This trial has just been going on too long. As with so many sensationalized things these days (too much in my opinion) it is just going on and on and on too long, with the hopes that a reasonable doubt is created on the part of the defense. I have tried to catch a bit of testimony on a daily basis, though I have not allowed my life to revolve around this case. I have just wanted to see what evidence each side had and how it was presented and form in my own mind whether or not she is guilty. Every day, all across this nation, trials are held for people who have killed a child and we never hear about them. Why is this one so different? Well, I have an opinion about that. I think so many people are fascinated about this trial because of the fairly new "reality" TV. This is like an extension of that. Also, this family is middle-class and appears strikingly familiar to a lot of Americans. This family has that air of dysfunction in the home, just enough to pique our interest. Back when this all happened Nancy Grace started all the sensationalism. I mean she went after Casey Anthony and her family with teeth clenched and it got a lot of people (women especially) all worked up.
I do have to say though...I admire Judge Perry. He has presided over this case with professionalism and fairness. I'm sure it has taken everything he has in him to tolerate the attorneys on both sides, day after day. The countless sidebar meetings and admonishments from him to Baez especially has bound to have taken a toll on his nerves. I mean after all, this judge is almost overdoing it when it comes to this case because he's so worried a hung jury or mistrial will come from it or an appeal because something was overlooked, etc. He constantly has to measure his words and actions and have something immediately available to back up what he's saying/doing. He's basically walking on eggshells. I would imagine Judge Perry will be the most relieved when this case is over. Just yesterday, after the antics of Jeff Ashton and Jose Baez he had finally had enough. He said, "no more sidebars...enough is enough; if anything needs to be said it will be said in open court". Thank goodness.
I don't believe he will give C.A. the death penalty though. I think he will go with life in prison without parole because that punishment will not have to go through all the automatic appeals as a DP case would. But Judge Perry...you have done a terrific job. Wish all the judges in America had the integrity you have.
