Looks like ex isn't sending kids Christmas gifts

Posted: Dec 15, 2015

First Christmas since the divorce and I have the kids for the holidays. Ex isn't responding to my questions of what he's getting the kids for Christmas out of their list they created of requested items and blows me off when I ask him directly.  He has a good job and money - so it's not as if he's lacking.

Funny thing is that while married he'd want to spend like crazy on Christmas gifts for them and now we're divorced he has become Mr. Jerk in that department.  If he doesn't come through I'm going to make him explain to the kids why he doesn't get them at least something.  I refrain from talking down about him to them but this will be hard as heck if he doesn't give them at least a little something.  Fortunately I've got them some gifts for Christmas so they'll have things from me and Santa.  I need prayer for patience!

Maybe he is getting them something - and feels he

is not obligated to tell you what the gifts will be? I have an ex like that. Kids are grown, thankfully.

Im thinking he is avoiding you. He has the list, wait and see. Worst case they get double of a gift or two. in that case, the kids can donate to someone in need.
I hope he's not that big of a jerk and buys nothing. That would suck.

My hub and his ex always used to share and combine monies to get the kids group presents.

As Judge Judy says, you're supposed to love your children more than you hate your ex. I hope you ex wakes up and realizes how important it is to have a good relationship with you AND your kids when they are with you. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Well - My Take

I think if you don't back off, he won't get them anything, so he can get back at you.

Stop being dysfunctional-sounds like you're annoying the living you-know-what out of him, and your kids don't need that.

It would be stupid and immature of him to neglect getting the kids something for Christmas because he's ticked off at you, but I think it would be stupid and immature of you to keep harping on it.

Let it go, and if the kids get duplicates, so be it. You can return something or donate the gift. Is it really worth all this energy?

I don't consider asking him twice.... - Disappointed

since Thanksgiving as hounding him. The kids have no idea I have asked him about it as I don't let on to them that he hasn't bothered to respond. BUT if he doesn't give them anything I know they'll ask and I'll have them call him and ask him about it as I am not taking the heat for that. They gave us both the Christmas list of wishes and it'd be nice if he was getting something to let me know what. It's a 45 minute drive to the closest stores as we live in a small town and so returning stuff is a real hassle and could be avoided if he would just communicate.

He sent no gifts. Would not answer the phone when kids called him to wish him a Merry Christmas. On Saturday they called his brother to see if he had heard from him (youngest kid idea, not mine). Their uncle asked why they were asking and they told him that he didn't send them anything for Christmas and wasn't talking to them or answering the phone. The uncle called their dad and basically chewed him out, then the uncle felt so bad about his brother's behavior that he told them to go on line and pick out $50 worth of gifts each, send him the links and he'd pay for them himself and send them - in addition to the gifts the uncle had already sent for Christmas. The kids told him that he didn't have to do that but he kept insisting so they finally took him up on it. The uncle lives 9 hours away and said if he wasn't so far and didn't have to work Monday he'd have driven down to see them. He apologized for their dad acting like this.

Need advice. We have friends with a 10 YO and an 8 YO.  This may sound silly - but I feel that our friendship has evolved to that of us going to visit them, us sending gifts for holidays, us emailing and calling them.  We always get lovely thank you notes, but they live two hours away and they haven't been to our house in about five years and we haven't been to theirs in 2 years (husband refuses to go over there until they come here)!  .  Am I beating an old re ...

Baking Christmas Gifts...Oct 19, 2009
At my husband's family get together last weekend, I realized that my husband's family is just too huge to keep buying individual Christmas presents (15 adults and 5 kids, not counting his dad and my parents) plus our 3 kids so I've decided to get nice containers like a hatbox and fill it with baked goods, spiced pecans and jar mixes for each family. So my questions are: What jar mixes do you like to give/receive? What baked goods do you like to give/receive? TIA ...

Christmas Gift Cards For Friend's Kids And Great Nieces And NephewsNov 01, 2010
These children range in ages from newborn to 10.  Money is tight, but I always try to send them something just for them.  But as time has passed their numbers have increased.  How much is too little?  I was thinking in the range of 15-20?  Any input - I don't want to be too cheap - or should I just send a "family giftcard" for all?  These children are two for each family I usually send to. ...

No Gifts PleaseOct 18, 2009
My husband and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in January, and we plan on having a small dinner party for about 20 people at the alumni club at the university where we met (and our youngest son is currently a student.)  We don't want anyone to give us gifts because:  1.  We're throwing the party ourselves, so it would be tacky to expect gifts anyway; and, 2. we really do feel blessed just as we are, don't need anything more and don't want our gue ...

Wow, Today Is The Day For GiftsDec 16, 2010
So first I got a fruit basket delivered today from one of my accounts.  Very nice.  Then I got my mail and there was a X-mas card from our next door neighbor. They are retired, in their 80s, and live in Florida for the winter.  Since we live in an area that has plenty of snow, we (usually me) shovel or snowblow their sidewalk whenever needed.  In the past they have always sent a X-mas card with a check for my husband for doing the snowblowing, I think usually about $50.  ...

First Communion Gifts?May 08, 2012
I have 2 nieces who will be having their First Communion this coming weekend. A little background: Their father (my husband's brother) is an atheist. Their mother is Catholic but rarely attends church. My feeling is that she's going through this First Communion rigamarole to please her very devout Catholic family. I was raised Catholic but separated from the Church many years ago, and I guess you could say I'm agnostic. My question involves First Communion gifts. It doesn't f ...

Anyone Hear Of Grace Adele And/or 31 Gifts?Sep 02, 2013
I've been invited to two friends' parties. One is Grace Adele/Scentsy and the other is 31. Has anyone heard of these or gone to one of these parties or own any of these products? I've checked out their websites and think it's pretty pricey for their stuff. Is it worth it? To me if I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'd rather save up and buy Coach. I hate to turn down invites but if I go then I feel obligated to buy and then I either overspend or feel guil ...

The Christmas FruitcakeDec 08, 2011
I say there are two kinds of people in this world, those who like fruitcake and those who don't; my son tells me I am wrong, there are three kinds of people in this world, those who are good at math and those who are not. I like fruitcake, I admit it, I'm not ashamed to say so -- so last night I bought a little itty-bitty $3.99 fruitcake to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with a cup of herbal tea and a small slice after I finish work.  My son, on the other hand, says "Ug ...
