" statement in the chart. The physician left it basically up to me stating we could take a wait and watch type thing, if the arm did not get any better but then documenting no further treatment. I guess the no further was if and until. A follow up had been scheduled for him last week.

This sounds like the - same person who..

was posting several months ago... and didn't really make a lot of sense. Being charged for surgery that supposedly wasn't done and those 2 girls visiting for the summer. hmmmm I thought you weren't coming back here? lol

and you sound - like

one of the very people who tortured that poor woman to death verbally. Sharpening your fangs again are we??

Poor woman? I don't think so - She brought it all on herself.

[ In Reply To ..]
I think I only left 1 reply, maybe 2 at the most to all of those posts.
just because someone makes poor - choices in their lives
[ In Reply To ..]
does not give you, or anyone else the right to judge her and verbally attack her. one, maybe two, posts attacking this poor victim is unacceptable. Sweep your own doorstep clean before you start pointing fingers at someone else. People do not post on this forum simply to be attacked. they are not "asking for it." or "bringing it on themselves." and who gave you the right to "give it to them?"
She is not a victim - and I did not "give it to her"
[ In Reply To ..]
The victims are those who have to deal with her in person. Those are who I feel for.
I wish I were so perfect that I could judge others - Meh
[ In Reply To ..]
the way that you do. What is your payoff for being so unkind? Was someone unkind to you and so you are just passing it along? Why not let kindness begin with yourself?
Sounds like you are the perfect one - who is judging others
[ In Reply To ..]
Saying she is a "poor woman" "victim" "she made poor choices" Now tell me that isn't judging.
it's empathy - not judging
[ In Reply To ..]
can't keep your terms straight?
Can you tell me what kind of poor choices - Karla
[ In Reply To ..]
this poor woman made and why was something her fault?
How do you know she brought it on herself? - CJ
[ In Reply To ..]
And who are you to judge? Are you special?
Where do you people get off - saying I am judging that person?
[ In Reply To ..]
judge (jj)
v. judged, judg·ing, judg·es
v.tr.
1. To form an opinion or estimation of after careful consideration: judge heights; judging character.
2.
a. Law To hear and decide on in a court of law; try: judge a case.

c. To act as one appointed to decide the winners of: judge an essay contest.
3. To determine or declare after consideration or deliberation.
4. Informal To have as an opinion or assumption; suppose: I judge you're right.
5. Bible To govern; rule. Used of an ancient Israelite leader.
v.intr.
1. To form an opinion or evaluation.
2. To act or decide as a judge.
n.

a. One who makes estimates as to worth, quality, or fitness: a good judge of used cars; a poor judge of character.

c. Law A bankruptcy referee.
d. One appointed to decide the winners of a contest or competition.

a. A leader of the Israelites during a period of about 400 years between the death of Joshua and the accession of Saul.
b. Judges (used with a sing. verb) Abbr. Judg. or Jgs or Jg See Table at Bible.

I would like to refer you to definitions 1 and 4 above regarding forming an opinion and assumptions. I have not posted anything about my opinions of this person nor assumed anything about her. You are the ones that are doing that by saying she is a "poor woman" "victim" "made bad choices"
you stated in your first post - that you had
[ In Reply To ..]
been one of the ones that were verbally attacking her, and to do that, you were judging her actions, her words, her choices in life. check out n. a. above. fits what you had done, and continue to do by saying that "she brought it on herself." meaning she brought on everyone's condemnation of her in the supposed previous posting she had made. I remember that post and it was absolutely horrible. Suppositions and assumptions were made about her and her motives. you are still forming opinions and assumptions about her, if she is indeed the poster from previous who was attacked so terribly verbally. You don't even know that for a fact, yet you are assuming she is, just by the way her post reads. We are not judging her...we have empathy and compassion with her for how she was treated by many on this board, including admittedly, yourself, as you stated you posted one or two of those vicious statements.
I did not say in my first post that I had verbally attacked her - or posted 1 or 2 vicious statements towards her
[ In Reply To ..]
What I said was that I left 2 posts at the most on the many posts that were posted back then. There were probably at least a hundred posts then, some attacking her and some not. You have no idea who left what post. I know what I wrote in the post(s) I left. So you cannot say what I did and didn't write. But yet you are the one who is assuming that I verbally attacked her and judged her then and still judging her now. Nowhere have I assumed that the OP of this thread was the "poor woman" that is being referred to here. I did not assume, that is why I said "this sounds like..." The person who said "that poor woman, made poor choices" is the one who is judging her "poor choices." Might I remind you that is not me?

Ay yi yi people. This is ridiculous. LOL Have a good night.

Agree - Thought the same thing
