First Communion gifts?

I have 2 nieces who will be having their First Communion this coming weekend. A little background: Their father (my husband's brother) is an atheist. Their mother is Catholic but rarely attends church. My feeling is that she's going through this First Communion rigamarole to please her very devout Catholic family. I was raised Catholic but separated from the Church many years ago, and I guess you could say I'm agnostic. My question involves First Communion gifts. It doesn't feel right to me to give my nieces, say, a Bible or a rosary or some other religious gift, and giving them a gift card or money also doesn't seem right to me (I should mention that these kids are rather spoiled and want for absolutely nothing). Another thing I should mention is that my nieces seem to be more excited about wearing a white dress and veil than in the actual sacrament. Does anyone have any ideas about an appropriate First Communion gift (if at all)? My feelings are very conflicted about this, but I just want to keep the peace in the family. Any sincere comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

For our niece's/godchild's First Communion, we gave her a gold charm bracelet with an angel charm (with the first letter of her first name) and a cross charm. Every birthday and Christmas, we add a charm to the bracelet. She is now 15 and still loves getting those new charms. Plus, it is something she will have forever.

So first I got a fruit basket delivered today from one of my accounts. Very nice. Then I got my mail and there was a X-mas card from our next door neighbor. They are retired, in their 80s, and live in Florida for the winter. Since we live in an area that has plenty of snow, we (usually me) shovel or snowblow their sidewalk whenever needed. I'm out of ideas for end of year gifts for teachers. My son will be "graduating" 5th grade Thursday and he's had kind of a rough year. I'd like to get his teacher something out of the ordinary. At my husband's family get together last weekend, I realized that my husband's family is just too huge to keep buying individual Christmas presents (15 adults and 5 kids, not counting his dad and my parents) plus our 3 kids so I've decided to get nice containers like a hatbox and fill it with baked goods, spiced pecans and jar mixes for each family. Anyone have any good ideas for teachers gifts? I was thinking of gift cards, but am always so unsure of how much to put on them. My 1 son has 1 teacher and 3 assistants in his rooom throughout the week (1 full time and 2 part time helpers), so I would need to buy for all 4 of them. I've been invited to two friends' parties. One is Grace Adele/Scentsy and the other is 31. Has anyone heard of these or gone to one of these parties or own any of these products?
