APPOINTMENT MONDAY

Posted: Jan 6, 2012

Monday I go to the hand specialist for de Quervain's tenosynovitis I have had now for two months.   So far all conservative measures have failed.   I had to make the appointment for after January 1, due to a change in insurance for me.   I am dreading the cortisone injection, if he decides to go that way.   I have heard horror stories about wrist injections.    WISH ME LUCK.   I am not proud of being afraid, but I can't help it!   Any words of encouragement?   Please!

I know that it is ridiculous, but my blood pressure is a good 20 pts higher systolic at the beginning of a doctor's appointment than at the end, every time. They always seem to think that my blood pressure is high normal, but it really isn't. They just make me nervous. At any rate, whatever treatment modality that the doctor chooses, I am sure that the benefits outweigh the risks. Otherwise, he would not suggest it. Good luck!

It will be over soon! - sm

These things always seem to be a much smaller deal than we make them out to be. At least you're doing something about it, and hopefully you'll get the relief you're looking for. Wish I could give you some been-there-done-that encouragement, but I'm sure you will get through it just fine! Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I got a cortisone injection about 11 years ago. I won't lie to you -- it hurt to get the injection, and my hand and wrist throbbed for about 2 days afterward.

I was then sent to occupational therapy for 6 weeks (2 times a week) of heated ultrasound-type treatments to the area at the base of my thumb. Between the cortisone injection and the heat treatments, I received complete relief, and I haven't had any trouble with it since.

Don't be afraid of the cortisone injection. It hurts for a short time, but it can bring a world of relief. I hope your result is as good as mine. :) Good luck!

Thanks to everyone - Christine

I appreciate your replies and encouragement. I never knew this condition could cause this type of pain. Typing for me is so much easier than writing. Last month writing checks to pay bills was nearly impossible. I am going to ask the doctor to numb the area to begin with, and I know the steroid is mixed with lidocaine as well. Thanks again!

I hope all goes well for you. Let us know. - nm - PJ

I have had several injections into my foot for plantar fasciitis and a heel spur. My doc sprays a topical numbing agent on first, then injects novicane as he is going in with the needle, when he gets to the actual area he pops on a new vial and injects the actual cortisone. I won't say it doesn't hurt but it is over in less than a minute. When my foot gets so bad I can hardly walk the injection and the benefits are worth the few seconds of pain from the injection. Relax, you will do fine!!!

I will let you all know. - Christine

I had a bout of CMC joint arthritis that just came out of nowhere and hit me like a ton of bricks. It hurt like **** everytime I moved my hand. Needless to say, I couldn't work. I got an injection, and within a couple days I was as good as new. While I still feel it ever so slightly every now and then, it has never caused me any real trouble since the injection, which was almost a year ago. The injection hurt a bit, but it was only for a few seconds. It was well worth it to be over the ongoing pain. I hope if you get an injection it helps you as much as it did me. Good luck!

Canceling An Appointment ...Aug 09, 2016
I'd set up an appointment with a lawyer re a minor legal matter, but have since heard some negative things about him and want to cancel. Would appreciate any advice on how to politely cancel the appointment by email.  Just can't think what to write without having to give a definite reason for the cancellation.     ...

Well, I've Made An Appointment With A Therapist.Jun 22, 2010
Which is HUGE for me!  I'm one of these people that puts on a happy face and let's no one in on what's really going on in my personal life.  Every time I have made an appointment like this, I end up canceling it.  So we'll see.  After I posted below and got such encouraging responses and I realized that I had my employee assistance program available to me through the hospital I work for which pays for the first five visits or so of counseling or whatever. ...

I Need To Make An Appointment To Get Thyroid CheckedFeb 20, 2013
I already posted this in response to someone else's post.  I don't have insurance, but the dentist at the dental school I went to affirmed I have thyroid nodules (really, I have more than one?)  I'm afraid to get this checked out, I don't have insurance, how am I going to afford Synthroid? It's 49 dollars for the office visit + cost of tests.  What if they want to do a biopsy?  I need tires, blah, blah, blah, dental work, blah, blah, blah....   ...

Please Pray For Me MondayJul 22, 2016
Please pray for me on Monday. I have my right eye done at 10 a.m. I appreciate your prayers. They sure help me a lot. Please pray I don't have the horrible pain like I did with the other eye or that at least I can bear it better than I did with first eye. I have to wonder how I am supposed to see now that both eyes are operated on and no glasses yet. I can hardly see the TV clearly. Makes you feel very helpless, especially in the kitchen getting your own meals, etc. I am cooking up food ...

No Time Out Over Recess Appointment Battle Of NLRB's AuthorityMar 16, 2013
Employers and Acting National Labor Relations Board General Counsel Lafe Solomon continue to spar over the NLRB’s authority in the wake of the D.C. Circuit’s 2013 Noel Canning decision invalidating President Obama’s recess appointments of three NLRB Members. Attacks on the Board’s authority have morphed into an all-out offensive by employers to invalidate hundreds of adverse NLRB decisions and to freeze the Board from deciding current cases. So far over 80 comp ...

Poor Mitt.  He was born with a silver waffle iron in his mouth.  Proceed with caution.  Readers are at risk for severe whiplash trying to keep up with the contradictions in this piece.  It really gets interesting when he starts explaining why Obama's penalty is a tax and his tax (what he has called it on numerous past occasions when promoting his own plan) is a penalty.  Though he can't even take a stand on his own positions, he do ...

Military Chaplins (stated Sunday Wasn't Monday Below) Oct 06, 2013
Guess Hagel decided it wasn't worth the effort to try to fight the House vote. Still, they go back TOMORROW (Monday), not TODAY (Sunday), but I don't know if the order to arrest them if they provide services still qualifies. Don't see anythihng in the news that states they were allowed to do it today. ____________________________ Just a few short days ago, Military contracted priests were emphatically told that they would be arrested if they attempted to conduct servic ...
