Anyone have an idea how to wear glasses with a nose injury?

Posted: Oct 20, 2010

Yesterday, my husband was grinding the rust off a metal lawn mower deck. The grinder caught on a piece of metal and in a flash, bouced up, hit his safety goggles and knocked them and his glasses to the top of his head and took a little chunk from the side of his nose (thankfully did not hit his eye) right where the nose piece sits about 1 inch, plus gave him 'road rash' on the tip. He's having trouble wearing his glasses. We have tried everything we can think of to make his glasses fit comfortably.

He refuses to go to the ER saying that there's nothing they can do that he can't do himself.  Any ideas whow to make his glasses sit on his nose comfortably?

Thanks.

go to the ER for that if nothing else.

Other than trying to pad it with some fluffy/cottony gauze and then letting the glasses just lightly rest on top of that, I doubt there's much else to be done. Hope he heals up okay, and I'd follow the advice of the previous poster about the tetanus shot. Best of luck!

What about a "Croakie" strap - the kind normally - used with sport sunglasses?

And/or some kind of soft, padded bandage over the bridge of the nose to protect it?

First thing I asked about was his tetanus shot. He refused to go to the ER.

We tried fluffy cotton, sponges, everything. Nothing worked. He finally bent his nosepieces a little differently and that helped somewhat. I suggested to bend the ends of the ear pieces a bit, too.

When it first happened, we immediately "washed" hydrogen peroxide about 3 times. Then applied a Band-Aid, which he took off that night, re-did the HP, and left it open to the air while sleeping. The next day, he did the HP, then a antibiotic pad and a Band-Aid. He didn't like the looks of it (it did look ugly), so about 4 hours ater he did the HP again and applied Neosporin. That gave the same ugly appearance....so at bedtime,he did the HP again. This morning it looks pretty good.

He still looks like Rudolf at the tip, but he doesn't have any pain in the large wound (1 inch long and 1/4 inch wide) or the tip. It probably will be a large scar when it completely heals, but it won't be the first. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all will work out well.

Seems obvious to me. Get a monicle. - nm

Chiropractor InjuryApr 02, 2014
Anyone ever heard of someone being seriously injured by a chiropractor? Friend is paralyzed on one side after having something done by a chiropractor and immediately felt a "zing" down his spine and then could not walk.  I am wondering if he was injured or this is a coincidence.  Thought I would ask here to see if anyone had ever done a report on a person damaged dramatically by chiropractic.   ...

Not sure where to turn with this. My sister suffered a fall a year and a half ago with many broken bones and a moderate head injury. She was in the hospital and rehab for months and came home. She has several cognitive deficits and is extremely depressed about not being able to work. She had her own business and a great deal of her self esteem was tied to her pr ...

Harry Reid Won't Rule Out Suing Exercise Equipment Maker Over His InjuryJan 22, 2015
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday made his first public media appearance since an exercise mishap left him with a severely injured eye and four broken ribs. Reid had been working out with resistance bands in his new home earlier this month when one snapped, injuring his right eye and flinging him into a file cabinet, he said. The Nevada Democrat said he expected to be back to full speed soon, and that he planned to run for re-election. But while he was certain about his el ...

What Would You Do - New GlassesDec 14, 2012
Around Oct. 1st went to eye doc and got a new rx. for glasses. I've worn glasses for 40 years and progressives for the last 10 years.  I went to a well-known glasses company to get the glasses. Yes, I'm fortunate to have some insurance, but still paid over $350 out of pocket because I went ahead and got the best of the best progressives as they said it would do away with the blurriness at the edges that comes with progressives.  At any rate, got the new glasses and couldn ...

Anyone Use And Have An Opinion On Those Gunnar Optik Computer Glasses? Sep 01, 2011
I have been getting horrible headaches, prob migraines, and I think it's bc of the eyestrain staring at my screen prob 12 or more hours a day.  I was hoping to hear from someone who uses or has used these glasses before.  My regular reading glasses give me a headache too when used on the computer.  I am hoping these are different, but they are kind of pricey at about 80 bux.  But if I knew they worked it would be worth it.   Thanks in Advance! ...

What Should I Wear?Jul 12, 2012
Okay, I have to attend an evening (5:30 p.m.) wedding over Labor Day weekend that's being held outdoors in some sort of garden venue.  What the heck do I wear?  I'm so sick of wearing black to everything, but everything I'm seeing online is either too casual for evening or too formal for the venue, or only comes in the color white (not an option, obviously...).  If it helps any, I'm a size 14, very proportionate with chest and hips about the same size, but I do ...

What To Wear Under A ShirtJun 11, 2010
I found the most beautiful shirt!  It's sleeveless, has thin elastic at the waist and drapes snuggly over the lower waist and hips.  It is a thin poly cotton blend, so it needs something underneath, but strapless bra looks bulky, and I'm, well not "heavy" chested, but well-endowed, so need support.  I just want a smooth, well supported look without the headlights showing! You know that government can’t restrict your speech. Officially. But they can in all kinds of practical ways, just as they can do lots of other things to you without ever really taking an official action against you. Take the famous “Don’t Tread On Me” cap. Congress will never pass a law that says you can’t wear that cap, just because politicians may not like what the cap stands for. Constitutionally, Congress cannot do so. But if you think that means the government can’t come do ...

Pagan Priest Wins Right To Wear Goat Horns In License Photo,Dec 17, 2016
It doesn’t matter how many articles of clothing Phelan Moonsong puts on before walking out the door each day: If he’s not wearing his favorite pair of goat horns, the Pagan priest might as well be naked. Unless the 56-year-old Millinocket, Maine, man is sleeping or bathing, his beloved horns are rarely far from his scalp. It’s been that way since he first laid eyes on the horns at a Pagan men’s group gathering in 2009. A friend whose goat had recently died offered the horns to gr ...

Saw A Neat IdeaMay 31, 2013
We often talk about what should the kids do while you're working. I saw the neatest idea in a Heloise column. The person said to take raw rice, place it in a bin of sorts (I'm thinking dishpan), and get a toy shovel and pail and other "beach" items. It gave instructions on how to dye the rice pretty colors, but I don't remember those instructions. Anyway, it sounds like something a 2 to 4year-old would totally enjoy. Little kids love to fill things up, dump them, fill them up aga ...
