Anyone hear of Grace Adele and/or 31 gifts?

Posted: Sep 2, 2013

I've been invited to two friends' parties. One is Grace Adele/Scentsy and the other is 31. Has anyone heard of these or gone to one of these parties or own any of these products? I've checked out their websites and think it's pretty pricey for their stuff. Is it worth it? To me if I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'd rather save up and buy Coach. I hate to turn down invites but if I go then I feel obligated to buy and then I either overspend or feel guilty that I just ate all their food and then ducked out early w/o buying anything. Plus I hate the pressure of booking a party. My friends having these parties are broke, that's why they're hosting one, and I know they wouldn't spend money on my party if I had one so I don't bother. Anyway, are these products worth it or not?;

31 - purses, etc.

Scentsy is a brand of candles. I think there are wick candles and electric ones. They might sell other stuff, too, but that's their main product.

Thirty-one sells all sorts of things like totes, purses, wallets, etc. that you can have personalized with a person's name. It's big in the diaper bag business.

I used to love going to these types of parties, but they're pretty pricey. I found that either I didn't want anything or if I did, I couldn't afford it. So I just don't go. I feel bad if I go and eat the refreshments and then don't buy anything. And they ALL push you to book parties.

These days, my friends and I are all in the same boat financially, so we do things like meet for coffee at a coffee shop or go to free concerts in the park, etc.

Thanks... - ???

Good idea about meeting for coffee. I love that. I agree with you and just shouldn't go. The last time I hosted a party was a few years ago for Party Lite b/c my best friend does that and I got some good deals and alot of stuff for cheap, but I invited 30+ people and had 5 show up and 3 actually buy something. I think I spent more on refreshments than my party total but I got a great hostest deal for that money that I couldn't pass up so it was worth it.

Now if they only had couponing parties....

You should totally organize one! - SAM

That's actually a great idea, ???. Since you and your friends are pretty much on a strict budgets, you could do a potluck couponing party, where everyone brings a dish or appetizer and coupons to trade. You could even put a bunch of random coupons into an envelope and have a drawing at the end of the party to win the "mystery envelope."

With everyone bringing a dish to pass and everyone bringing coupons to exchange, it really wouldn't cost much at all, and yet you'd all have a great reason to get together and have some fun.

Anyway, I think you should be a pioneer amongst your friends and have the first official coupon party!
OMG you are awesome! That's a great idea!!! n/m - ???

That comment you made just made my lightbulb go off but you'd have probably thought of it eventually all on your own.

If you have one, post back and let us know. I'd love to know how it worked out.

Sold Scentsy for 3 years but refused to sell Grace Adele - please do save your money

in my opinion scentsy is worth it for the wax but not any of their other stuff. I cannot see paying $200 for a bag. I think 31 is overpriced too. I actually love the LuLu bag of lines at JcPenny. Super cute and well priced. If i'm going to buy a lesser known line that would be it.

Try Tastefully Simple... - love to eat

...if you want to have a party or go to one. I love their stuff. You get to sample some of the products, so everyone gets to nibble on stuff. There are certain spices that I buy and use on all kinds of foods. They might seem a little expensive but they last a long time and can make ho-hum foods taste like gourmet.

Thanks again all... - ???

If I do have a coupon party I will definitely post about it on here!

I have heard of Tastefully Simple, my friend swears by the garlic one. My hairdresser sells it so maybe I will have a party for her. I have tried some of their stuff from a sampler I bought at a fair a few years ago and liked it. Something like that I wouldn't mind splurging on b/c I know spices can last a long time if stored properly. Plus I need all the help I can get in the cooking department LOL

I was also thinking the other day about these home parties in general, like if my husband went to a "tool party" at his friend's house for example and bought a whole bunch of crap how would I feel about it? But of course a guy will argue that tools are needed and all that other stuff isn't, which may be true. That keeps me from getting store credit cards too.

No Gifts PleaseOct 18, 2009
My husband and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in January, and we plan on having a small dinner party for about 20 people at the alumni club at the university where we met (and our youngest son is currently a student.)  We don't want anyone to give us gifts because:  1.  We're throwing the party ourselves, so it would be tacky to expect gifts anyway; and, 2. we really do feel blessed just as we are, don't need anything more and don't want our gue ...

Christmas GiftsDec 02, 2011
Need advice. We have friends with a 10 YO and an 8 YO.  This may sound silly - but I feel that our friendship has evolved to that of us going to visit them, us sending gifts for holidays, us emailing and calling them.  We always get lovely thank you notes, but they live two hours away and they haven't been to our house in about five years and we haven't been to theirs in 2 years (husband refuses to go over there until they come here)!  .  Am I beating an old re ...

Wow, Today Is The Day For GiftsDec 16, 2010
So first I got a fruit basket delivered today from one of my accounts.  Very nice.  Then I got my mail and there was a X-mas card from our next door neighbor. They are retired, in their 80s, and live in Florida for the winter.  Since we live in an area that has plenty of snow, we (usually me) shovel or snowblow their sidewalk whenever needed.  In the past they have always sent a X-mas card with a check for my husband for doing the snowblowing, I think usually about $50.  ...

End Of Year GiftsMay 25, 2010
I'm out of ideas for end of year gifts for teachers. My son will be "graduating" 5th grade Thursday and he's had kind of a rough year. I'd like to get his teacher something out of the ordinary. I usually do gift cards, but anyone out there have any better, more unique ideas? I don't want to spend lots of money, maybe $20 or so...Thanks y'all! ...

First Communion Gifts?May 08, 2012
I have 2 nieces who will be having their First Communion this coming weekend. A little background: Their father (my husband's brother) is an atheist. Their mother is Catholic but rarely attends church. My feeling is that she's going through this First Communion rigamarole to please her very devout Catholic family. I was raised Catholic but separated from the Church many years ago, and I guess you could say I'm agnostic. My question involves First Communion gifts. It doesn't f ...

Baking Christmas Gifts...Oct 19, 2009
At my husband's family get together last weekend, I realized that my husband's family is just too huge to keep buying individual Christmas presents (15 adults and 5 kids, not counting his dad and my parents) plus our 3 kids so I've decided to get nice containers like a hatbox and fill it with baked goods, spiced pecans and jar mixes for each family. So my questions are: What jar mixes do you like to give/receive? What baked goods do you like to give/receive? TIA ...

My little guy has 1 teacher and 1 assistant in preschool, so I would need for them too. Also my big guy has a bus driver and an assistant so I want to get them a little something as well. Ex isn't responding to my questions of what he's getting the kids for Christmas out of their list they created of requested items and blows me off when I ask him directly.  He has a good job and money - so it's not as if he's lacking.     Funny thing is that while married he'd want to spend like crazy on Christmas gifts for them and now we're divorced he has become Mr. Jerk in t ...
