Dental Insurance?

Posted: Jul 27, 2015

Can anyone recommend a good dental plan?  I think I need two root canals and have about zero money for it.  One infection I've had for almost 2 years.

Something you really need to look at - is dental clinics through SM

local technical colleges or medical school. Any free community health clinics in your area?

The best thing we found for my husband who had 2 teeth pulled which had lost old fillings and had recurrent infections, was a dental program called "blank" I better google it and give you hints, I dont want this post deleted and me banned for referring you to another site.

The program is out of Florida, but they have participating dentists all over the country. It's completely free, you get either a filling, a cleaning, or an extraction at a visit.

If you google the exact phrase "free dental events" the first listing should be the one we used out of Port Richey, Florida. They are the organization who sponsors it and dentists from all over the country participate.

I hope this helps. We were EXTREMELY grateful to the providers we saw.

I have had dental insurance most of my working life, but none for the past 8 years. I found a great dentist who lets me make payments, plus I seriously think when a dentist knows you do not have insurance, they don't charge as much. I have to have a root canal and my dentist sent me to a microendo guy, who is charging 1100 for the root canal-I know, ridiculous. It is done in 2 phases, 4 weeks apart and I have to have the 500 up front before he will start. He wouldn't take payments which is ridiculous. I give my debit number to my regular dentist. Oh, and when you get a root canal, you will need to get a cap on it since it will be a dead tooth and will eventually crumble!! OMG-so that is like over 2,000 for one tooth!! Good Luck!

Thank you both for the info (sm) - Linda

We have a free dental clinic locally, but I think mine would require an oral surgeon. I will try antibiotics again. I lost a tooth that the cap fell off and it crumbled, leaving just a tiny fang but the cavity never healed closed and it got infected. The costs are just impossible, but I'll keep checking and in the meantime try antibiotics again. Improved the first time but didn't cure.
Thanks again!

through AAA when I was self employed. I don't know if all states carry it, and you have to be a AAA member. I paid about $40 a month. There may be a waiting period for major work, and I think mine only covered up to $1500. BC/BS in my state also carries a dental plan and you don't have to have their health insurance to get it. I think Humana also has a dental plan.

Liberals Push Dental Coverage For All, Health Insurance For Illegals--And MoreJan 20, 2015
At a time when Republicans are trying to roll back certain provisions of the Affordable Care Act (if not the entire law), a liberal advocacy group is looking ahead to the next round of taxpayer-subsidized health care "reform." Families USA says the ACA was a good start, but it has now outlined 19 specific proposals "to improve health care for everyone in our nation." The plan, called Health Reform 2.0, would "improve coverage and extend care." That means making dental coverage universall ...

Update On Dental ProblemAug 17, 2010
Well, I got through the whole bone graft procedure better than I thought I would thanks to an excellent dentist who made my whole face numb.  I didn't feel a thing.  It also helped that I thought of people less fortunate than myself who have to endure much worse on a daily basis.  If anyone ever has to deal with this I wish you luck and, take it from me, it is almost always worse in your own mind that it actually is in reality. ...

In Need Of Dental Work But Can't Afford ItOct 05, 2011

Opinions About Dental PracticeMar 12, 2013
Hello...A while ago I thought someone had started a thread about going to the dentist.  I was going to add on to it but couldn't find it, so I will start a new topic. My (former) dentist sends reminder letters to come in for your routine exam and cleaning, as many dentists do.  I really like him and I think he does a really good job, but the wording of the letters always puts me off, it's something like, "you worked hard for your benefits, come in and use your insurance befor ...

Car InsuranceApr 21, 2010
Anyone else out there with a son who is under 25 that has been added to your car insurance?  After dealing with our car insurance when our son got his driver's license, I was so aggravated that it cost more "because he is a boy".  I am sorry, but I just don't buy that line.  It is discrimination, plain and simple.  I know they can quote "facts" that boys have more accidents than girls, but that is simply lumping all boys together.  My son waited until he was 19 ...

My Argument With My InsuranceNov 11, 2009
The other day, I got a bill for an ambulance.  I got charged the entire $700+ dollars.  Don't get me wrong - those paramedics were fantastic.  I was having severe chest pain and within seconds, they had an IV inserted, my BP checked, nitro sprayed into my mouth and 1 mg of morphine plus some atrophine in my IV and a nasal cannula. However, I'm being billed the entire amount because the ambulance company is "out of network.".  This will not do.  I dealt with in ...

So My Insurance Won't Change?Oct 05, 2013
This morning I attended a meeting at the hospital where I work regarding our 2014 benefits.  Yes, I have insurance through my employer, and yes, I am happy with it, but imagine my surprise when I found out how much the cost of my coverage will increase for 2014 because we are self insured and our hospital was levied a fee of 1,000,000 dollars (yup, one million dollars) for fiscal 2014 to help fund the exchanges.  Of course, guess who pays that?  Yes, all of employees.  so tha ...

An MT Insurance Story...Jan 22, 2014
I had insurance through my MT job but never filed a claim as I am relatively healthy and never met the deductible.  I didn't have a colonoscopy until I was 55 or a mammogram until I was 56, my own fault, but my income had taken a nosedive and preventative care was the least of my worries.  I was just lucky that both turned out OK.  I lost my insurance when I was diagnosed with RA and couldn't maintain full time status or production, pretty close though.  Because of ...

No Health Insurance? Read This!Jan 12, 2012
For the past year and a half I have been sans health insurance.  Fortunately, I only have a couple of prescriptions that I take on an intermittent basis, and even those are generics.  Walgreen's has a "Savings Club" for those without insurance.  Normally enrollment costs $15 for a year, but this month only they have reduced it to $5 so I signed up. The club saved me $2 on today's Rx (meaning that the net enrollment cost for me was $3), and ...
