Do you know that when Romney was being...

Posted: Jul 16, 2012

considered for the vice presidency in 2008 he released 23 years of tax returns to GOP nominee John McCain?  Now he wants us only to see 1 year, and maybe 2011 in the fall?  What is he hiding?  Me thinks he may be hiding very damning and embarrassing info that he does not want us the voting public to know.

;

Kinda like Obama withholding so much - information about himself?

What's the big deal about tax returns? Are you worried he didn't pay his "fair share," like half of the members of congress and most of the Obama administration?

This is just another distraction from the important issues. If you want to talk disclosure, let's talk about Executive Privledge with Fast and Furious or any of the number of things that really affect our country.

He's probably writing off shoes and outfits - for his dancing horses. LOL.

of tax returns made him less palatable as a running mate than Sarah Palin.

Exactly. Sarah P. a safer bet than Willard's tax returns - nm

It does make you wonder that..... - (see message)

....although I think McCain's disastrous pick of Sarah Palin was recognized by many Republicans only in 20/20 hindsight.

I don't think we'll ever know the honest truth about whether Romney was nixed as McCain's running mate because of what his tax returns might have disclosed or whether McCain just wanted to make a dramatic pick that he thought would be viewed as bold and also broaden his appeal among women. I suspect it's probably more of the latter, but who knows. If it was because they thought Romney's tax returns were too damaging, I can't imagine that Romney would have ridden the Republican nomination process to the very top this time around. Wouldn't the powers-that-be have put the skids on his nomination before now?

That being said, I'd be willing to bet that there are some things in those returns that average Americans would wince about. This is not the time to show deductions, say, for your dressage expenses, as someone elsewhere on this board jokingly said there might be.

Now, now, I'm only kidding....I really have no idea whether there are any deductions like that on Romney's returns. The thought just made me laugh.

Ridiculous - me

If he showed 23 years of tax returns up to 2008, why should he have to show them all again just to get up to 2011? I mean, get with the program, gang. The guy was born rich and knows how to handle his cash and run businesses. What difference does it make about his tax returns? Why not worry about whether he can turn this country around from the disaster Obama has created? And get a handle on immigration so that only legal citizens get jobs? Some people must have too much time on their hands. Neither of these guys is an ideal candidate, but for sure, if we have 4 more years of Obama, we will be a third world country. I sometimes think he was placed here by the terrorists to destroy the USA with his decisions, and thus far, he is doing a wham bang job.
He only showed his tax returns to John McCain, did not - make them public. nm

Well, that's kind of the point. - (see message)

Showing 23 years' worth of tax returns to the McCain campaign isn't quite the same thing as showing them to the public who you are asking to vote for you. You really don't see a difference between releasing one year (so far--eventually says he will release a second year) to the voters and releasing 23 years privately to McCain's camp? If, as you say, he has shown 23 years, then where are they?

Releasing your tax returns has ALWAYS been an issue for candidates running for president. The fact that Romney has a lot more money than some past candidates makes people naturally want to know how he has handled all of that money and to make sure that it's all above board. Refusing to release them makes it seem that you don't want people to see something, whether that's true or not.

Did you not know - that a candidate is not required to release any at

They would be interesting to see, for sure. What about college transcripts? Wonder why Obama sealed his, and no one has been found from his days at Columbia U. that even remembers him. Shenanigans.

Will Willard's police uniform be on display? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Apparently he ran around in college impersonating a police officer. Now that is really creepy.

You say "apparently." - misleading

[ In Reply To ..]
Same as O's camp saying Romney "might have" committed a felony, when that's been proven to be inaccurate. Doesn't matter to the libs - they'll keep the inaccuracy going, hoping it will stick. Dishonest to the core.
Apparently it must be true--all over the Google - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
My comment was in response to an undocumented charge/opinion, yet you complain about my comment/opinion? I don't think anything has been proven to be inaccurate about Romney. Everyday they find more and more documentation about him being in charge of Bain Capital during the outsourcing of American jobs. but why should we care where he makes his money? Maybe he would run the government like his businesses and outsource all federally funded employees.
LOL - that reminds me of the commercial - about how things have to be true
[ In Reply To ..]
if they're on the internet :)

Romney did not personally outsource any jobs. Bain Capital was in charge of the company that outsourced jobs and at that time, outsourcing was a positive thing (NAFTA and all that). But if we're going to talk about outsourcing, how about we talk about how much taxpayer money given by Obama went to create jobs overseas. I think with this issue we should just call it a draw and move on.
NAFTA only has to do with Mexico and Canada - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
not across the ponds. Romney WAS Bain Capital, sole owner, and offshorer in chief.

First of all, it is not true that no one from his..sm - VTMT

days at Columbia remember him. That was debunked long ago. Furthermore, in all my 69 years I don't recall a single president or presidential candidate making his college transcripts public. I don't see Romney releasing his, do you? I could care less about his grades in college but am very interested to see his income tax returns and learn about his offshore bank accounts.

Even everyday people have... - me

[ In Reply To ..]
...offshore bank accounts. It's not rocket science. People have been hiding $$$ for years, not just potential presidential candidates. Let's focus on the important issues - the economy, the lack of closed borders, health care - personally, I find it rather distasteful that tax returns even play a part in this kind of campaign. What we do with our money is our business, and nobody else's. There will be no offshore accounts down the road anyway, it's been mentioned somewhere along the line, if I remember correctly, that those accounts will be taxed eventually....let's live in the moment, gang....just get Obama the hell outa the Oval office. I still don't believe he is a U.S. citizen, lots of gray area there that the Supreme Court won't even follow up on. That is more important to me than someone's tax return.
Are you serious? - nm
