The idea is to require people who have cadillac coverages

Posted: Sep 14, 2013

One of the things I'm not crazy about in this interim period before costs are brought more in line is Obamacare's throwing more responsibility on us for shopping for prices.

People who belong to unions will not get a break on this--i.e., they won't still be able to just go to any hospital or doctor, no matter how overpriced, and have it all covered by insurance that costs no more than that most people have.

Right now, people are going to their $600/hour cardiac or other specialists to have their prescriptions for sleeping pills renewed--instead of their primary care providers. This is coming to a stop. More of what all this is about.

I have to see all sorts of specialists related to my illness. My cardiologist is only willing to prescribe for my BP/cardiology problems, my primary will not give me an Rx for anything related to my oncology issues, not even pain meds, and so forth. It would be nice if my doctors would give treat misc problems as I could avoid some doctor visits, but they won't. There is NOTHING good about Obama care in my experience.

I meant to respond to the post just below, CS. This is a - significant factor nationally that

[ In Reply To ..]
has caused prices for medical care that are far above those in comparable countries. Only one of many, and, as in your cases, not all specialists are billing for services they shouldn't provide, but it is a significant problem. The Obama administration is addressing the critical shortage of PCPs resulting from underpay for them and overpay for specialists.

BTW, this is not my opinion or my experience. All reputable experts agree on this.

I saw my family doctor during the end of August, - Libby

[ In Reply To ..]
and a very nice medical student/resident sat in on my visit with my blessings.

I talked to her about what I'd been hearing about a major shortage of PCPs because of Obamacare, a lot of which I read on this board.

She said she's not in it for the money but to help sick people (pretty much like the teachers who teach because they simply want to HELP their fellow human beings, not the "vultures" that are portrayed on this board and in other places all over the internet.

Not only does she WANT to be a PCP, but she wants to remain in my doctor's office to practice. A person with values like hers will be my choice EVERY TIME over someone who only cares about the money.
The shortage of PCPs is because it pays much less. - Obamacare is RAISING compensation for them,
[ In Reply To ..]
lowering compensation for grossly overpaid specialties. So, PCPs are happy and hopefully more students will become PCPs in future as a result. Specialists are not happy. Oh, well.

People like your medical student show up for the lie that it is the medical profession's longstanding claim that lowering compensation would mean only inferior people would want to become doctors. I also have seen more bored uncaring physicians than anyone should and would love to see THEM discouraged from entering the field.

that has nothing to do with obamacare - nm

Well, yes. It does. Obamacare is COMPREHENSIVE - healthcare system reform. nm

You always have to see the appropriate doctor for scripts. A cardiologist isn't going to renew someone's psychotropic meds, and the shrink isn't going to give a patient Lipitor.

Children staying on their parent's policies and no refusal of insurance for pre-existing conditions. So, no, nothing to do with Obamacare.
I believe there is a lot more in effect, just not all the - coverages for patients yet. nm

cardiology office visits do NOT cost $600/hr - nm

[ In Reply To ..]

Cardiologists seldom spend half an hour with one patient. - Think about it.

[ In Reply To ..]
That's probably low for a well equipped practice in an urban area. The office/support costs for a cardiologist are very high, including costs for real estate, physician assistant, in-office electrocardiography equipment, and the rest of the iceberg. After all costs, the AVERAGE cardiologist takes home close to $400K. (That doesn't include extra income from such things as investment in radiology labs they send patients to part ownership of the hospital they send patients to, and so on.)

You're Gonna Pay For That-Obamacare's Cadillac TaxNov 12, 2014
They might want to think about changing the name of Obamacare's "Cadillac Tax" to a "Ferrari Tax." A new report that details the effects of a looming Obamacare excise tax on employer-sponsored health plans highlights the big bucks large companies will have to dole out starting in 2018 and how employees might end up getting stuck with much of the costs if bosses blanch at the tax bill.   The American Health Policy Institute analysis found that big companies subject to ...

ObamaCare's Whopping Cadillac Tax Under FireNov 19, 2014
More fallout from the deceit of the Obama Administration. Nancy was right. We'll have to pass it to find out what's in it. She forgot to add that we'll have to pass it to find out more ABOUT it. Per link: Of all the taxes in ObamaCare, none is more onerous than the whopping 40 percent Cadillac tax on the more generous employer-provided health care plans, which often are union plans. The now-famous former outside adviser on ObamaCare, Jonathan Gruber of MIT, spoke about the Cadi ...

CT First To Require GMO LabelingJun 05, 2013
Only problem is, it will only take effect if 4 other states also do it and one state has to border CT.  Didn't CT ever hear of David and Goliath? I think if they went ahead and followed through on the law, other states WOULD follow. Truthfully, it's up to you and me to write our state reps and/or D.C. Congress and get things going. There are bills in committee (did I post those yesterday?) which are H.R. 1699 I.H. related to S.809. Too bad Bernie Sanders S.Amdt 965 was rejected. ...

8 Things That Require More Time, Info Or Effort Than Owning A GunDec 16, 2012
1. Voting.  Most states require advance registration, 30 days in some, before election day.  With a few exceptions, in most states guns can go home with you on the day of purchase.  Private sale purchases required no ID, whereas some states require voter ID. 2. Antihistamines.  The monthly allowable amount of pseudoephedrine for individual purchase has war-on-drugs restrictions in place, as it is a component for manufacturing methamphetamine.   It’s kept unde ...

Obama Says NCAA Should Require Schools To Give Guaranteed ScholarshipsMar 22, 2015
Add President Obama to the list of people who thinks college athletes deserve more than they get. In an interview with the Huffington Poston Friday, the president said that the NCAA should require schools to offer guaranteed athletic scholarships “no matter what.” "Students need to be taken better care of because they are generating a lot of revenue here," Obama said. "An immediate step that the NCAA could take – that some conferences have already taken – is if you ...

WP: "Yes, Ted Cruz Is A Hypocrite" (ACA Law Does NOT Require Insurance Purchase)Mar 27, 2015
The joke that just keeps getting funnier, but some may have to take the party glasses off in order to see it.  This by no means is exclusive to left OR right, but it's funny when they get caught, after trying to convince you they're so "different" than the rest. As I said the other day under another comment, Ted Cruz DOES have the option to "opt out" - he would have to pay a penalty, yes, but he CAN opt out and pay out-of-pocket for health expenses, like so many other Americans h ...

Saw A Neat IdeaMay 31, 2013
We often talk about what should the kids do while you're working. I saw the neatest idea in a Heloise column. The person said to take raw rice, place it in a bin of sorts (I'm thinking dishpan), and get a toy shovel and pail and other "beach" items. It gave instructions on how to dye the rice pretty colors, but I don't remember those instructions. Anyway, it sounds like something a 2 to 4year-old would totally enjoy. Little kids love to fill things up, dump them, fill them up aga ...

Democrats Like A Romney Idea On Income TaxNov 14, 2012
