An MT insurance story...

Posted: Jan 22, 2014

I had insurance through my MT job but never filed a claim as I am relatively healthy and never met the deductible.  I didn't have a colonoscopy until I was 55 or a mammogram until I was 56, my own fault, but my income had taken a nosedive and preventative care was the least of my worries.  I was just lucky that both turned out OK.  I lost my insurance when I was diagnosed with RA and couldn't maintain full time status or production, pretty close though.  Because of my diagnosis I could not get private insurance no matter the cost.  Fast forward to now, as of this month I have insurance.  Preventative care is included at no extra fee, colonoscopy, Pap, mammogram, physical and lab every two years.  Whoo hoo!

It is. It is also for people who are 65 or over. - nm

people over 65 could get it and even those under 65 and collecting partial disability or SS. What is confusing to me is now this relates to the post when I'm assuming the OP was referring to Obamacare. Medicare was available to you and others prior to Obamacare. Maybe I'm not seeing the big picture. If so, I apologize.

Medicare is for ALL Americans who have reached 65...sm - VTMT

whether still working or not. Medicare is for the poor, including the working poor, for people under 65. You pay into Medicare and Social Security via payroll taxes all your working life.

Thank you. - sm

I guess I'm not as dumb as I thought. I did know all of this. I was just thinking there was some change or something better with Obamacare. Again, thank you for answering.

Medicare versus Medicaid - Irene

Medicare healthcare coverage begins at age 65. Everyone pays into Medicare if they work for a paycheck. However, if you have never worked and received a paycheck, it is still available to you. There is money always coming into the program from those who are working and some people, although they may pay in for 40-50 years, never collect because they do not live to age 65.

Medicaid is fully government funded (paid for by those same people who earn a paycheck and pay taxes). Eligibility income has gone up to about $30,000 for a family of 4, which means that more people are now eligible for Medicaid. Again, those receiving it may or may not have ever paid any taxes which would help to support the program.

There is quite a bit of difference between the two. And, unfortunately, the majority of people signing up for Obamacare are signing up for Medicaid - which has to mean higher taxes to pay for it - a program which was supposed to be self-sustained.
Thank you for this clearer explanation. - sm

My feeling is that Obamacare is only good for a chosen few, those who directly benefit from it, but not for the majority of Americans. The working young and middle-aged among us will be footing the bill for this multitrillion dollar debacle for years and years to come unless it is repealed. John McCain apparently has a repeal petition on his website.

ANOTHER MAN STORYApr 06, 2011
I think the radiation in the air is infecting our men.  MY DH left himself logged onto facebook and this morning when I came in to work (our computers are both in the office) I noticed the light on, clicked the mouse to shut it down and noticed his facebook.  Curiosity got the better of me and I was just looking around at his wall posts, all innocent silly talk with old friends and co workers.  THEN I decided to read his messages... He's having this ongoing dialogue with an ...

Car InsuranceApr 21, 2010
Anyone else out there with a son who is under 25 that has been added to your car insurance?  After dealing with our car insurance when our son got his driver's license, I was so aggravated that it cost more "because he is a boy".  I am sorry, but I just don't buy that line.  It is discrimination, plain and simple.  I know they can quote "facts" that boys have more accidents than girls, but that is simply lumping all boys together.  My son waited until he was 19 ...

Horrible Story Out Of CA....Oct 28, 2009
I just had to post this because it is an outrage really.  Most of you probably have seen this on the news, but I just stumbled upon it on my phone while I was waiting for my kid's doctor today.  A 15yo GANG raped by a group of people outside of a high school dance in Richmond, CA while up to 20 people just watched and many from the group participated in the beating and rape of this little girl.  THEY JUST STOOD THERE?  I mean are these children that we are raising?& ...

I am posting this story so die-hard Obama and democrat haters can refresh their minds.  This was from back when Bush was in office and the public was sick of the republican ways.  This is only a reminder to the ones who are blaming the democrats for everything and Obama.  There are many people who are not happy with either party and rightly so.  It is nothing but games on both sides.  But for those who seem to think things were running so well before Obama and the democr ...

The Rest Of The StoryOct 02, 2011
I am the mom whose son came home from Afghanistan 2 weeks ago.  We ended up not going, and I made sure my husband knew how unhappy I was at missing the chance - and so did the rest of the family!  Fast forward to last Thursday and I got a text from my son saying he would be HOME on Saturday about 2 p.m. to pick up his car and clothes he had left at his brother's house.  Totally jumped at the chance to be the one to pick him up from the airport so I was buzzing around for ...

A True Story...Jul 18, 2012
In the early 70s, I was a new wife and mother without a lot of money, living in a small mid-western town of 1200.  One day a well-meaning friend called me and said,"The Government is giving away free cheese at the Auditorium. You should go stand in line and get some." I said to her, "Why should I go stand in line for the free cheese?  I don't want a 5 lb. brick of cheese." She replied, "Everyone is doing it."  So, I went and stood in line for the free cheese.  But, reall ...

Is Anyone Following The Story Of The Father WhoJun 29, 2014
At first I thought it was an unimaginable tragedy but as evidence comes out that the father searched computer on deaths of children left in hot cars it looks like he is guilty of murder.  He took the child to breakfast not very far from his work so it is hard to think he could forget him once he arrived at work.
