Christmas gift cards for friend's kids and great nieces and nephews

Posted: Nov 1, 2010

These children range in ages from newborn to 10.  Money is tight, but I always try to send them something just for them.  But as time has passed their numbers have increased.  How much is too little?  I was thinking in the range of 15-20?  Any input - I don't want to be too cheap - or should I just send a "family giftcard" for all?  These children are two for each family I usually send to.

they will be grateful to get a gift at all. I would be. Don't break yourself giving out expensive gifts. I am always just as happy with a card! :D

I think most kids would be happy with anything - sm

Kids under the age of 10 are going to be excited about anything. I might ask the parents about what the kids are into. My younger boys would be happier with a 10 action figure than a lot of 20 dollar toys.

We went through this a few years ago as all of the kids were increasing. I'm not sure if you have children or not, but we asked for all of the kids to draw names, and that has worked great.

Thanks for your input - it did help! - oaf

When you buy cards - what kind do you typically go for ?? Do you get..... Religious, Santa, Funny, Primitive, Etc??What do you say? Do you just sign your name, or do you add a line too?We send about 50-60 cards. Due to the amount we send, we're always having to buy new for the next time anyway. LOL Though I will say, the best time to buy is at the end of the year THIS year. Not next Christmas season, buy them when they're on Clearance for 75% off! ...

Has Anyone Ever Had Parents Take Back A Christmas Gift?Feb 14, 2013
My husband and I do not get along with my stepdad.  He is greedy and just a terrible person.  Too much to go into.  We had words with him.  Anyways, he decided he would take back a Christmas gift that was from my mom and him last year.  It was an outside TV antenna.  He said it was his and he was taking it back.  I thought when you gave someone a gift it was theirs?  I just said ok whatever.   ...

Unique Christmas Gift IdeasDec 03, 2013
We all could use some unique gift ideas. If you have a special person that loves gourmet food and unique kitchen gifts, La Tienda (tienda.com) is a great idea. NO, I have no affiliation, but we have special friends who love gourmet food and such. The place isn't cheap, so it is not something we do every day, but we do buy from them every Christmas. The food is delicious--Spanish cuisine--as in Spain, Spain over in Europe. A lot of it does not have to be cold-packed, so there's plenty o ...

Buying Potted Herbs For Christmas GiftNov 24, 2009
My hubby is really hard to buy for. He is the cook in the family and uses lots of herbs, usually buying them in the store in the vegetable section, not the dried variety. I was wondering if anyone has ever bought in the plant section and if so how do they do? I think he would love being able to do his own picking straight from a fresh herb. ...

Handcrafted, Inexpensive Christmas Gift Ideas. Dec 01, 2014
Hi everyone! I have been working on some inexpensive Christmas gift ideas and wanted to see what everyone else might have to share. Here are a few: 1. Keep or find clean, empty baby food jars. Using hot glue, attach a cute, tiny figurine to the lid. Then fill the empty jar partially with cheap oil, glutter, and water. Glue the lid to the jar. Turn it upside down and you have a snow globe! 2. Gather those really giant huge acorns, take them home and shine them. Cut out a cardboard wreath. U ...

Looks Like Ex Isn't Sending Kids Christmas GiftsDec 15, 2015
First Christmas since the divorce and I have the kids for the holidays. Ex isn't responding to my questions of what he's getting the kids for Christmas out of their list they created of requested items and blows me off when I ask him directly.  He has a good job and money - so it's not as if he's lacking.     Funny thing is that while married he'd want to spend like crazy on Christmas gifts for them and now we're divorced he has become Mr. Jerk in t ...

Just Received A Great Gift That I Had No Idea Jan 04, 2014
I love to listen to audiobooks on MP3 players that I get from the library, but as I had pretty much gone through the selection at the library, I was going to buy a portable CD player to wear while I cook, do chores, etc. For my anniversary, my husband bought me a Sansa Clip Zip MP3 and I can download books through our library website and there are about 3000 titles, so I will have a lot of happy hours of listening. I had no idea that even existed! I'm so thrilled. If you like to listen ...

To Send Or Not To Send Christmas Cards? SmDec 17, 2010
In the age of cell phones and computers, I figure that I would text Merry Christmas to everyone and/or send free e-cards via email or other social network sites. Some disagree with me that that is too informal, lazy, what have you. I do have some cards that I do send to people with no phone, PC, or do not have their number or email, i.e. elderly folks and neighbors. My thoughts on this are: A. I already pay for my cell phone and email so texting and e-cards are free. B. I can send the same car ...

Check Your Credit CardsFeb 24, 2013
If you've gotten a new credit card recently, it may have an RFID chip embedded in it. It will have ))))) printed on it. I think Chase cards are using it, but others will follow. These cards can be scanned by anyone with a scanner and get your information. You can call the company and request a card without the chip, or buy an RFID protective sleeve or wallet (dirt cheap on Amazon). Big brother is watching us! ...

Credit Cards & Lending Money To The PeopleSep 16, 2010
Does it bother you at all if they say they cannot pay anything back yet when they seem to be running out spending money left and right on random stuff while that interest on that card starts going up. You know it will get to you at some point you just do not know how long it will take and then it bothers you that after so much time these cards were paid off and now there is a balance on them, however it was a choice said card holder made and I just think said person is feeling odd about h ...

Going Away GiftJun 01, 2010
What do you give to someone as a going-away gift that you've only known for five months?  She's a very nice person.  We didn't spend a whole lot of time together, mostly just at school functions, and a couple of times outside of that, for coffee, but with a group, not just her and me.  Is it even appropriate that I get her a little something?  I've been invited to a little going-away luncheon for her tomorrow and I don't have any idea.  Flowers m ...

Worst Gift Ever?Dec 06, 2010
I got this from another board and it was actually funny to read. When we got married 18 years ago we got a plunger from my mom's friend thou she did get us another gift also that one was just funny. We got margaritia glasses and neither us were old enough to drink either. I used those for dessert glasses for a bit but ended up over time breaking them. I can't think of any really really bad gifts but those 2 stick out in my mind for some reason. So what has been yours? ...

A Husband's GiftFeb 28, 2010
Dear Diary, For my birthday this year, my husband purchased for me a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. Friends seemed plea ...

Graduation GiftMay 16, 2013
Need help, don't want to give cold cash for college grad. It seems cards like AMEX, etc. have hidden fees when used. Also, what do you consider appropriate for a BS degree? Kind of stumped here, lots of different levels of graduation coming at once in the next 3-4 years. Just want to be fair. Thanks. ...
