Best Christmas Ever

Posted: Dec 30, 2009

Hope all of you wonderful ladies had a good Christmas!!! My fabulous husband got me for tickets to see Bon Jovi in July. I have been waiting over 20 years to see them live and can hardly wait. What did you get for Christmas that you loved???

A CAR!!! Got the new CAMERO! (then gave hubby his "present"!) Have fun at Bon Jovi, you're gonna love the show!

Wow - people actually DO get cars for Christmas? - I thought that was only in TV commercials!

[ In Reply To ..]
I keep seeing that ad with the Lexus with the big red bow on it, and think to myself, "Now REALLY! Who gives someone a huge gift like a car for Christmas, especially an expensive LEXUS?" Anyway, wow - a Camaro - that's incredible!

I got a car, too. - But I also got the car payments!

[ In Reply To ..]
It was more like the gift was the decision to finally replace the 13-year-old minivan that was starting to spend more and more time in the shop. We hang onto our cars for a long time, and we were hoping to get at least another year out of that one. So, we took advantage of the Toyota-thon and bought a 2010 Rav-4 at 0% interest. My husband is a CPA, and so he considers all purchases carefully and stretches everything to the limit. I'll probably have this car for 15 years. (We also donated a '91 Camry this year, so when I say we keep our cars, I do mean that we keep our cars!)

for Christmas - cj

A wonderful Christmas here as well. Not a particular gift item, just that I got to see the grandkids! We are 2000 miles apart and I only see them once or twice a year, which breaks my heart. This year I flew there and got to see them open gifts (they are 2-1/2 and 9 months). The 9-month-old had more fun crawling around in the piles of tissue paper than anything else so that was totally fun to see, but watching that 2-1/2-year-old - that is just pure joy! The best gift of all is time with the people we love, isn't it. We went to church together with the family. Had a huge Christmas brunch after the kids opened their gifts and a great dinner with other family members who also live there.

That said, my hubby gave me this new set of pots and pans that I wanted so badly but couldn't bring myself to pay for!! I love to cook so I am thrilled with them!

That sounds WONDERFUL! I live far away from my grandson also. It would have been wonderful to see him for Christmas... You are blessed.

Nice! What color???

gray/black stripes. It's the "transformer package"! I have never, ever had a new car. Used to have an old ugly one, hubby kept that in the garage as a project car and made it nice. This gift was above and beyond on his part. It's so unexpected and so wonderful! (He said that's my Christmas gift allotment for the next 10 years!! haha!)

Nice present! I'd go for the Mustang. Ford has done it a lot of justice after changing the style for so long. That engine sounds sweet.

My best present this Christmas was spent with my - L

oppositional daughter and a nice Christmas just us 2. I see her often but it usually is not peaceful and Christmas was that, peaceful. Wish every time was just that same way.

My husband got "me" a Playstation 3 and the guitar hero game. haha!

Guitar Hero - perkie

I got Guitar Hero for Mother's Day this year. We are absolutely addicted to Guitar Hero in our house! Love it, love it, love it!

Not a thing I really wanted but - Backwards Typist

I got a battery-operated can opener that doesn't leave sharp edges, a food steamer, an infra-red massager for all my aches and pains, a phone, and 2 boxes of candy (really needed those!).

I was hoping for a new dishwasher (I've been babying my 15-yo one), and DH said that's what he wanted to get me but he didn't get his last pay, owed since late Oct.

But, hey, it's not about receiving, it's about giving! I can wait. I got a gas cooktop 2 years ago and it's still using the first propane tank. That saved us a lot of money (and I cook on it every day).

gift - Brilliant Disguise

An engagement ring! 1/2 carat princess infinity cut, platinum, riser setting. I am over the moon! (waiting this man out for 2 years now! I thought I was going to have to ask him!)

Happy New Year everyone! Wishing you the happiness I feel right now!!

Congratulations Brillant Disguise - LinK

My hubby gave me a gift certificate to be used in Shenandoah Nat'l Park. I LOVE SNP and go there often. The GC was enough for the two of us to spend a nice weekend in one of the lodges. I'm thinking September would be a great time to go... after kids are back in school and the park will be quiet and lovely.

What a great present. I've always wanted to see Bon Jovi. Have a great time. My present this year was tickets to see Rob Thomas. It was an early present. The concert was two weeks before Christmas.

OMG Enjoy the show...I am sure by July my family will be SOOOO sick of me and my Ipod singing around the house and in the car and out side, etc. Your boyfriend is definitely a keeper!

My husband didn't get me anything... - kind of sad

Oh well...

My husband asked me what to get me for Christmas - L

[ In Reply To ..]
and I could hardly think of anything and finally told him either a billfold or an umbrella, yep those are things I have been wanting and have not gotten so far for myself. When I look at my husband, he is a package in himself. He makes me laugh, he buys me things when he shops, saying he was thinking about me, he told me the other day he thinks about me probably every hour out of the day, he is there when I need him the most, he is my love, my protector and when I think of all this, there is nothing much more for me to want really. "Things" come and go but a person could never have such a gift as what this man has brought into my life. Perhaps you are lucky such as I am. Think about what you have instead of something you did not get for 1 day out of the year.

Does he have a brother? - Happy MT Robin

Seriously, you sound very blessed to have found such a life mate. Good for you.

I'm not blessed with a husband like yours though... - kind of sad

[ In Reply To ..]
Don't get me wrong, I love him dearly, but he is difficult sometimes. I still enjoyed giving him gifts I'd gotten for him. He is wishy washy I guess you'd call it. Sometimes I am wonderful to him and sometimes he can't stand me. I didn't make much of not getting anything, but it kind of hurt my feelings.

Good for you! That would be a blast! Jon is still so gorgeous and so is Richie (love his harmony!)! Our last concert was Roger Waters (from Pink Floyd). Man, marijuana is only fun if you're smoking it, not just sitting in a haze of it. LOL! His voice was as incredible as ever and his backup singers were great too. We saw Metallica a couple of times in the 90's but since Hubby was out to sea so much, I spent most of my stadium time at NFL games, not concerts - Foxboro, Meadowlands, Fawcett in Canton.

Anymore, after 18 years, Hubby and I exchange cards and that's it. Both of us really want to retire early and are trying to save as much as possible. Plus, with what's going on with the economy, we could very well go from paying $1200 a year for health insurance to $12,000. Who knows what is going to happen with my job? I'd much rather live like a grinch right now and live it up when I get older. That's the plan, anyway. I ain't working until I'm 70. For my birthday, I defer all presents to Ohio Pug Rescue (www.ohiopugrescue.com). I tell people to buy dog toys, biscuits, food, etc. or send money there in lieu of buying me anything (my mom just sent them a donation in memory of Toby after I had to put him down). Those poor abandoned, abused or neglected dogs need things more than I do. I have God. I have my basic needs. And I have my family and 2 dogs. That's all I need in live. And I enjoy watching people receive more than having things given to me. And none of those dogs did anything to deserve the treatment they got.

Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not slamming anyone for anything material they got. I'm extremely happy for all of you. We did that for years. We just got to the point where we had everything we needed really. Kinda happens when you're not able to have children. You've got a lot of extra money, we were in the military so we had no mortgage and we bought whatever we wanted. Then we bought a house.... Now, we're poor. And cluttered LOL. I just want to simplify my life now. I'm not confident enough at my age to be a foster parent, so I do dog rescue and help out homeless dogs.

Glad you're all enjoying your presents! Have fun with them! I'm glad to hear some here got to spend time with grandchildren they hadn't seen in awhile. Time with family is very precious.

Well, I have 2 pugs giving me very dirty looks. I swear, they can tell time. I should have logged off 1/2 ago. Stinkers.

God bless you all. I hope you're having a great New Year's Day.

Don't slam me for saying this, but go Ohio State! Hope Duron Carter (former NFL great Cris Carter's son) gets a little playing time.

So.....What's On Your Christmas Table? SmDec 12, 2011
Or your Hanukkah table or however you choose to celebrate the season?  I'm not here to split hairs on what we call it.  I just thought it would be interesting to share some of our favorite foods of the season....maybe a recipe or two. The Christmas FruitcakeDec 08, 2011
I say there are two kinds of people in this world, those who like fruitcake and those who don't; my son tells me I am wrong, there are three kinds of people in this world, those who are good at math and those who are not. I like fruitcake, I admit it, I'm not ashamed to say so -- so last night I bought a little itty-bitty $3.99 fruitcake to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with a cup of herbal tea and a small slice after I finish work.  My son, on the other hand, says "Ug ...

Christmas ServiceDec 25, 2013
I just wanted to share this with everyone as I think it is so awesome. My church had a Christmas Eve service last night. We sang carols, the old ones. Now my church is small and our choir during the year has at best 20 members. A lot of people came in for the holidays to spend with their families and some of them joined our choir for the service which raised it up to about 30 members, more or less. Well the main hymn, anthem or whatever was the Halleuia (?) chorus from Handel's messiah ...

Baking Christmas Gifts...Oct 19, 2009
At my husband's family get together last weekend, I realized that my husband's family is just too huge to keep buying individual Christmas presents (15 adults and 5 kids, not counting his dad and my parents) plus our 3 kids so I've decided to get nice containers like a hatbox and fill it with baked goods, spiced pecans and jar mixes for each family. So my questions are: What jar mixes do you like to give/receive? What baked goods do you like to give/receive? TIA ...

Obama's NEW CHRISTMAS TREE TAXNov 08, 2011
This is beyond the pale in its audicity -- and political STUPIDITY.  With everyone out of work and/or broke, now only ~46 days before Christnmas, Obama imposes a 15-cent-per-tree tax for sellers of over 500 trees to pay.  OF COURSE, LIKE ALL SUCH TAXES, this will be passed on to the CONSUMERS, resulting in HIGHER PRICES.  What an unbelievably STUPID move poitically -- this one will go down in the history books.  Everyone is already calling him "Grinch." ...
