Well, I've made an appointment with a therapist.

Posted: Jun 22, 2010

Which is HUGE for me!  I'm one of these people that puts on a happy face and let's no one in on what's really going on in my personal life.  Every time I have made an appointment like this, I end up canceling it.  So we'll see.

After I posted below and got such encouraging responses and I realized that I had my employee assistance program available to me through the hospital I work for which pays for the first five visits or so of counseling or whatever.  So maybe if I tell myself that I'm not losing anything if I keep the original appointment, I can get myself to go.

I just always feel so silly sitting there boo hooing about my problems to a total stranger.

;

Good for you!!! - Happy MT Robin

I think that rather than feeling silly, you'll feel liberated and enlightened by sharing your problems. Sometimes it's easier to share them with a total stranger than it is with someone you know. There's no expectation of like or dislike that way.

I work part time for a Christian counseling service and the therapists I work with are the best people I know and they truly want to help people.

Take out that "we'll see" from your mind set and just tell yourself you're going to keep the appointment. Don't feel silly about sharing and definitely don't feel silly about getting emotional if that's what happens. I've seen more than one person come out of their counselor's office in tears. they can be very healing if you're going in the right direction.

I'm sending lots of good thoughts your way.

just take it one step at a time - good for you nm

Good for you for recognizing you need some help and for taking steps to obtain it.

I also recommend the book, "Codependent No More" by Melody Beattie.

From your post below, you have DEFINITE boundary issues, so beginning to learn why you short-change yourself and let others walk all over you is an important part of your journey.

You're also at the age where many of us begin to re-evaluate our life experience and our current situation and asking ourselves, "Is this where I want to spend or how I want to spend, the next 25 years?"

I wish you lots of luck!!

I Need A Good Therapist Or A Life Coach.Jun 22, 2010
I am 43 years old and my life is just out of control.  I'm overweight.  I'm married to a total loser who will not work, does not contribute to the household whatsoever, and spends most evenings passed out on my couch.  I have kicked him out numerous times only to be manipulated in letting him move back in -- i.e. he's sick, had surgery and needs help recovering, etc.  I have two kids I spoil.  I give them money when they don't deserve it or I can' ...

APPOINTMENT MONDAY Jan 06, 2012
Monday I go to the hand specialist for de Quervain's tenosynovitis I have had now for two months.   So far all conservative measures have failed.   I had to make the appointment for after January 1, due to a change in insurance for me.   I am dreading the cortisone injection, if he decides to go that way.   I have heard horror stories about wrist injections.    WISH ME LUCK.   I am not proud of being afraid, but I can't h ...

I'd set up an appointment with a lawyer re a minor legal matter, but have since heard some negative things about him and want to cancel. I Need To Make An Appointment To Get Thyroid CheckedFeb 20, 2013
I already posted this in response to someone else's post.  I don't have insurance, but the dentist at the dental school I went to affirmed I have thyroid nodules (really, I have more than one?)  I'm afraid to get this checked out, I don't have insurance, how am I going to afford Synthroid? It's 49 dollars for the office visit + cost of tests.  What if they want to do a biopsy?  I need tires, blah, blah, blah, dental work, blah, blah, blah....   ...

No Time Out Over Recess Appointment Battle Of NLRB's AuthorityMar 16, 2013
Employers and Acting National Labor Relations Board General Counsel Lafe Solomon continue to spar over the NLRB’s authority in the wake of the D.C. Circuit’s 2013 Noel Canning decision invalidating President Obama’s recess appointments of three NLRB Members. Attacks on the Board’s authority have morphed into an all-out offensive by employers to invalidate hundreds of adverse NLRB decisions and to freeze the Board from deciding current cases. So far over 80 comp ...

Made Me LaughApr 06, 2010
Since my MT'ing salary has taken such a hit these days, I had to laugh the other day when I was watching "Intervention."  The interventionist stated that people were lined up outside of drug rehab clinics offering to sell clean urine samples to the addicts. They were getting $25 per sample.  I quickly realized that I would be paid well based on production! lol  Of course I wouldn't seriously consider doing this, but it made me laugh. Made In ChinaJun 11, 2012
Went in to the store to browse and saw the cutest 4th of July apron. It was royal blue and had "Made in the U.S.A" in a cute print on the front. I thought how cute would that look on the cook who is barbequeing on the 4th?!Yep,you guessed it. The tag said, "Made in China."I was so ticked! MOST of the inventory in US stores is foreign made. Even the Christmas stuff. I am very aware and try as much as possible to "BUY AMERICAN". Since that was going to be an impulse buy, of course I did not p ...

How Laws Are Made.Jul 30, 2013
Another poster and I were talking a couple of threads down about how the country needs to educate themselves about how congress works (or should work, I guess I should say).  I found some sites if anyone's interested - some are quite lengthy (I've only made it to Part IV on the first one), but I thought this would be a good place to start the conversation.  The first two are from 2007 and 2003 respectively, but I couldn't find anything more recent (if anyone finds someth ...

toward the end is strictly out of consideration for the board's high standards of behavior. Insert the appropriate vulgarity as desired.   The American Medical Association has weighed in on Obama's new health care package. Minored in political science, so you can believe this:  Fascism is NOT and never has been a conservative philosophy.  It is a philosophy from which LIBERALISM is directly descended.
